I've noticed the youtubers I enjoy watching the most happen to be from some nondescript town just surrounded by the average person and their family. I think that helps you stay grounded. I can't tell you how many people I have naturally stopped watching once they have moved to LA

I know what you mean about LA. But I still watch "some" of the bigger ones. I have lost my appetite for people who have gotten too big for their britches, they are reviewing ALL high end, too braggy about PR, and they are just not relatable for me. I can't stand the Chanel, LV, unboxings, and the my million dollar face crap and a basic feeling that they just sit and spend money on expensive things and I just roll my eyes and unsubscribe.

Same here! Not sure which one was first, but i know it was both in the same day and they both became and stayed my two out of three favorite youtubers! It was deffinitely before i moved to UK so more than 5 years ago. Wow!
I didn't hear of Emily until months later. I watch her channel more now but mostly because I was excited about her new baby. I don't subscribe to her channel, though. She is okay but not one of my go-to gurus.

I can't remember how I found you but it was several years ago. I'm 55 and watch a few make up ladies in their forties and fifties but you're the only youngster (same age as my daughter) that I am still subscribed to. You are just so genuine x

Idea regarding your decluttering videos.
"Interview" (even if just a paper q&a to let them stay anonymous) the people you passed things onto that didn't work for you. Did that item work better on their skin?
If so, it clearly went to a better home, if they didn't enjoy it either, it may just not be a good item.
Not every item is well made, but you never know until someone buys & tries it. And like you say, some items work better on this or that skin type.

I think that is the first one I saw but it was a couple of years old. You were still teaching. I had never heard of that brand because I had been away from makeup for a while.
I found you on TH-cam because I knew OF you in high school. We didn't know each other personally because it's a huge school. However, I was in theater and attended a lot of school musicals, so I knew who you were. About 3 or 4 years after I graduated (I was in the grade below you) someone sent me a link saying you were starting up a TH-cam channel, so I watched your very first video and subbed because I wanted to support you in your journey. Little did I know how big this channel would get! Honestly, with how many TH-camrs I follow, I forgot all about this channel until about 2 years ago. I started watching, wondering who this relatable girl I had subbed to was.... then it clicked! I'm so so happy for you, Jess. I can say I'm genuinely a fan!

I honestly can’t remember how I found you and it’s driving me nuts. I know it was at the end of 2017 because that’s when I decided I needed to learn how to do makeup “like an adult.” I remember I first found Jen Luvs Reviews, then Sarah Therese (whom I no longer watch or subscribe to) and then I got into your channel. But I can’t remember what video. I know I stayed because we both have dry skin, naturally curly hair, and embrace our more “boring side” as neutral fans haha. I also appreciate that you haven’t lost touch with your roots as a drugstore review channel for people who love beauty but don’t have a TH-camr’s budget.
First half of what you said is exactly how i found jess as well. Feom sarah therese which i didnt really watch i just got recommend here on yt and in the video she mentioned jess and i searched for her and here i am.

Random Me I just found her personality and beliefs disagreeable so I lost interest in her channel.
Same timeframe and reason for me to start. I think it was specifically the intriguing premise of using a BB cream instead of foundation (foundation was terrifying at the time... I actually JUST bought my first bottle this week!), so I needed a guru to tell me what direction to head in. I actually found Emily Noel when Jessica mentioned her. Ha! They are the only two I bother with in the beauty world. I truly look forward to all the content here, because I love the elegant simplicity of Jessica’s brown eyeshadows, and I can always pick her shade recommendations right off the shelf and they work beautifully for me!
I’ve been on the hinge of unsubscribing from Sarah. Some of her things I enjoy but so much of it is frustrating. But she’s just so damn aesthetic.

I was suggested a video of yours for “cheap dupes” after searching for a specific dupe (for god only knows what now 😂) about 3 years ago. It took me a little while to subscribe, but after your videos kept being suggested, and I kept watching, I subscribed and have been a faithful follower ever since. Even as someone who genuinely just enjoys you are a person and your content, there are still some videos that I just don’t click on bc they don’t fully appeal to my interests, but I fully support your pursuing your passion projects! TH-cam is meant to be fun, and entertaining, and you definitely bring that to the community ❤️

I got sooo happy with your videos because you were one of the only few people who didn’t act like they LOVED or needed every single product, your reviews are so realistic and honest and not overly romanticised , I know when you love a product it’s a damn good product, and you filter out all the mediocre products so you save me heaps of money haha

I love decluttering videos because sometimes (a lot of the times), I also have all those products. But maybe out of guilt I refuse to get rid of them. So when I watch decluttering videos where someone like you is speaking out loud as to why you’re choosing this product over the other products, it brings to the forefront something I may have already thought about that product. It makes it easier for me to get rid of it knowing that I’m not the only one that thought about it that way. As to why one watches engagement videos: at least for me, it’s the idea that love can happen. That a beautiful story can exist for everyone out there. It’s a romantic side of my emotional psyche, and that’s why I enjoy watching engagement videos because not all relationships are failures. I don’t know how else to describe it. But seeing happiness out there in the world, can remind us all that it does exist. It just takes time for some 💕
I found you from a “whats in my purse” video from your sitting on the floor of your parents house days. Still love you and watch you every week to this day. I can remember when you announced your pregnancy and i told my fiancé about it as if a friend had called and told me they were expecting 😂 Your personality is just so endearing and I love seeing you and your family thrive. I was almost 51 years old and had very little experience with makeup. I started buying ELF because it was affordable. My daughter suggested I watch TH-cam and learn some tips. I looked up makeup tutorials and saw a video for a young girl doing a makeup video where she was showing her collection....it was you! I was immediately drawn to you because you remind me so much of my daughter. Same dark hair and fair skin tone, almost the same age, she was living at home still, attending college to be a teacher. She is now married with 3 little boys, is a presenter for an online makeup line and enjoys make up the way you do. You were the very first channel I watched for makeup. From you, I learned about Emily Noel. Love your channel and Tyler’s also.

Please never stop doing declutter videos! Yours, in particular, are so inspiring for me and have helped me declutter my own makeup. It can be hard to part with things for various reasons and when you explain exactly why you are getting rid of something you still like/love/think is awesome, it really helps me turn around and do the same.

I like the declutters because it’s lots of mini reviews that follow up the first review. We know reviewers get product and it’s your job. The other side of this is your reviews and declutters help the rest of us not buy stuff we don’t need or won’t like. That saves so much more waste! I started watching random beauty videos 4 or 5 years ago while getting back into wearing makeup. For the longest time I couldn’t keep you and K Lights apart. Both young and happy with dark hair! 🤣 In the long run I kept watching you (and Emily) even though I’m twice your age and blonde. Thanks!

I think I found you because of your declutter series. I enjoy your realistic perspective. Very grounded.
I can't remember when or why I started watching your channel. It'd be nearly a year. I love the way you talk, your voice and your mannerisms. When you review products, I like how you put the price up on the screen. I have watched almost all of your old videos, and there's a lot! Please don't ever stop.
I find a similar vibe among the TH-cam channels I consistently watch. They all share a sense of genuineness and have a high comfort level with talking to the camera. Their videos feel more like hanging out with someone I know, rather than watching a performance. I will watch these creators even when they do a video "off brand" or outside my realm of interest. For example, my child is now a 23 year old. I will not be going to Disney with a toddler. However, I watched Jessica's video about this subject and I enjoyed it. TH-camrs like Jessica are good at what they do, which is provide me with a welcome respite from my daily life. I mostly watch videos to relax. I have enough problems irl; I don't want drama and conflict in my entertainment.

You are the TH-camr that really got me into TH-cam. After finding your Wander Beauty brand review, I started watching more of your videos and then exploring a few more channels (including Tyler’s!). I love that your looks are something for “most” people. Makeup artists are fun to watch but your looks and product reviews are exactly what I love. Keep being the fun, relatable, awesome person you are!
I found you around five years ago when I started to follow a bunch of beauty channels and your video popped up as a recommendation. From those early subscriptions I still watch you and Taylor. You are both such beautiful positive people inside and out. You've stayed who you are through the years and I can trust your reviews as there is not a smidgen of fakeness to them.
I found you via my TH-cam recommended videos one night years ago... And I remember watching and loving your videos, because it felt to me like the makeup videos I was seeing was so out there! People using 50 products for complicated looks. And I remember thinking... "Aaah a normal person like me doing normal makeup. How refreshing" and then I stuck round cause your personality is awesome

It's been a few years now about 5. I found you through Jen Luv's reviews. At the time you were both still teachers, and had a passion for makeup. Jen was so honest I knew her recommendations would be good. I really enjoyed the ELF videos, and I always LOVE the declutters. 💖 You always explain your motivation behind decluttering and what happens to what gets decluttered. If negative people aren't getting that, it's on them for not paying attention. Subscription boxes were so huge in past years. Felt like Christmas all the time, but less people do them now which is fine. Looking back at your engagement video now is actually so sweet.

To me, part of the fun of watching is to find someone doing the videos that is like able and down to earth. You are definitely that!

Subscriber story time!
I’m 25 now, but back in 2013 I was just shy of 18 and was lost in undiagnosed and untreated depression. I didn’t know why I felt the way I did and I didn’t know if feeling empty and reclusive was just a fact of young adult life.
I’d be holed up in my childhood bedroom counting the months til graduation, with your videos at your parents’ house on fullscreen keeping me company through it all. I laughed at your owl pillow Sequion (“See-KWON”), diligently noted your take on new e.l.f. products, related to your loves of musical theater/Harry Potter/Disney, and for 5 minutes I didn’t have to think about the lunches I’d been spending alone in the school bathroom each week. So many parts of my life just felt broken, but your channel had so much of the warmth I needed then.
Seven tough years later I’m medicated, several years into therapy, in a thriving relationship full of REALLY dumb jokes and non-stop cooking, and grinding away at my degree (in Psychology). No matter how insidious my depression tries to be, that little glimpse of joy your channel instilled in me has been there every step of the way.
I have so much love for the parts of your passion you choose to share with your subscribers, and I have so much love for the integrity you have in being yourself after this many years on this platform. Watching you evolve into each new stage of life and still stay true to yourself has been super reassuring. Thank you, Jess 💕
I found you the summer of 2014. I had actually just finished my first year of teaching. I was going through a lot trying to find what was going on with me health wise (I ended up being diagnosed with Lupus) and I literally spent that whole summer in bed watching beauty videos. It was my first time diving into that world and you were one of the first people I started watching.
I discovered beauty youtube in 2013/14, and I honestly have no idea who I found first. You were likely in my recommended videos, among Jaclyn Hill, Marlena Stell, Kathleen Lights, Nicole Guerriero , etc.; now, you are one of the few beauty channels I still watch! Aw this was cute! I think I discovered you on Reddit, someone posted one of your declutters and I thought it was so healthy and fun to watch! I collect dolls, and every year (or every few months depending on how many new dolls have come out lol) I have to go through and figure out which dolls I love and want to keep, and which ones I've moved away from and need to sell or give away and your videos remind me to keep doing that! Clutter can kill a hobby imo and your declutters are really inspiring! It's honestly so cathartic to declutter too, like you're picking diamonds out of a massive pile of coal and can finally enjoy the things you love.

I found you December of 2014. I remember when my mom was in the hospital after her heart attack I'd need to leave a youtube video playing to get to sleep. I remember just hearing the guitar strum intro (pre-clapping intro) was something that made me feel safe, like everything was going to be ok.
