    Won't be long & we can plow a round and wait for rain while we charge our tractor batteries then repeat! Every farm will have an electrical generating wind turbine where your diesel pump used to be and every barn roof will have China solar panels. But sarcasm aside, really enjoy watching the old iron of my day working a farm as I remember it. Thanks for sharing your videos.

      When I start my dream farm I plan on putting solar panels on the machine shed so I would not have to run conduit to the shed. Plus I'll also use the power reserves to do trickle charges on the batteries once per month.

    The Science of Plowing is almost a lost art, most of the younger kids on farms haven't even seen a plow, let along use one. Keep farming the way you want as it seems to be working for you. We farm the old school way along with you, (Plowing, Disking, Roller harrowing, Planting with a planter that's 50 years old and cultivating. Still pick ear-corn the livestock. Have you had a chance to look over the Super snoot I gave you at the Fair?

    Wow, that is hard. You have the exact opposite problem we have in the St. Lawrence Valley. Been very wet and cool most of the season. Probably half a dozen fields my boss couldn't get on this year. The T sounds good yanking the plows through the tough spots though. Doing a very good job.

    Something to try would be tillage radishes and other cover crops planted with a Deere notill drill. Would probably help that field out by breaking up the clay and starting to add organic matter into it.

    Awesome video sir, nothing sounds like the 310 turbocharged engine with the straight pipe. My 1750 has a unique sound to but the 1955 just makes me smile while running it. I recently bought a White 4-150 with 3319 hours on it. Everything works even the air conditioning. But I’m needing a door for it, if you know where I can get one I would really appreciate the help

    Mulboards and disks dont do you any favors for getting rid of compaction thats for sure . Chisel plow or field cultivator naturally dig into the soil at least but they do struggle to work into hard soils too. Just have to see what the future gives you for conditions. I have been running a chisel and subsoiler over land for 45 years and can still find dead furrows and old end rows where the plows worked it the same away all the time . Thanks for sharing the video its nice to see vintage equipment working still

    • @Oliver66FarmBoy
      @Oliver66FarmBoy  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve had an 11 shank chisel plow with spikes just skim the ground and rake trash in this field. If it’s to hard to plow it’s to hard to chisel.

  • @Ham68229
    @Ham68229 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Ethan, it may sound silly but, you might want to keep an eye out for a "one way" disc plow. Isn't much that can stop them from doing their job. Plus, look into adding some "gypsum" into the soil, that helps break up the clumps, softens it up, you just have to work that stuff in and pray for rain. Have you considered just using a ripper first then the moldboard plow? I mean, that is what a ripper is designed for actually. Great video as always, cheers :)

    The hydraulic reset charged to maximum? You will be surprised if those bottom aren’t exactly flat, those points will pull like a stuck hog in four foot of shit. It really doesn’t take much movement on those bottom to do that and once it starts it hard to stop. I have had to go over the recommended charge in conditions like that. I was raised on that exact plow. One of the problems of the reset. In my opinion.

      @@Oliver66FarmBoy I slept a few nights since I was young. I just don’t remember where we set it. But in hard dry clay hills we would “super charge it” as we liked to say. But in normal conditions we backed it down. But I feel your pain as it was the most frustrating thing. The other outfit was a 1800 with a trip bottom 4 bottom and no problems while the reset plow struggled right behind each other. So we knew it was the plow not the conditions. I had a love hate relationship with that plow. Loved it in rocky field and I thought the extra weight was great. But then….
