How To: Make A Reed

  • Making reeds is an artform in and of itself for some of our woodwind players. In real-time, this process takes anywhere from 3 days to a week. And even then, you still might need another couple of weeks to get a playable reed! This timelapse is courtesy of our Bassoon Fellow, Jordy Meulenbroeks.

    Ask a double reed player, perhaps one in ten reeds is actually really good. Reed making is a frustrating process! 🤪

      Detective Home Lifetime for couple of hours of playing. They pass away before the concert, not even survive from the rehearsals :(

      @@JonathanLuvMusicWinds have a hard life musically. They spend more time making reeds than practicing. I have no idea how they still manage to pull everything off; it is a very time consuming process to keep on making mg reeds

    Thanks, but I came for sax reeds. Should've clicked off after seeing orchestra. Still good to know though
