  • Hello oboists and oboe fans! Thank you for joining me in a very ambitious oboe reed making video. I hope you grab a blank yourself and scrape along with me!
    Sorry for some things that went wrong along the way. I scraped another reed so you could see a more in depth view of how I actually scrape from my pov.
    I put out an Instagram poll and 186 people voted for real time scraping compared to 83 who wanted me to fast-forward through my scraping. I did opt to leave it in real time!
    I hope you enjoy this video and good luck on your oboe journey!!
    The first track I'm using while I'm talking is generously provided by Scott Kramer. You can hear more of his music here: / scott-kramer-4

    Hi Ron, I recently started watching your content. As an oboe player that is always struggling with the finishing touches of a reed is always eager to see someone’s else’s process. Your explanation and dedication to educate what your process is to us is wonderful. Hopefully you’ll consider making a video on this.
    Thank you .

    Do you have a video or something online somewhere of what you track in your reed journal? I’d be really interested in seeing how you do yours.
    Thanks for making great content!!

    i was trying to make a flute out of some bamboo i found and figured i would need a reed despite not knowing what that was and after watching this video i don't think ill be making a flute... like damn didn't expect it to be so complicated

      How do you mean? A flute doesn't use a reed as far as i know?

    Hello Ron, i´m the guy who sent you the article about jazz oboe playing, what do you think about reedmaking machines (profilers) do they work as well as they work with european reeds?

    • @oboeari
      @oboeari  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question! I have a profiling machine and I think it works well. I want to have a custom template though because right now it's not doing exactly what I want. As far as how effective they are compared to European reeds, I just don't know.

      Here is a question for you, I have seen advertisements ok synthetic reeds, especially for double cane reeds! I can’t image using them but, it shows the students to be more repetitive in their sound, so they don’t really sound like a duck one day and a Wooster the next🤣 Are they something that should even be considered? Have you ever thought to show a comparison video between your making a cane versus the synthetic reeds out there?
