For shadows the relight preset is pretty good in most cases usually requiring only some adjustments to exposure compensation or opacity..it's a good quick fix
Hi - the making tab is there to spread the tonal range. It allows you to manipulate each seperately. You can see that in action in the advanced tab histogram.

You perhaps should have ultimately defined a mask and completed the edit to better demonstrate the tool. Just an observation

I didn't get what the "Mask" tab does. I set the mask and what should I do with that?
