Hi Amy, ive been off plant tube for a few months as my mental health got awful and I started over purchasing plants so i had to avoid any content that would cause me to max out my credit card 😂 glad to be back watching now i am feeling better. I will say Dibleys is one of my faves, its a shame your plant arrived so messed up, i think personally it was a little too large for the plastic container. I will say the plug plants tend not to look all that because they are immature but they do size up and will eventually look like the plants advertised. I have a load of begonias and a few streptocarpus from them. Keeping begonia has most certainly been a learning curve.
I cut a strand off of my goebelii after importing because it was looking dehydrated and it just didn't seem like it was acclimating like the rest of the plant. I put the cutting in a Ziploc bag with just some water in it, no substrate of any kind, and placed it right under a grow light for a few weeks. Now maybe a month or so later it's definitely perked up and the growth at the tips has activated. Still no roots but I felt confident enough to take it out of the bag and continue trying to get it to root in moss. Fingers crossed it'll make it, I've also heard these are notorious for being difficult to prop from cuttings 🤞 good luck with yours, loved the haul! 🌱
Oh that's really interesting! Thank you for sharing. I've currently got mine in a bit of a weird set up 🤣 it's in a plastic container that opens up, but has holes in the top too, I think I acquired it after purchasing some figs 🤣 so I've filled the tub with moss and closed it and then pushed the huperzia through the holes in the top, it seems to hold the humidty quite well because it's mostly enclosed. I'm keeping an eye but nothing is happening yet, but I also don't feel like they're deteriorating either, so fingers crossed 🤞 if nothing happens in a month then I'll try a ziplock bag. Good luck with yours also! Thanks for watching 🥰
I have grown begonias in water and had a great success, I'd try that and I've great success in perlite. I wouldn't give up and I'd try everything. From moss to vermiculite to water
I do like water propping, so that's where I've started! I do also quite like vermiculite as it stays a bit damper for longer than something like perlite! I'll definitely keep trying 🤞
Aya is a fast and hardy grower once it kicks off :) really stunning as well when it's sized up. It doesn't stay fully silver unless you keep it in low light, but that can also stunt it's growth - so if you're after something similar and more silver-y (without red/pink undertones), check out begonia Don Miller 😊
Thank you so much for this information and the recommendation! There are so many beautiful Begonias, I'm a lil scared to venture into that world 🤣 I've already been sucked in to Hoyas and Caudex plants this year, I don't think I could handle another genus taking over 👻
