I lived here in South Florida during Hurricane Andrew. My home was spared, but when we drove 45 miles down to Miami, it looked like a bomb had hit Homestead. Words do not express the scenario that unfolded down there. My prayers go out to everyone down here! I'm surprised they told us before the storm hits how strong it actually is. They never told us how strong Andrew was until after it hit. You can feel a change in the atmosphere right before it hits. Generally, pets will get very upset. If your pet comes to you and start crying, they know it's coming (the eye). My cat did that to me before the eye of Wilma passed through our neighborhood. Praying God will keep us all safe. 🙏🙏🙏 EDIT: When Wilma came, it passed through the West Coast and then came to the East Coast where I live. You know what? The storm never lost strength. We had cat. 3, 120 MPH winds pass through our neighborhood. If you live on the East Coast and around Orlando, don't think by the time it gets to you that it won't be as strong. That's what I thought and never prepared. I'm glad my house was spared, but I saw some homeless people hitchhiking and asking for help after that storm. Everyone please stay safe and take this seriously!

Another tid bit in your trivia column; there is a small town (pop. 10,000) in the Florida Panhandle named Milton. Milton should feel little, if any, effects from Milton.
Thankfully, it's near peak intensity now and is expected to weaken before landfall. Still, a Cat 3 is a Major Hurricane and would be catastrophic if the core crosses a heavily populated area like the Tampa Bay Area. I feel bad for the flock of birds in the eye. I've heard of that happening in other hurricanes. It's hard to believe the will survive the trip across the Gulf.
Glad to hear my storm, Michael, mentioned. If you went by most discussions of tropical weather you'd conclude Cat 5 Michael didn't happen.
