Y’all’s hospitality is second to none. I’m thoroughly impressed that y’all scour social media outlets and engage with consumers that have issues with their Old Town kayaks. And I’m completely blown away that y’all try to duplicate the gripes in order to properly fix any issues that arise. I’m looking forward to seeing what Old Town will do in the future. The Topwater and Predator PDL has really set a high benchmark for the industry.
One of my favourite memories from childhood was visiting the Old Town factory and shop in approx. 1987 and my dad buying an Old Town Discovery. If I remember the name of the place correctly, afterwards we went to Moosehead Lake and camped and canoed there for a week.
I'm not an Old Town owner, but have a new found respect for their history, values and products. It's obvious to see where Old Town have placed their priorities ... thanks so much for sharing this video. Companies like Old Town and the paddling community are the reason it's such a wonderful way to spend hard earned time. Cheers ...
Wow, what an honor to be invited to a tour of the Old Town Factory ! They have always been a marque manufacturer of quality products made by real craftsmen, especially the old wooden canoes. And the new roto-molded products they make today are still industry-standards.
Great video. I love these factory tours, gives us a chance to see where our products come from and what kind of company we're supporting. Love Old Town Canoe!
Absolutely loved this video. Total respect for keeping the family members as prized and respected employees. That in itself makes me want to be a future customer of theirs :)
I really enjoyed watching this video. I am from Maine and I wish the people who work at old town kayak keep up the great work. If it isn't made in Maine you don't need it. If it is made in Maine you will have it for life.
This was awesome. Thanks for sharing and thanks Old Town for letting us see a little inside the factory and thanks too for not moving production to China. Happy to still see products like these still made in the USA! My first kayak or canoe will def be a Old Town!
I'm lucky enough to goto Maine every now and then. I have family there. I work in a manufacturing plant. Would love to be able to tour the Old Town plant.
I bought my dad a factory second Royalex Tripper at the original old red factory in 1983. One of the old fellows who was taking a break from building a wood canoe helped me put it on top of my Honda Accord. Drove all the way from Old Town back to New Jersey and surprised my dad with a present. It broke my heart when I heart that the original factory had burned down. Some years later I bought a second one when I started to have children. It’s a shame they don’t make the Tripper any more. I’ve taken multiple two-week long trips in them. Still one of the best excursion canoes of all time. Indestructible.
@@MDLRFishing Yes indeed! Old Town products certainly retain value. I live near Seattle, and I know that if I brought my Tripper up to Alaska, I would get multiple offers for more than what I paid for it. The Tripper is the canoe that put Old Town at the top of the industry. I only have the smaller 17 1/2 foot version. The 20 foot version is the Holy Grail. Very few were sold, but I guarantee most of them are still in service. Royalex may be heavy, but it’s nuclear bomb proof!
Now that was a awesome Video! Great to see how excited and proud Ryan was about the history and quality of the Kayaks they are making there. A nice slice of Americana! Glad I went the Topwater route.
Cool tour, Mark. There's something special about those old canoes from the early 1900's that screams "craftsmanship" 👍. The company still having the names archived of who built each one is interesting also.
I saw you at iCAST. Great filming. Like your channel. I worked in rotomolding. I imagine the other quicker oven we couldn’t see at 06:30 simply has multiple arms that rotate into oven and can hold multiple molds on each arm. Full mold, go through oven, then through spray cooling, then back to operators for unbolting and kayak hull removal. I used to work on some of the largest ovens in the country. Johnson Outdoors certainly carries the best brands above and below the water....they even have ScubaPro!
Thank you for sharing ALL your adventures, knowledge, how to's, catch and cook, and this special tour video. Thank you for your service. I am enjoying and learning so much.
I must say that was an AWESOME treat, thank you Mark and Ryan Lily! To see some of the production facilities of the best canoe & kayak manufacturer out there was fantastic! I have to make a big decision for next season - do I get a new Predator PDL or TW120!!! I have a TW106 and Predator PDL now and just won a Ocean Prowler BG2 Love this Brand!!!
I’m very impressed with the caliber of great platforms Old Town has been putting out. Their willingness to listen to consumers and users alike will help to propel them to the top of the industry.
Wow! It was an experience for me watching this video. Really enjoyed & admire their pride in workmanship that goes with this company. God Bless the American Dream.
Lucky you, you've got to see those cool stuffs, I wish I can convince the colonel to buy me one, he always tell me " you'll never come home", so I told him to go get one as well. Big NO!1906 Canoe with Indian Head !!!!! Is to die for. Thanks Mark for sharing, 🚣🏻♀️🚣🏻♀️🚣🏻♀️
Thanks for my custome made flat bottomed 16' flat back plr 650 great with my mud motor 20 hp. Kohler for the swamps and shallows. Super light, strong , and thick transom
I must have got a 2nd or 3rd shift boat as mine has some pretty basic mistakes made during its build. Returning to dealer next weekend and going back to Hobie.
We had a 20ft Old Town cedar over oak that was a fantastic boat on the great lakes. People always hanging around looking at it when she was tied up. She was big for her length...you could of put a Lyman inside her with room to spare.
I am saving my brains out to buy the old town pdl 106..lol..i am a boat builder by trade and the first time I'm going to do if I am able to get one is put 3 costs of McGwires wash on the bottom and sides to keep it from paint fade and getting muddy. I pray for that day to come 🙏.

Awesome video, thank you. Now when will they have inventory again for 2021???????????????????????????????? Trying to decide if I want to test them in a river now or wait until it's warm again. I need to find some Smallmouth tomorrow but dam its been cold! Have you used a pdl in any river with current? Is it worth trying to see if I can pedal upstream far enough without having a heart attack and fish and float back?
I'm more curious as to why he kept rudely taking out his phone during the tour as if what was being said was not important. he was 100% not engaged in the conversation at all.
Great insider. Never really had Old Town on my radar, but if I ever decide to replace the Hobie, Old Town will definitely be on the short list. Was that Aliex with you on the tour?
I was like what Aliex???? LOL cool Iam a fan of both. Very nice to see Old Towns factory. I have a Topwater PDL 106 and I love my kayak she is perfect!
It was a pleasure having you up to Maine. I am always happy to show off our facility. We're all really proud about our heritage and what we do here!
