No, Karen, you are definitely not the only one. The character of Diane was so expertly written and so superbly interpreted by Shelley Long that I don't think there is any middle ground when it comes to how you feel about her. I absolutely loved her and the Sam/Diane dynamic. For me, her insufferable and exasperating qualities were tempered by her genuine affection and concern for a group of people with whom she had little in common and her desire to "belong." She rejected her mother's wealth to pursue success on her own merits. Her inflated ego in regard to her literary skills was on a par with Sam's for his sexual prowess. Their meeting of the minds and ids was rarely achieved, but I just so loved their valiant and confused efforts to try to make the other happy while not relinquishing their personal identity. I completely understand people who are not on "Team Diane" and so enjoy reading the comments of true fans who care.
