Crystal-clear explanation. I recently bought an eBike, but I haven’t used it until I understand the difference. Thank you.

Very helpful ..huge thanks as I have been nervous about using the throttle. Only have had bike a week .

I built one of each. My favorite is throttle only. I do pedal all the time, but like to control exactly how much assist. No matter how smart the pedal sensor is, it cannot see the conditions, but I can anticipate a hill or traffic. About half of my riding is unassisted. I’m currently building another with no display; just a throttle, controller, motor & battery.

Hi. First, thank you very much for the video, it is very helpful. I would like to ask what is the difference between bikes with 5 PAS modes and a single PAS mode. Is it a disadvantage to have a single PAS mode, especially for the battery efficiency? Appreciate for your answer. Thanks

For SOME seniors and people with disabilities, we would need pedal assist MORE than throttle. Thank U for explaining.. I care MORE about pedal assist than speed. I am disabled .

I agree!! Pedal assist is actually more fun then throttles!

I love to hear this. Why do you feel you need pedal assist more than throttle? It'd be great to make a video on this topic.

The most educational video about eBike... eBikes 101 by Sixthreezero. Thank you. I just ordered a starter one by Retrospec. It is similar to yours. My job is about 4 miles away and I am not all that fit for a regular bike. I figured this would be a good option to get back out there with some form of exercise, but gradually get my strength up with a little assist...That and if I had to put my car in the shop so I wont have to pump so hard everyday to get to work on time.

You’ll have to look at the specs, but all of our electric bikes and trikes have both! Check them out here: bit.ly/3nNhLUI

Going to add my vote for both, throttle and peddle assist.
For me, throttle is a must have, for standing starts, in awkward situations, like on a hill, at an intersection, or when you stop without opportunity to downshift.
It is also very handy, when you stop for a bite to eat, and don't want to peddle with a full stomach, or need to catch your breath, before continuing to peddle.
Also very easy to disconnect the throttle if need be, for local bike restrictions.
I would never purchase an E-Bike without throttle assist.
As for pedal assist, there are not many E_Bike bikes without it, so it's not usually an either/or, it is just a question if, you want to have the added benefit of throttle or not.
Also important to mention, that there are two kinds of throttle assist, one kind is like a motorcycle throttle, that has variable amount of boost, based on how far you twist the throttle.
The other kind is a simple switch, that turns on the motor, with a fixed level of assist. or none at all.
I have a budget E-Bike, that has the switch throttle, and cadence pedal assist.
I am very happy with that, but if cost was no object, I would have all three sensors, + throttle.

@@sixthreezero I have been riding road bikes, mountain bikes, and motorcycles for 40 years.
At 61, I have decided it’s time for an E-Bike, to keep me rolling on 2 wheels ;-)
I have had my Aventon Pace 500, for about 3 weeks now.
Have ridden it on streets, bike paths, gravel roads, and mountain bike, single track paths.
Have had no situations, where I wish there wasn’t a throttle.
But have had many, when it came in handy.
Especially when having to stop on a hill, and then start again.
Just push the throttle, until I can get both feet on the pedals working, is a major plus (especially at my age).
Best wishes for your continued success, and happy bike riding.

Throttle wears out the motor, chain and gears too much

Can you deactivate the unwanted, intrusive darned pedal-assist and ONLY use the throttle and/or can the PAS wires be physically disconnected? If not I ain't buying one. I - the rider-owner - want to decide when I need power not have "pensioners' pedelec" pedal-assist kicking in all the time. It also increases range if ebike-riders can activate power ONLY when we need it or want it using only the throttle with no interfering PAS / pedal assist!!
