Sir Alex is not only the greatest manager in football history, but also sporting history. He's won 38 trophies at man utd and 49 trophies in all (a record by miles), built and rebuilt teams multiple times, re-established United at the top of football after 20 years in the doldrums, he's unearthed great players (Ronaldo, Beckham, Giggs, Scholes, etc.) and had an aura about him nobody else does. Critics love to point out his "only" two European cups but conveniently leave out his other 47 trophies! Will never be anyone like him!

I truly miss the gaffer, Im 25 now and he is the only Manchester United manager i have ever known up until now. While other teams have been sacking managers manchester united is the only team that kept their manager even through tough times and it paid off in the end. When he announced his retirement it hurt me because it felt like a part of me was gone as a united fan. However we understand that he is getting old and he cant go on forever. I wish him a happy retirement.
How on earth did you come to that conclusion? It's a completely different game. I'm not disagreeing with your comment in any way but I'm certainly not agreeing. Alex Ferguson has a great tactically aware footballing brain.
Thomas Dauphan well your right I’m with you but they are point based leagues and there’s relegation .., if nfl teams had relegation they wouldn’t tank seasons because they know they get their share of money even if they finish last. Not disagreeing with you at all but I wish the nfl had a consequence for finishing in the bottom that would really devastate them financially like the premier league that’s all. That would make it even more awesome for the nfl
@Thomas Dauphan the difference between United under Ferguson and the other teams you mentioned is that United hadn't won the league for 20 years and he built them up to win the league and made them that dominant. They used youth players and only brought players because United earnt their own money from sustained success. Where as the other teams were brought buy billionaires and had all the money to just buy whoever they want to get their league titles. It was the only way teams could compete with Ferguson's united. That's how great Ferguson was at management. He built a monster team that would have had at least 17 titles in 21 years if not for the billionaires coming in to make average to poor teams able to be filled with world class players to compete and win some battles, but even then Ferguson's united still won the wars. Every time. Look what's happened to United since he left. Haven't come close. Such is the greatness of the man and his management.
Alex liked the comparison though, you can see the way he smiled Probably enjoyed his managerial career being thought of as a parallel to the success of a fellow leader who founded Apple, a billion dollar company

I have been a die hard chelsea fan my whole life who loves mourinho, and there is no way mourinho is a better manager than ferguson. Who ever says that doesn't know what they are talking about
I still liked the interview, to be honest. Yes, I agree that Charlie wasn't really expanding on what Sir Alex had to say but, in doing so, we got to learn other (and more) things about him. It was a unique interview in that way.
he made the game of football not just better for manchester united, but for the premiership, europe and the world. love him or hate him, you have have to accept that as a fact. his accomplishments are louder than any amount of criticism said about him.
great interview and talk despite Charlie's lack of understanding football. THe discussion was more about management and leadership. This applies to ALL sports, business, and pretty much everything...
I like that the interview was conducted by someone that probably doesn't know SAF as we do, it adds a very different dynamic to him. I would love to see him do an interview on a purely football basis as well.
Why would they get someone who knows nothing about football to talk for an hour with the greatest manager of all time? He doesn't have a clue. He's just reading questions off of some paper. Also it's really annoying when he just interrupts SAF and goes off on a tangent asking him about something different entirely.
He isn't the greatest manager of all time. He's not even the greatest manager in Britain. Bob Paisley won more trophies in a shorter period of time at Liverpool than Alex Ferguson won in a longer period of time at Manchester United. Not only did he win a record number of English league titles but Paisley is the only manager in history to win 3 European Cups with the same club.
Olisa Maduegbuna Best British Managers: 1) Brian Clough (genius on and off the fieldwho took a second division club to champions of europe) 2) SAF 3) Paisley
IIXRATEDIIHiTMAN How do you put SAF above Paisley? That's nuts. Paisley won much more in a shorter period of time. His Liverpool teams were the most successful in English football history and even today his trophy haul means despite the tide of success flowing towards Manchester since the early 90's, Liverpool have still recorded the most trophies in English history (41) compared to Manchester United's 39.
Olisa Maduegbuna Paisely had an amazing 8 or 9 years, winning 3 european cups which is unprecedented but he ultimately inherited an extremely strong side from Bill Shankly who was the one who brought liverpool up from second division obscurity to a top team but Bob got all the eventual glory. Paiselys relatively short-term success is unmatched though. SAF on the other side inherited the worst united side since the Munich air disaster and went on to win the league 13 times, created a youth philosophy which nurtured the most successful english talent of this generation without any doubt and he held that position for 26 years which I doubt will be emulated in our life times. For that reason alone he's above Paisley. Imagine the same manager dominating at Madrid or Bayern or United or Liverpool or any top club for 26 years... Its unthinkable! The only reason Clough is ahead was his genius off the field, he was just as special an individual away from football which Ferguson never seemed.
IIXRATEDIIHiTMAN Paisley only retired after just 9 years due to health reasons. But how long a manager stays is irrelevant. What is important is how much they win in their period in time at the helm. Wenger has been and I'm sure will continue to be at Arsenal for so long yet I doubt when the History books are written that Wenger will win more with Arsenal than Mourinho will do with Chelsea. Will people then say oh Wenger led for so long so should be seen as a greater manager? Length of tenure is irrelevant. Mourinho's greater success albeit in a shorter period of time at Chelsea will stand him in greater stead in the history books. And you ignore the fact that Paisley had been Shankly's right hand man throughout Shankly's era of laying the foundations. Paisley was responsible for player recruitment. He presided over both during his time as assistant and head manager, over some of the best transfers in English football. The real success came when Paisley turned 'Shankly's foundations' into real accomplishments. Yes Fergie took over a less successful United side but it wasn't like Fergie didn't have great predecessors before him - Mat Busby was the one who picked up the pieces from the Munich disaster and his youth policy (the Busby Babes) started success at Man United (winning a European cup) before SAF came. Yes SAF achieved a lot and was able to continue working for so long due to the wonders of modern medicine but SAF didn't build something from nothing either. United had recovered from the Munich disaster much much earlier before SAF came. Trophies are the bread and butter of a club's legacy and history. Paisley won much more in various competitions in a much shorter period of time than SAF could have dreamed of achieving at Man United. SAF stayed for so long yet won much less in comparison. Paisely's Liverpool was one of the most successful in club football history not to talk of just English history. Only teams which can be compared are the Barca side of the late 2000's under Guardiola and the late 90's AC Milan team. Growing old on the job doesn't mean a thing. Winning trophies is what counts.
As a Liverpool supporter of 30 years standing I'll happily say Fergie is a class act. One of the very first on the phone to Liverpool after Hillsborough, when the establishment were concentrating on the blame game, Fergie sent a coach load of supporters with flowers and wreaths to Anfield in sympathy and solidarity.
huge respect for this man. Leaving speech, get behind your new manager. thats the fans job. Shame they aren't doing that. But like i said, huge respect for Ferguson. Coming from a City fan.
This is hands down the best SAF interview ever. The interviewer was obviously a bit prepared but also had a massive naivety to who he was talking to. In the UK they treat him like a king with too much respect in many ways like it can be cringe. So yea this gets way more out of Ferguson than UK interviews.
Well done for saying that. Alex Ferguson's Aberdeen team is one of the greatest Scotland has ever seen. In 1983 they beat Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Hamburg.
I am not a Liverpool fan for one thing. I certainly accept Sir Alex is the greatest Scottish manager of all time. His acheivements cannot be questioned or devalued. Neither can those of Bob Paisley. I feel Paisley is better for one reason. He won 3 European Cups in 9 seasons when it was harder to qualify. Fergie won 2 European Champions Cups from 1990-2013 with far greater resources. It was easy for Liverpool in Paisley's time? What about beating Real Madrid in 1981? Are they an easy team too?
My oh Mine!... Sir Alex Ferguson has proven beyond reasonable doubt what a genius he was, and still is... as he was undoubtedly breathtaking, mind-boggling and thought-provoking!! Thumbs-up to Mr. Charlie Sale for not bringing up the subject of ungrateful Roy Keane, as he is clueless in the world of loyalty, respect and authority. The good news is that, he will soon realize how ignorant he was, as disrespectful people like himself will not be respected by the lads he will be supervising as an assistant (and not as the one in charge) indefinitely. To Keane, I say, good luck in your endeavors as a born assistant. Long live Sir Alex, long live his legacy, long live Manchester United!!!

Charlie Rose is a very smart man and Alex Ferguson is a greater football/soccer manager! Good entreview.
I simply adore him, i cried when they announced his retirement, and i loved this interview.........but dammit the captions were hillarious
I would've asked him more about his playing career with Dunfermline and Rangers and about his amazing years with Aberdeen.
It's a shame that Roy Keane and Alex's relationship fell apart . I would hope they can mend their relationship .
Was just about to write that very thing. Rose often doesn't seem to be listening to his interviewee though. Have always felt that.
This is hands down the best SAF interview ever. The interviewer was obviously a bit prepared but also had a massive naivety to who he was talking to. In the UK they treat him like a king with too much respect in many ways like it can be cringe. So yea this gets way more out of Ferguson than UK interviews.
This got me teary eyed
thank you for posting this video :)
Well done for saying that. Alex Ferguson's Aberdeen team is one of the greatest Scotland has ever seen. In 1983 they beat Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Hamburg.
The best ever. Well done Alex, thank you.
"I don't want to worry about Manchester United results. They're in good hands, David Moyes will do a good job"
Oops.
Fans fault not his.. I was one of them fans too..
Great interview with a legend
all time great, one or two sports figures in history stand shoulder to shoulder with him.
Greatest Manager Of All Time 👑🐐🌟🌍
The most "American" interview ever... It's like the interviewer hardly knows who he's interviewing but has been on Sir Alex' wiki-page after some trivia ...
Fergie is such an intriguing person, love listening to his stories and the insight into his life, can't wait to get me hands on his book come Oct 24th!
would love to see a long interview with him like this but with someone that has the slightest clue about football or british culture
Why do people always say they can't understand what ferguson says.. i think he speaks relatively clearly just has a very strong accent
There is one thing for sure sir Alex knows what he is at smart man get the mother don’t mind the father he would teach you a lot if his own mother and father could see him now they be very proud especially his da .he pulled his plan off perfectly good job sir Alex 👍
