The loveliest sweetest sounding guitar ever. N i listen to a lot of reviews. I've got n fg335 n i love it. Tuqs nut, bone saddle n buffalo bone bridge pins. Amazing guitars.
I just bought one that is in great shape bit needs tidying up from time setting..Probably same stuff this man performed..Any tips? I never messed with fret files..I have intricate files but read special ones are needed? are you familiar.?
I have a 79 and it sounds amazing. Better than many guitars I have tried over the years at quite high price points. It has some bumps and bruises but i would never sell it.
I have a '77. Lovely guitar. You have me motivated to possibly change the nut, saddle and end pins at this point. Also just grabbed a FG-351-SB off eBay too for a low price which is essentially the same guitar only with neck and headstock binding as well as an inlaid flower pickguard (al la Hummingbird).
Thanks for the review, very nicely played. Have you considered doing any guitar tech videos of set ups you might be doing? That would be so cool .... I'm sure there are lots of vids on here on that subject, but I think you would do a great job!
Hey Reuben happy Easter hope you and yours are good. I have just got around to buying one of these, partly influenced by your work on this one! I did point out that you could say 'told you so' when I bought another fg! Great work and thank you for posting.Michael
Thanks Micheal, it was from your great recommendation of your 336 that I encouraged him to bid on this one! Turned out to be a great guitar. Hope you are enjoying yours. Reuben
Just bought an FG336 IISB on Ebay. No idea what its like yet but might like to pick your brains when i get to have a look at it. Really interesting video. Many thanks.
Thanks John for your encouragment. If you want to send your FG down to me in Cardiff I will sort it out for you, no problem. It's probably quiet because of the cracked brace. Easy to fix and well worth saving. I have another guitar which had detached bracing and it sounds so much better after fixing. Loose or cracked bracing will dampen the top's vibration. Sorry for the late response by the way, my youtube messages go to an old email which I forget to check.
The Fg's are amazing. Just sold my FG200 1973, wish I could have kept that - brighter and much louder than my 336, but I love that shortscale warmth the 336 seems to have. I had a 335 too - 1980 - nice but lacked the balls of the 200 and the character of the 336. Not sure my 336 is worth the repair though -could that cracked internal brace be why it lacks the sound level? Action is set at less than 3 mm. My daughter is in Cardiff - maybe I should drop it in next time Im up there.
Hi Michael, - good to hear from you mate. Happy Easter to you too. I thought you already had a FG336SB?? If you've bought two of the same model then your GAS is as bad as mine!
Thats a beautiful sound, so is that a real bone bone nut you put on it and how bout the saddle, reason i ask is cause i have one identical to it but it needs set up bad
I now have the 336sb - beautiful body but it needs a neck reset and possibly a new truss rod - very cack handed repair - what would you charge - can I send pics?
Hey, beautiful sound. You obviously know a thing or two about guitar setup. Question- I found one of these at a pawn shop for $130. Assuming it has no serious issues, is that a decent price?
Hey, love your videos. I'm a huge Yamaha fan too. I did have a question for you. I just bought a Yamaha FG-160e Nippon Gaki, off Reverb. It's in very good condition. But I was wondering what setup tips you had. Should I replace the saddle and nut? If so would you recommend plastic, bone or tusk? What string do you recommend? And is there anything else you recommend? Thanks!
Advice I would give is go for a Taylor Tusk saddle and nut and Martin bronze strings 12-54. Put some lemon oil on fretboard when you take strings off. If action is high on 12th fret try adjusting trust rod or shave bridge so saddle will sit lower, shave saddle too. I aim for 2mm gap from 12th fret to string if possible. Hope this helps
Hi, difficult? Yes and no, if you've got all the tools and have practised a few times, it's easy (e.g. a set of good nut files which have a precision cut curve for each string gauge, and fret files), If trying first time and this is the only guitar you want to do, I'd advise to find a good luthier near you and save the money you'd spend on tools. Good luck :) If you're near Cardiff I can probably help out or via courier if you're further afield. Best wishes, Reuben
Spruce ply top and mahogany ply back and sides. 77-81 production years. Superior guitars for the money, if you can find one in decent condition with a straight neck.
Glad to see this video! i bought mine early 1978 and it's an old friend, still plays and sounds great!
I've had the same model guitar for over 25 years, its been solid, plays well and always sounds great.

Which of those two do you prefer?
That's some top notch noodling there, my friend. The same mood as Carl Miner conjurs up. Love it.
Great sounding guitar and excellent playing. Thank you for posting.
Still watch this - beautiful playing, and have just bought another wreck of a 336SB . . . . and an FG340 . . .

Hi, it's a mash up of Laura Marling's 'Goodbye Old England' Cheers :)

You are great my man my respects to you
What is the song you play at 6:00? is it anything or just messing about? Thanks :)
Did you cut those slots into the bridge, where the string goes into the pins? If so, how did you do that?
Hey, beautiful sound. You obviously know a thing or two about guitar setup. Question- I found one of these at a pawn shop for $130. Assuming it has no serious issues, is that a decent price?
I got 1 for $33 at a pawn shop. It did have a couple damages but still awesome

How much is it?
You sure it's the same? Or sure it was made in 89?? The FG-336SB was only made from 1977-1981. They discontinued in late 81
It's not mahogany is it

Dude, you’re mumbling And I can’t understand you clearly.
