    The coal fired power stations are unreliable because they haven't been replaced with new coal power stations when needed. The major maintenance hasn't been invested in because the operators were told they are getting shut down.

      I agree, especially about the hundreds of nuclear power plants china has coming online over the next 10 years, but as far as im concerned, both liberal and labor have been bought off by energy corporations, we take like 3% royalties for our resources, the companies sell our coal and gas to china and india for nothing and then we end up buying it back at a higher price as we have no national coal and gas reserve. just saw politicians retiring the other day to go work for the very energy companies they made energy contracts with, without tender. our country, the earth beneath our feet is literally being sold off for nothing for cozy jobs. it might as well be treason.

But there hasn’t been a difference in the costings from when the lnp was last in cause where I live in remote part of western QLD everything is expensive.

Australia will increase renewable energy generation capacity well beyond the current grid demands, making hydrogen at a competitive price to make steel without the need for oodles of coal.     Well done Laura! The truth is that Coal is the cheapest and most reliable energy we have and will ever have had...they haven't serviced those coal plants that are running because they plan to close them all and actually coal is the safest too, for our environment!
    We're being conned to spend crazy amounts of money to developing countries on this climate lie, in the meantime we'll go broke ourself and sit in the dark! Insanity!!

    This is crazy, we are one of the biggest exporters of gas in the world , Australian's should have the cheapest power prices in the world , but the government mismanages our resources and gives them away to other countries and pushes Australians to expensive unreliable green power.

    It was a normal summertime event and it is very close to the official summer.
    The coal fired power generators are old and unreliable because of government policy and renewables are not picking up the slack.

    The government has called for the closure of coal fired power generation plants.
    Why would any business invest in maintenance, expensive maintenance when the government wants the plant shut down.
    Why spend money, the government wants base load closed before their green power is available!

      Yes. It's not hard to be more reliable than solar which has an efficiency rating of something like 20% and wind at around 30%. So most of the time they are producing nothing, especially a typical summer night when the sea breeze completely dies away to nothing a couple hours after dark till about 9.00 am the next day.

    Coal power is cheapest. And coal doesn’t require backup.
    Solar doesn’t work.

    The difference is that nuclear produces base load power constantly into an EXISTING grid. Renewables have no existing distribution network and when built, will only be utilised 30% of the time. Coal and nuclear would be 100% of the time.

    I am a single pensioner, I live in a 1 bedroom flat, all LED lighting, no aircon and yet I have to pay $600 a quarter and the rebate is payed by other hardworking taxpayers.
    This man is out of touch with those that do actually know how the grid works.
