I believe the reason that the lumberjack wasn't chopping wood is because you were in creative mode, which often affects mobs (like when hostile mobs don't track you). The reason he planted so many saplings is because his block placement was in creative mode too.

Trayaurus story idea
Trayaurus wants to make a a voice for himself so that he can communicate with you and doesn't want to just sigh. but ends up causing total sound mischief and accidentally changes the minecraft sounds and makes everything sound stupid
one of the items you might need is the element villager sound resource pack for the noise of the video the rest of the story is up to you
