Nightviper, to this day, still blows my mind. He was one of my favorite transformers of all time. I also had Tankor, the deluxe Jetfire/jet drone (yes, we all called him Jetfire), Thrust, and Obsidian, Scavenger, and a really shoddy megatron, along with a few others I barely remember.
I really loved Hammerstrike. Cool beast mode, really unique Eva-influenced Robot Mode, and a clever transformation. Especially with how the tail splits into the robot legs. Just wish he was 1. Easier to find and 2. Not ridiculously fragile.
Sonic Attack Jet is one of my favorite toys of all time. Better colors and fixed a hair trigger issue that plagued the firing missiles on the Deluxe Jetstorm. And it kinda did have the neck thing in jet mode. It wasn’t as robust as the Ultra toy, but the cockpit did have a point of articulation when it was popped out.
If you were going to include a Cheetor, Nightslash Cheetor definitely is the most solid Cheetor toy from this line. It’s a shame that his colors are so off, but the Universe repaint works really well. Happy to say I own or have owned quite a few of these. And I’ve been meaning to get my hands on Night Viper and Skydive as Beast Machines incarnations of Quickstrike and Terrorsaur respectively.
I think Buzzsaw was a very interesting figure, the transformation is pretty unique, if he had a better right arm, he'd be perfect. And I personally would rank Tankor higher, looks nothing like the show, BUT it looks absolutely killer, the eye gimmick working in both modes is straight up magical.
The Sonic Attack Jet did have the neck gimic. You had to push the trigger behind the cockpit and it popped out. You could turn it from side to side. I liked it more than the Ultra class because it was easier to hold in one hand.
So I was able to snag the Botcon Cyclonus reuse of the Ultra Class Jetstorm, and i am so thankful that Cyclonus’ purple Metal Vac job has not flaked at all. I also used to have a large portion of the Beast Machines but passed a majority of it along to my friend. I kept the cycle and tank drones, Mega class Tankor, Grand Mal Megs, Scavenger, Che, Mechatron and Mirage. Plus the deluxe Jetstorm DOES have a neck, TJ you have to press the switch behind the cockpit to pop out the head with a slightly articulated neck.
Good list. Beast Machines hit just after I started collecting Transformers again after a 10 year hiatus. Having left at the end of G1 (1988), I was appreciative of the articulation present in most of the figures, and loved a lot of the character sculpted into the new designs. You hit a lot of my favorite figures, including Sky Dive, Jet Fire, and Black Arachnia (the best of the deluxes by far) and Night Viper, who remains an all time favorite of mine. Obsidian may be the single best figure in the entire line and it's a shame he's never gotten a bigger version. I think the Basic figures are the ones that shone the most, and the ones I have the fondest memories of. Scavenger was just fun and versatile, and I liked the hockey-stick missiles and mask of Mirage. Longhorn and Quickstrike had some drawbacks, but their designs had a ton of personality. Lastly, I know that he wasn't an original mold, but there was something about T-Wrecks color scheme that worked much better for me than Megatron's purple, and that holds true for the new incarnation as well.
Vehicon Mirage has to be up there for me in the few Beast Machines toys I own, I just wish the tabs on his hips weren't made of clear plastic, one of them snapped on mine... Also shoutouts to Snarl (the universe version, anywway), and basics Longhorn, they're far from perfect, but I do enjoy them both quite a bit.
I absolutely loved Night Viper! Pretty sure the Sonic Attack Jet/Jetstorm did have the posable cockpit neck. Just needed to hit the switch behind the cockpit and it would pop out giving you an extended neck with articulation
I know he didn't make this list because of clear plastic, but Vehicon Mirage is my all-time favorite Beast Machines figure. I love how much his color palette changes with transformation, and the sculpt uses yellow exhaust pipes on his shoulders that look like military dress-uniform pauldrons. Perfect for a Vehicon General. His packaging-bio also said he could short-range teleport, which is just plain awesome. My copy is still in great shape despite being well played with as a kid. Which makes me think his clear plastic isn't as vulnerable as other figures. I remember as a kid, I made the Beast Wars Fuzor Air Hammer his nemesis. Air Hammer's tail-blade-hand fit Mirage's neck perfectly to lift him by the throat.
Here's a tip from someone who also struggles with paleontology: if you don't know what to call a large prehistoric flying reptile, pterosaur is always a safe bet. It's as broad a term as dinosaur.
Interesting choices... my top ten would be based on which were the best or coolest looking toys, not going by show accuracy, so Blast Punch Primal wouldn't even make my list, and I actually preferred the deluxe Primal. My top ten would be: 10. Spy Streak (this actually was my favorite color scheme; he'd be higher on the list if not for balance issues) 9. Noble / Savage (Beastchanger) 8. Night Slash Cheetor 7. Battle Unicorn 6. Optimus Primal (Deluxe) 5. Obsidian 4. Megatron (still a dragon, despite his size) 3. Blastcharge (goofy robot mode, but I love him) 2. Jetstorm (Deluxe) 1. Tankor (Mega)
I only own 2 Beast Machines toys, Blackarachnia and Strika, and the former is one I bought from YOU, one of your ebay auctions. But really the only reason I have either of them is because of my obsession with getting all the female transformers.
Just picked up that Blackarachnia recently and I really like it. I would absolutely love to get the Rattrap and that deluxe Jetstorm too. I also have the horrifying baboon faced blue Optimus. For some reason.
A proper Anaconda could be a great Predacon. Doesn't have to be fancy. Legs extend out to lengthen the beast mode and fold up in robot mode. Have the head flip in and arms fold up to form a snake head that's detailed on the outside of the hands. Could easily be upscaled to for a leader class exclusive. Be a cool exclusive for a Jurassic Park crossover three. Give us a mosasaur figure!!!!! Upcoming Magmatron should give each of the individual dinosaurs a robot mode.
The funny thing is there are plenty of other good toys like night slash cheetor and mirage that weren't on the list, as well as some other figures that were pretty cool. I think beast machines as a toyline is really underrated. Sure the bad ones are REALLY bad, but I don't think the overall quality of the line is that bad.
I remember seeing that Optimus Primal at a comic book store in Bangor. $80 in the box. Was so tempted, but I only had enough for one IDW book. Honestly, I never really got a sense for just how big he was until I saw him in person. He always looked so small in pictures and videos.
tankor would made an amazing djd member also that snake is starscream colors and in a way makes starscream and cobra commander as one snake bot guy i like it alot
I actually really like "Webworld" because it adds to cyclonus' character in a really nice way. I like that it makes cyclonus something more than "evil decepticon" and actually adds an interesting sense of relatability to the decepticons. We've all been in that situation where you're trying to help someone you care about because you can tell that they're suffering. One of my favorite episodes of G1.
I personally rank Beast Changer pretty high. Its an ambitious attempt to create an actual functional transformation between Savage and Noble. Even if it did require part forming wings.
The only thing i didnt enjoy about Beast Machines watching as an adult, was where Primal was the super soft spoken Grandfather character, and gave those cringey speeches where he was like ASMR Grandad.
I loved Divebomb and used him or her in my fan films. I made him trans, them trans, just to be current. He is in Alt Transformers MUSH and has a cameo in the sequel series, Lexicons.
deluxe Jetstorm and mega Tankor were my first figures, nice to see some appreciation for them. I'm surprised to not see basic Mirage here, I picked him up a few years ago and he's a nice companion for those two, super slick car mode Feels like even the Hasbro Blackarachnia and the Motorcycle drone are hard to come by now
I'm not sure where I read it but I recall reading somewhere that the Vehicon generals looked so different to onscreen because the design was already represented with the drone figures, and Hasbro didn't want to release what was effectively the same figure, just bigger with some slight deco tweaks... at least not back then, Prime Beast Hunters on the other hand...
First off... and this is going to be spoilers cause it's actually the LAST thing you said in the video. I'm disappointed you left out Hammer Strike cause it's one I know you like (despite the translucent plastic and breaking issues) and I also really like that figure despite the fact mine is also broken. I just like the design and I've always loved aquatic Transformers. At least he got an honorable mention. :P Technically Beast Machines Obsidian is actually the only character who's toy was designed and released BEFORE the animation model. His toy wasn't even on shelves anymore by the time he actually appeared in the cartoon which was weird. He was part of wave 2 while Strika didn't come out till wave 9 and almost didn't come out at all because the toy line was cancelled immediately after. It was always kind of weird to me that they first appeared in the same episode together but Obsidian came out before anyone knew he would even be in the show and Strika came out a year after they had been in the show. Also Deluxe Jetstorm actually DOES have the articulated neck in vehicle mode. The cockpit is collapsed in the picture there and that's part of the transformation into robot mode but there is a button that extends the cockpit allowing it to be articulated just like in the show. I have that figure and on mine that button is a hair pin trigger that often extends when I don't actually want it to. Once it's fully transformed it usually stays in fine but without the legs locking it in place for robot mode I'd almost never stay closed.
TJ this is one of your worst edited/informed videos. It is SKYDIVE, Not Divebomb. Deluxe jetstorm has the neck as others have said. Cohrada was Neo not BW2
See. I knew he jinxed the whole shout out thing. Next time you're caught up, don't say it on video. And on BM Divebomb? Hasbro. There's your Wingfinger remold.
The deluxe sized version of Jetstorm did have the Vehicle neck gimmick. It was spring-loaded and had a little bit of articulation.
I came here to say exactly that. It gave some personality to the little guy
what they said
Precisely this, awesome little toy
Although the one I still own had a radically different deco than the one shown
@@baratacom Dark green, I assume?
I really enjoyed the deluxe version. First Jet Former.
I love how vehicons have moving cockpits/heads in vehicle mode, it's adorable in a weird way

I personally really liked the BM Buzzsaw. The idea to turn his wings into his legs was rather unique for an insect transformer
I was about to be that guy in the comments but you got it first nice
It says something about BM’s toyline when most of the best toys it had were Vehicons.
What I’d give for updates to the entire BM cast in the future…
If you were going to include a Cheetor, Nightslash Cheetor definitely is the most solid Cheetor toy from this line. Spy Streak is woefully under-appreciated by the fandom. Amazing figure!
Battle unicorn was one of the sleepers for me that I love. Having a Cybertronian unicorn. I have a battle hardened strategist was super cool to me.

BM Black Arachnia is awesome, and she is also in Alt Transformers Mush and Lexicons. Great toy. Still holds up 23 years later.

The deluxe jet drone does do the neck thing. All be it simplified but I have the skywarp as well. Solid figure.

We deserve a new beast wars series already 💯
Buzz saw was my favorite , both modes are great and the double eyes on the wasp mode look sinister.
The deluxe Jetstorm/Sonic Attack Jet/Storm Jet/Skywarp/Jhiaxus mold DID have an articulated neck in vehicle mode
deluxe Jetstorm and mega Tankor were my first figures, nice to see some appreciation for them. I'm surprised to not see basic Mirage here, I picked him up a few years ago and he's a nice companion for those two, super slick car mode

Night viper is basically a version of Raksha from BotCon 94. The NightRacer car though was a car.

Yes, It is Skydive.

There is something this month that matches my love of transformers. We are 6 days away from Zelda totk.
I have two Beast Machine toys from when I was a kid and I say that Buzzsaw is a real cool toy and could have been in a top 10.

just recently got deluxe jetstorm for like 5 bucks off ebay, its great
Beast Machines was an amazing toyline. I'll fight anyone on this.

Noble/Savage, Blast punch Primal, Rattrap, Night Slash Cheetor
There is a universe version of obsidian and its dark blue but it comes in a 2 pack with universe tankor
I always liked BM Buzz Saw

Jetstorm at #8? He was the best toy of the line though.
Honestly the beast machines toys were the happy meal tankor and jet storm
