Neil, you and I were born the same year. It's a real blessing we're still here. After all these years I've finally gotten to know your wonderful music. I'm trying to catch up on all the beautiful sounds and songs I missed. I'm so thankful that I'm having a wonderful time experiencing your work. I don't feel like an "old lady" when I'm listening to your music. Thank you so much.
Fun 😊. This concert was so much fun .We enjoyed so much. Neil Rocked. A bunch of us took a bus down there. Wild night. Thank you for the memories. We love you Neil ❣️❣️😚
This takes me back. My late wife and I were there. Far back, but still there. Great show even with the few problems, first time at a Neil Young concert there was music problems, but he got thru it. Great place the Fox, seen Neil several times there. Thanks for sharing.
These 1989 Neil Young and the Restless/Neil Young and the Lost Dogs shows with the late legends Rick the Bass Player and Ben Keith had so much energy. Thanks for posting!
This is a fascinating video document. I must say rare too, and my appreciation to whoever filmed it as your patience, and endurance ie remarkable. Thank you for uploading. I saw the same concert when the tour got to Brisbane, Australia. It was, at that point, the second time I had the pleasure to see Neil Young live.. I had seen him in 1985 with The International Harvesters/Crazy Horse, but the Young & Resless tour was a totally different experience altogether. The acoustic set was as quiet as a whisper at times, and the electric set was the loudest concert I have ever attended. I really thought the PA system was going to fall on top of the audience. The concert was also the first time I ever heard Rockin' in the Free World which hadn't been released at that stage, but hearing that song that night was great, and I hoped it would be on the new album 'Freedom' that was about to be released. Great times. It's so fantastic to have a video of one of these shows and I thank you for the upload, again.
Neil rocks out so hard in the electric set. I was 3rd or 4th row balcony for this show. I remembered him saying, "This never happens to Ratt" when his guitar malfunctioned. I also remember not being familiar with much of the set list, something Neil does in playing songs of his upcoming, unreleased albums. Eldorado EP was released in April, 89 and Freedom in October, 89, but a lot of those songs are played here. Thank you so much for taking me down memory lane. Great show in a great theatre.
I was at this concert. It's as great as I remember it. The highlight of this show for me and my newlywed wife was watching the encore of Tonight's the Night from a few rows back.
Well, they're not Freedom songs...as you seem to know. Neil recorded the E.P. "El Dorado" in December of 1988. The Bluenotes had disbanded and Neil had two new albums ready for 1988. The first was the E.P.(not-so-much an album) "El Dorado." For whatever reason, "El Dorado" was not sold on CD or LP in North America or Europe. It went straight to Australia and Japan(which were both under the same Asian distributing contract by Warner Bros/Reprise JP). However, Neil Young wanted to promote "El Dorado" anyway and grabbed Chad, Rick, and Ben Keith to help him out. It was on impulse which is very much like Neil to do a short-lived impulse tour or album. The original idea, I believe, was to eventually open the door to the "other" unreleased album which was a combination of "Times Square(another aborted E.P.)" and "Meadow Dusk(an unreleased album that Neil was recording just before ending the Life tour in late 1987)." Meadow Dusk was never released for reasons unknown and then Neil started the Bluenotes tours and all was forgotten of that. Songs from Meadow Dusk which exist(but not in studio bootleg) are: Dreamin' Man, Razor Love, Wrecking Ball, and Boxcar. Neil liked both Meadow Dusk and El Dorado and didn't want to lose them entirely...thus...Freedom was a result of those two(three if you include "Times Square") E.P.s/albums which have nearly been forgotten or in some cases never heard of. As far as I know, this is the only video of the Restless tour of early 89'. I tried finding audio but it's all ripped from this video.
@@ameerordimly1449 "I got another album comin' out in a little while -- couple of these songs/b-sides'll be on it." Neil Young was not referring to the album Freedom which came out later that year. He's referring to the unreleased album, "Times Square." The song he plays next (Wrecking Ball) was originally on Times Square and when Times Square didn't release; he put it on Freedom.
I remember being a teenager and "Eldorado," which was a Japanese only CD I searched out just for 2 extra songs & an extended, noisy "On Broadway." I think I paid $90 for those extra 2 songs that weren't on Freedom. Kids have it too easy almost with Internet, we had to go thru shit to get shit, and I was one of the last generations without computers 😅
I met Rick at a restaurant across from massy hall, talked to him for a min, got his Autograph on a napkin.. who is the drummer that backs him when he plays with Rick. Same drummer from rocking in Rio from around 08 and rocking in the free world video. Neil seems to get frustrated with his timing sometimes
Damn I really love the rock numbers on Eldorado/Freedom. Just the way that simple drumbeat plays off his electric guitar.. His leads and heavy open notes are straight fire, too. This era was Neil Young hanging ten on a 50-foot wave, with style. Nothing he's playing is complicated, but it sounds so damn musical

Maybe his best decade, ever. Coming off the blue notes tour , crazy horse, international harvesters,trans,...❤

I remember the Ratt comment as well! good times
Thanks for uploading! This is a wonderful time capsule of a very creative period in Neil's career.

I remember when Neil unleashed Like a Hurricane on the world...fantastic!
What a great bunch of fans you had on that wonderful night we all love you nei
Thirty years ago, how did you even get that cam-corder in there! ?
Glad you did.
Wow, I saw this Tour in New Orleans, 5 days later same set list. It killed!
FANTASTIC!!! THANK YOU! GREAT TIME!!!
Not everyday you see Neil going through some Marshall stacks but I do see the 5e3 to the right

Wow, thank you for posting this!
Thank you so much for this!
Rock n Roll will never die!
Good Soul Forever Young.
Best band he ever had.
Rest in Peace Rick Rosas...great bassist!
Just carries on through the issues with the amp during heavy love
Did it have to be so dark? It's so enjoyable watching Neil "Rock".
Sooooo good
Incredible!!
Indeed. One can only hope that one of these shows is released as part of the NY performance series.
This concert was my bday present . My bday is January 12 !
Is this the only instance where those "Freedom" songs were caught on video? Wonderful stuff!

There is a VHS out there & probably online, too, video called Freedom with acoustic Neil live in '89.
Wow
Was this really done with a camcorder? The camera work would suggest that, but I would have expected the audio to be so much worse.
Neil tak tego nie czyta co piszemy poczyta sobie te miliony tekscików kiedys tam kiedys ...przy 🏝️w Edenie ....✌️👋👋👋

That was good NY times
Is this available for download somewhere?

Yeah Eldorado is the highlight. Great show front to back!
Missouri is MS, not MI.
Thanks for pointing that out but we know what he meant, lol.
Missouri is MO
@@tylerclaird Thanks! Will fix that :-)
I guess the restless
was the audience
Well done order up
Too much crowd noise to appreciate this video. I wish people would STFU when a musician plays acoustically...
The dude whistling nonstop was driving me nuts!
Y’all are spoiled. This is a gem, Neil energized. Recording is fantastic!
