Some might call me crazy but I actually thought Anissina & Peizerat should have won this competition. While their free dance got the thumbs down, I thought it was technically way more ambitious than either B&K or K&O's free dances. I also had A&P second at Europeans and Worlds that year behind G&P for that same reason. But I'm sure I'm in the minority with that opinion. As for B&K, this is probably one of their finer free dances. I did not like their 1996 free dance, nor did I like Riverdance. But their free dances in 1997 and 1999 were much better efforts. It always seemed like they skated their better programs during non-Olympic years (although their 1994 Rhumba OD was absolutely amazing).
