- Watch Nina the puppy grow - in a single TH-cam clip. In this video I record my miniature schnauzer puppy, Nina, at the age of 3 months - and then at 6 months. As a result, mid-way through you can see Nina suddenly turn from a fluffy puppy into a handsome mini schnauzer. There's quite a transformation. Recorded on my iPhone 5S here in Norwich, Norfolk, UK, with commentary by me - Ian Bullock. Filmed in November 2013 and then March 2014. Isn't she gorgeous?!!

Wow, she really grew in that 3 month span, and beautiful she is. I had a miniature silver haired schnauzer called Alphie, who has gone to doggie heaven now and I'm too old to get another. However, in his memory I wrote a children's true story (published) titled "Alphie in the Cucumber Patch." Yes, that's right, he loved cucumbers. I also have a you tube video of the same title. My husband and I just got one. She is 6 weeks old and adorable. She is the same coloring as this one which is nice to see because I cannot seem to find out the name of the coloring. Adorable!!

Such a beautiful dog thanks for sharing I used to have a boxer who sadly died 8 years ago . I feel I’d like another dog but something a little more compact so the schnauzer is in the running. Just a couple of questions do they bark excessively? And are they generally ok to leave alone for a few hours during the day ? Thanks
Thanks so much for this. Nina is a particularly quiet dog and on some days she will hardly bark at all. But I do think that schnauzers generally can be quite noisy. They like to stand guard at windows and bark at passers-by. As for leaving them, I usually suggest about four hours maximum. They’re lovely little dogs and big characters! Ian B x

Haha. Yes! I have indeed sung in several choirs during my lifetime. Mostly as a bass, of course. I think that my choral singing is one of the reasons why my voice is a little unusual and I don’t have a Norfolk accent. Thank you! Ian B 😄

I have a chonzer it's a mix between mini schnauzer and bicheon frise it looks like yours when it was a baby but just bigger

They do have the odd gingery hair and often their beards go brown. Some people say this is down to meaty food with gravy in it. Others say it is caused by the water they drink - and therefore advise using mineral water, rather than tap water.
The schnauzer that I had as a child was developing a red tint in his beard. My mother used to cook him dinner every night, usually based upon ground beef.
I took some of the ground beef to school with me and extracted a reddish material from it using Soxhlet extraction and chromatography. My father worked in duPont's research center here in Wilmington and determined that the grocery was adding Red Dye #2 to their ground beef. A letter to the Food and Drug Administration put an end to that!
And Snoopy's beard was back to the salt and pepper coloration in a short time. :-)
She looks very cute! I was wondering if you could actually leave the coat fluffy for schnauzers...I love fluffy dogs and having never had one, I am contemplating between a standard schnauzers and BRTs (Black Russian Terrier). Is it OK to keep the dog considerably hairy?
Hi, I know your not asking me but I would like to try to help you out. Yes it is okay to leave you schnauzer hairy but you have to brush and bathe them more frequently I would suggest that you brush your schnauzer once or twice each day and bathe them at least once each week. Hope I helped. :)

Beautiful dog! Ian, as this is your 4th Miniature Schnauzer, could you please tell me, in your opinion how much of a problem can their barking be? This breed seems perfect for our family, but we keep hearing that barking can become excessive in them!?!
I realize you're not asking me, but I have a 6-year-old mini schnauzer. When she would bark as a puppy, I would simply say "No Bark" and mimic closing your mouth with my hand. Now she will hardly ever bark around me (maybe once every few months) and if I just do the hand movement she will stop. If I'm not around, she'll bark some. She actually whines quite a bit if she's left alone. That's just my experience with them. My sister had a schnauzer that barked like crazy, but she was never much for consistent training.
I recently lost my 14year old male miniature schnauzer (5days ago) he never barked at all the only time I ever heard him bark was if a horse was outside my house - they are extremely intelligent dogs and easy to train so if barking is an issue for you it really shouldn't be with a schnauzer
My schnauzer never barked unless she was outside and saw a squirrel or something like that. But inside she was so mild tempered and loving. Perfect dog. Good choice for any owner

I have a new schnauzer now .....barks more in one day than my last dog did in his whole life lol but its not as bad as he was and if I tell him "no bark" he looks at me and stops he only really barks now when were out walking and he meets somebody when he walks away he turns around towards them and barks once -.- like a bye lmao

I am getting an 8 week old salt and pepper male miniature schnauzer next week, I sure hope he will be easy to train not to bark all the time except for intruders. I don't know how to train him not to bark so much though.Praying he will be easy !

Do they drop hair all over the house and carpet?
They do not! They hardly shed at all. I think this does cause them to have skin issues(particularly acne), but monthly haircuts and weekly baths in an antimicrobial wash have helped mine with that.
Thanks for that. Should I worry about the acne, it sounds serious. I mean, is it a foregone conclusions that they will suffer from it?
Some dogs suffer from it and some don't. Unless it gets infected it is really just cosmetic. Every schnauzer has their own little personality quirk, but once you have one you understand why people are so crazy about them.
I see them at the park and they are such great characters. I have to decide between this and a cockapoo.

yes they do,we have quite a few schnauzers in our family and in one house there can be up to five,and as soon as someone knocks on the door they all bark at the same time for a while until everyone's in and settled down,but they are great dogs with a lovely temperament
DailyFixOf Everything Mine barks until someone opens the door if he sees a squirrel or if someone knocks on the door. He'll literally be barking for a good half hour if you don't let him out.

Hi Daniel. I’m sorry to hear about your little dog. I don’t actually know much about toy schnauzers. We’ve had four female miniature schnauzers, dating back to around 1990. Lottie, Klara, Trudi and Nina. They’ve all been different sizes. Some minis are very tiny and really light to pick up. Some are much bigger, particularly the males. Nina is quite chunky for a female and weighs over 10kg at the moment, which is too heavy. I’m trying to keep her on a diet. If you watch some of the schnauzer videos on my channel, where we all get together, you’ll see how much they differ in size. Ian B

be carfull when she is older my mini schauzer has cushing descease ... diabietes and she is blind... :( but she is still kicking but be prepared they start to have health problems at the age of 10
