    I'm starting kinder again! I'm so excited to work with her this year, but mama! Bouncing 4 now! We've been doing pre-reading skills up to this point, but real curriculum work is starting this year. 😱🙏 This video got me excited instead of sightly panicky. Thank you!🙌💕💕

    My little one's goal for pre-k was to read and she achieve it, she is 4. We are so glad and happy. Now she is starting to write letters, notes, cards. I homeschool her. So we need to find more goals to achieve during kindergarten. 😁

    I have two teenagers (and a kindergartener too) and YES, you teach them the stuff young. Teen years are for PRACTICING good character and seeing how it works in the world. It starts in the young years.

    My 5 year old loves the leapfrog dvds. He's not ready for letter sounds yet, he will need speech therapy and hearing aids, so I'm hoping we can start then. But for now he watches those dvds alot. He's favorite is the punctuation song

    Most people are nervous to homeschool high school - not me. I was scared to death to start kindergarten with my youngest though! (My other kids went to public school for a while.) You nailed this. We tend to over complicate kindergarten. Simple but strategic, that’s what’s worked for us.

    • @JoyfulNoiseLiving
      @JoyfulNoiseLiving  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! You’re right! I totally over complicated it with my first, and then learned to relax with my other two.

    My almost youngest (and my only boy) will be a Kindergarten student next year...I can't believe it!!!! He will be my third time teaching Kindergarten and I have gotten more relaxed each kid 😂😁
    I love love love your suggestion of reading and reading and reading ❤️ I think that is the absolute core of our homeschooling. Also habits...so hard but so good as my little guy still has problems putting his shoes away right when we get in the door...even though that has been the house policy before he was born!!!!
    But, he is so creative and it is wonderful 👍 He is a pro with Legos!!!
    My basic plan is to keep it simple: lots of stories, C.C. memory work, letter formation, solid "number sense", and maybe Alphabet sounds (if he is ready...we shall see).
    Anyway❤️ this video has encouraged me in keeping Kindergarten simple and not overwhelming myself or my awesome son!!!!

    Do you have any suggestions on teaching obeying right away? I have a 4.5 year old daughter and she is sooo independent and also has reasoning for everything that she is asked to do.

    • @JoyfulNoiseLiving
      @JoyfulNoiseLiving  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This sounds JUST like my youngest. He’s been negotiating logically with us since he was 2 😜 So, my experience with him is think about the usual situations where she is prone to not obey right away, come up with a clear consequences is she does not obey. Deciding ahead of time and not in the moment is SO important. Then tell her what those expectations are (basically a warning). When she doesn’t obey right away, immediately give the consequences immediately. Don’t let her negotiate or argue. You just say clearly and calming “You didn’t obey, these are the consequences.” It will be tough to hold the line at first (probably lots of tears!) but when she gets that Mom (and Dad) are serious and have clear boundaries, it will get better. We usually see a change within a week or two. The biggest lesson I have learned with this child is to be FIRM, CLEAR, and CONSISTENT. He responds best to that.
      But work on one “habit” at a time. (Putting things away when asked, getting to the car on time, getting ready for bed… those are things we have recently worked on with my 6 yo). And choose some kind of reward when she DOES obey right away. It can be as simple as words of praise. “Good job! You obeyed right away, I’m so proud of you!” “That was great! That is what mommy wants to see from you.”

      Hi, and welcome! I am not comfortable sharing my parenting style in such a public place. You may catch things here and there from my videos, but I’d rather keep it private. In general, my husband and I try to honor God, and we use the Bible to lead and guide ourselves and our children. We ask for forgiveness when we wrong our children, and we implore them to do the same with they hurt someone or disobey.

    At what age have you found that kids are ready for chapter books?

    • @JoyfulNoiseLiving
      @JoyfulNoiseLiving  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      About 6 was when I started with my oldest. I read Poppy by Avi to her and she loved it. 🥰 I read other smaller chapter books over the next couple years to her and her brothers after that (Mr. popper’s Penguins, Little Pear, books that were listed in Sunlight A) then we started doing bigger ones when she was about 8.

    This might seem like such a silly question but my oldest is turning 6 at the end of Sept and that's when I plan to start homeschooling. Is that considered Kindergarten or 1st? 🤔

    • @JoyfulNoiseLiving
      @JoyfulNoiseLiving  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great question! It depends on your kiddo. Some kids would be considered Kinder, some you can consider 1st Grade. Most people recommend waiting rather than pushing ahead. I'm finding that a lot of people are not starting "kindergarten" until their kids are about 6. My older two turned 6 in October and December of their Kindergarten year. My youngest is a little different. He flew through his kindergarten work last summer, so I decided to start him in first grade this current year. He turned 6 the first week of August. So I had to decide if he would be on the older end of Kinder, or on the younger end of 1st.

      @@JoyfulNoiseLiving thank you! I want to eventually use A Gentle Feast but I think he might not be ready for it just yet. I'll probably wait until next year even though I'm excited :)
