Growtopia feels like a collective fever dream. You almost never hear that someone else has played it but those who have almost allways have the exact same experience and the game has influenced everybody the exact same way
That's fascinating, I grew up in Finland, and it's almost impossible to find a gen Z who hasn't at least heard of growtopia, it was a whole national phenomenon
This game taught 12 year old me shrewd economic and business practices with the added bonus of severe trust issues. Yet, this game still holds a special place in my heart.
Could've also mentioned how so damn volatile the market was. There were so many times where I'd be flipping a certain item and not even 12 hours would go by and it would either skyrocket in price or plummet.
@@austinorsomeonealtIdk if you’ve reached this, but there are higher valued locks now. After Wl or World Lock, there are Diamond Locks (100WLs merged into one), and eventually the Blue Gem Lock by merging 100 Diamond Locks into one. Ever since the departure of most of OG devs, a lot has changed, and so are the prices of most items. It’s been years since I’ve played as well, so idk how the game is now, but I still consider to play it in the future with my friends who also played a decade ago lol, when most of us have the motivation for it again. Edit: Oh also the last time I played, there are Break for Gem worlds. These are pretty much worlds where u rent a room for breaking their farmables. U break their farmables, and u get the gems dropped, while they get the seeds. This is possible because of the Magplant item. It pretty much retrieves the chosen farmable’s seeds and blocks. Assign a chandelier, and the magplant retrieves all its seeds and blocks. [Edit 2: I forgot to mention this, but those players that rent a room can get a remote from the Magplant, which is what they need to place a farmable block.] Players who rent would benefit from gems, while the BFG owners benefit from getting WLs from those players renting a room, and an easier time to amass their farmables, to then make more farm worlds or sell those excess seeds for even more profit. Essentially, GT has also become more corporate than ever before lol. You probably caught up to this, even tho I said all these already, but it might still be worth leaving this for anyone who didn’t.
i got scammed a few times, managed to figure out that in those dropper type games you can actually get profit from them if you fake hesitating to drop a lower tier lock and pick it up fast, they will then give you a wl to gain your trust, here's where you just dip.
It first turned me into an incredible business man, like i look back at it and for being so young I really did have so many tactics and strategies to make money, then it turned me into a monster. I got scammed with one item one time that was worth basically everything I had worked for, can’t remember exactly what item, I think it was a black dragon thing. Anyways, I dropped it when I was with a guy a knew or thought I knew very well that I had been hanging out with on growtopia for a few months, only for him to ban me, unfriend me and destroy the three worlds we had togehter. After that I started to scan and become the most evil 13 year old kid ever, It was really my villain backstory because I became such a disgustingly bad person, i’d scam, trade items that looked similar to other items for higher prices, drop games, everything. Growtopia turned my young self into a monster
Bro you literally summed up my entire relationship with this game. Started in 2015, broke for the first few years then discovered buy+worlds and started trading. Amassed 30~ worlds until i decided to quit and sold/gave all my dls to friends. Came back this year to find out I was sitting on a gold mine and played for about two weeks with some old friends for nostalgia purposes and quit right after because it became boring af. Sick video bro!
@@tankmeta2500i cannot remember every single one from the top of my head but the most prominent ones were CLOTHES, BUYWESTERN, BUYANIME, BUYNECK, BUYAQUA. The rest were things like BUYCOPPER, BUYPLUMBING ect…
This game was basically my life at some point, all of my friends were there, I spent all of my free time in the game and it will always have this special spot in my heart, The game is completely ruined now, and going back to it will just cause sadness from seeing in what state the game is right now. But if I could go back in time I would still go back to the game. You said, the game ruined your childhood, but personally, for me, I don't see it in that way. Even though the game had huge effects on my childhood and I can't say all were good but when I look back I can see how big of an impact this game had in my life and it basically made me who I am. It taught me many important things, like economy, not to trust strangers, how hard work pays, English, and how you probably lose more if you gamble, but it also had an impact on my current life, I have so many good memories and I got do many lifelong friends with which I still chat daily even though none of us plays Growtopia anymore, I started learning video making and animating only for Growtopia, I even got interested in video games in the first place because of growtopia and got first devices to play games to be able to play growtopia and later (Growtopia was almost the only game for me until 2018) on played other games and got more friends, and I started studying program engineering, software, and game development later on because of my interest in games. I cannot imagine what my life would be if I had not started playing Growtopia. Would I have started playing games and bought the devices? Would I still have become interested in software engineering and moved to study where I am now? All of the people around me that I met through Growtopia and other games, would I have met them? If I had not played Growtopia I am sure I would not be the same and my life would have turned completely different. It is crazy to think how big of an impact a small decision like downloading a game might have.
I played this game as a kid and I am still proud of myself for this having been the point in life when 12 year old me realized "grind for grind" games are not worth my time, that was such a complex thought for 12 year old me ten years ago
Well, it's a game after all, games are by definition just wasting your time, but by wasting time we can find a calm and happy atmosphere. (Don't talk about competitive games please😅)
Hahaha same lol. Tho I found a gold mine in crafting "I forgor what" and basically made like 10 wls for gathering and crafting then selling the item. Did it for a month until the market fixed itself. Got like 20ish DLS. And couldn't resist my gambling (Legal, say no to casinos but yes to loot boxes) addiction
@@YourFailsafegrowtopia single handedly Carried English to become my second language and honestly community in pre to around 2015 was fire. So long as you ignore the.. racism, sexism, Strippers? (Why did those exist), homophobia and politics... Scrap that fuck this game
This game brings out the worst in people for how innocent it looks on the surface, I at least had a good send off, I donated all my stuff to a random person in a trading world and they looked so happy despite being doubtful at first. Probably the only game I would not revisit it at all despite it being a core childhood memory game of mine, and rather just let it be a part of my memory.
I think it was something special, but not something I would care to revisit. I think for me the best part was playing it with my friends and siblings as a kid.
I would do the same, interacting with other people was super fun. But now this game feels like a factory and felt like they're pumping items 24/7 with new youtubers just talking about how useful it is to farm with it.
Growtopia will always have a special place in my heart. I poured like 4000 hours into that game. Nowadays I can't even play the same game for more than 100 hours. One of the things I find so interesting about the game is that it was my first time interacting with absolute strangers, all the way from South East Asia to Scandinavia. I still find it crazy to think that my old "friends" in that game live very different lives now, I once logged on a year ago and saw one person online in my friends list. I messaged her because I recognized her name as I used to play with her a lot (literally almost everyday after school for like a whole year). She disappeared at some point but she was one of my first friends in the game. I remember I taught her how to do surgery in the game (which I remember being painful because I had to do it by text in game). We decided to hop on discord, since I found out she actually had the same idea as me of revisiting the game for nostalgia. We talked for almost two hours and I later learned she was actually studying to be a nurse and eventually plans on going to med school. Very long comment but it blows my mind how much a simple game can connect people. Everyone has that one childhood game they're fond of, for me it was Growtopia. Also as a sidenote, you really can't expect to "know" the people you meet behind the screen, cuz when I hopped on discord with her that was my first time hearing her voice. I had always assumed she was a guy because she had a male name and avatar in game. Thanks for attending my Ted talk 👍
You taught her how to do something in a video game and it ended up making her study the art IRL and go down a beneficial, related career path, that’s actually beautiful
My only experience with this game was in 2014 when my friend introduced it to me so we could play together.2 hours later a griefer came in with his griefer pals and destroyed everything with we worked for and I got so upset I have never touched the game again since.
I've always been broke in this game, like I started in 2014 and was active until I started university in 2020 but nothing I ever did got me that big break. The biggest disappointment is the absolute lack of actual building by the community. There used to be genuinely good storytelling and map design.
Yeah, i remember there was fun worlds like ZOMBIEGROW, TOWNTOPIA and etc. Sadly now growtopia turned into Las Vegas with spam bots and people that only talks indonesian
@@VMP_666Indonesian here, it's wild how popular it is. I had friends that still plays it on and off and they'd talk about how the DLs are priced these days whenever they met. Somehow, Growtopia caught on here where so many MMOs doesn't, probably because GT doesn't need a lot of texts to play which is great considering a lot of Indonesian don't speak English.
Exactly all the new worlds are just trade worlds filled with ads and portals😭 community got significantly worse when pcats wicker10 and coco monkey all quit
Aww man, i remember playing the game non-stop back in the day. Me and my cousins used to spend sooo much time on it, used to argue because of the in-game items, even got into periods of not talking to eachtother that lasted like a month- just because we did something in the game.. I started playing like in late 2016, and the game used to be so much different. It isn't only a game for many people, it used to be the thing we looked at almost like a job at some point.. It sucks to see that it has been falling apart for the past few years. Feeling down at times and being bored of it just came in cycles, and i used to play on and off, like all the time. Back at the start of September in 2019, my cousin and i decided to revisit it- and we've had pleasant experiences of course, but all of that was mostly overshadowed by the game becoming significantly worse, or it was simply the nostalgia wearing off after all those years. Still though, sucks to see part of your childhood falling apart, and as you said.. it'll probably shut down anytime now, so might as well enjoy the memories while it's still here. On a second note, loved the video. It reminded me of the times i used to play it as a kid, it's those little moments that you can value for the rest of time. Keep going with youtube, try not to get discouraged. Thanks for reminding me this game made my life better! :D
Y'know, maybe I should consider making a video about this game because I have a lot to say about it. I started on GT since 2014-2015 ish and my account is over 10 years old This game truly was a unique experience no other game gave me, and it was for several reasons. It gave me an understanding of right and wrong, basic economics, talking skills . . . POLITICS LMAO. I was scammed quite a lot due to my friendliness and carefree nature when playing, though I managed to end up with tons of world locks when I put the game down. I even had my account hacked - but luckily I stepped in to take it back in time. I especially loved the community events that were year-round, or even player-specific ones. Although it was the right decision to sell the game considering their very small team, the game did become lesser quality over time. I even went out of my way to interview a few people about it, and they all had relatively the same answers. But yeah, this game gave me anxiety and trust issues looool. Btw thank you for adding in the cool gt references and at the end of the video. :') Means a lot to us veterans
damn, this was my childhood, i remember not being able to sleep because 11 yrs old me just got scammed on growtopia. I never got rich but i had like 3 worlds that's semi popular, a parkour, club & a gothic roleplay world. I gave my account away to my cousin and that idiot gave all my possessions away
Yeah, a part of me also would just want to delete this part of my memory forever. I had built too much emotional value to my possessions and my online friends over my 1500 hours of playing this game(still my most played game ever). Then I got scammed by my best friend in the game, with whom i had spent tens, maybe hundreds of hours over the years. It took many years to recover from this and it still keeps me awake sometimes. (Sorry for the trauma dump, just wanted to say this)
At one point this game was amazing, and fun to play sadly Ubisoft and bots/hackers have ruined it, I miss having fun and playing this game as a kid, but now when I look back at it the game was pointless, yes I made friends that I would’ve never met otherwise, but for the most part the game was pointless. This game was my childhood I started playing when I was like 12, it was fun making friends on gt, but also hard to trust people
I made friends and, lost “friends” playing this game, this game honestly taught me some important life lessons, like people will take advantage of you, most people only care about themselves, and not at all about you, it’s crazy to see how many people faked friendships just to scam someone out of items
Honestly now this game has just reminded of of being scammed, manipulated, and tricked, and the years I wasted playing this game, I’m happy that I did play though cause if I didn’t I wouldn’t have met some of my best friends
This game jump started my programming career. It was so easy to hack this game and it made me interested reverse engineering programs. I remember flying above people in seediary and doing flying races against other cheaters in it.
Welcome to Growtopia here we teach you all about. -Social interactions -Making friends and having fun. except that all a lie. We're teaching you all about -Trust issues -Inflation -The economic collapses. -The great depression. -Doing the same thing over and over for hours to earn minimal pay. -Manipulation. -Evil corperations guide to exploit consumers.
HOLY SHIT JUST OPENING THE MENU SENT ME ON A PTSD FLASHBACK, i remember having an entire system for harvesting pinballs where everyday I’d spend 40 minutes planting and harvesting, I’d have the same amount to harvest every day because I timed them so fucking perfectly to align with my schedule.
Yeah after that i just playing for fun but yeah also profit, i do trading buy+ thats hella more profit that farming lol in just 1week (without playing 11 hour) i can get like 30dl
I remember I held a sleepover as a kid where we all played Growtopia. We decided to create a world to clear it ,because that made worlds valuable, and then try and sell it, (Not 100% sure about this I haven’t played this game in years). We spend pretty much the entire flipping night clearing everything. The next day one of my friends who owned the world, said that someone had hacked his account, and stolen the world. I ,of course, being incredibly naive, immediately believed him. Years later this game came up in conversation, and another friend of mine mentioned that the original friend just made that whole thing up to steal the profit. So that sucked. I also remember that the original friend would apparently skip school just to stay home and grind Growtopia. Even back then I could see that this game was toxic and unhealthy for kids. It was simply way too addictive. And the status you would get for being “rich” was definitely a big part of that addictiveness.
algorithm blessed!!!!111 Growtopia has been a confusing and odd game to me, my journey began 2014 and quit after ubisoft had owned Growtopia after some month, this game single-handedly taught what corruption felt like and it sucked ass, i tried going back to see what was up with today but sadly i just saw bots everywhere
I remember putting so many hours into this game lol, I remember working really hard to get a Eye of Growganoth pet because I thought it was really cute then I got scammed a long time ago and lost it, but when I revisited it I got it again and I just build pixel art in it now, mostly because I play realm of the mad god more way more then GT and really passionate of that to the point of being a disc mod and a closed tester/UGC there! Very good video of GT, kinda threw me off seeing it in my recommended honestly! (Edit: the daily challenge grind was absolute hell and I will never wish it on my worst enemy)
Lool i remember autofarming in bfgs for hours on end and grinding the daily challenges and shit to focused eyes i always dreamt of when i finally got them i quickly quit after gambling all my dls
This game has a hold on me, and im pretty sure it's the nostalgia. Ive been playing on and off for 11 years, quitting and coming back to just get sucked back in. I love the social aspect of it, and meeting new people to hang out with. But in the 11 years I've played im a "mid" rich. Not super wealthy but not super poor. Its crazy.
Some random dude scammed my brother in this game, It taught my brother how to see fair deals and trades, and who or who not to trust. This eventually branched into Roblox and now I'm pretty sure he's gonna be taking business classes soon from the information he learned because of a random guy, butterfly effect is weird af.
I started around 2017 and I learnt things the hard way. I Became a ruthless scammer hosting drop games with the help of a few friends. I knew all the ways to kick, pull, ban simultaneously (with no brb chat bubble). I gotta say it was certainly one of the most enjoyable moments I've had throughout my 4k+ hours on this game. Ofcourse I stopped and played fair and even years on. But the introduction of gambling took a toll on me. especially when inflation was too much.
Try out pixel worlds, growtopia but more popular and where the supposedly supreme currency became more common than the supposedly worse currency due to duping glitches.
When i was like 9-10 years old, i got scammed and basically lost everything, i cried for 10 minutes, thats why i have the worst trust issues in existence lmao
My grind/farming world got hacked and had its gold lock stolen away and my gold locks in my inventory had been stolen somehow, i just quit after that in january 2018
Growtopia was my first ever multiplayer game, seriously it felt like a fever dream. I have mixed emotions about it consisting of rage, anger and pain. + Don't get me started about *private servers* 💀
I feel like the fact that Growtopia is gone to shit it's not about a game, but about that cursed genre of 2D-economic-MMO-whatever that is in fact ABSOLUTELY DOOMED.
I remember around 2015-2016 when I was playing growtopia and we had those "garbage blocks" (anybody can break them even If they are locked) I thought they were just normal blocks that functioned just like the others, I had one of those trading worlds that you drop items In and type the price on a sign next to the item and my child brain decided to make all the blocks garbage blocks, mind you I was stacked on items back then and had dropped some good items as much as I can remember. So I finish making my world (all I used was just garbage blocks and those vent doors and some wood signs) I go to sleep, I wake up and log back on just to find out all my items were stolen LOL, I was so confused and thought I got hacked, but yeah nice video man and I definetly miss playing growtopia back then, but I for sure do not miss playing drop games with that one shady looking indonesian.
I remember almost getting manipulated into sending illicit pictures of myself to someone after being friends with them for months, all the way back when i was still in elementary school. This game was awesome.
I've been playing for 10 years and still occasionally will hop on for the nostalgia. I probably have quit the game 6 times and yet I find myself always coming back. It's a pleasure to see some old friends online and catching up with them. I was never rich because I cared more about world building and socializing. It truly was such a unique experience and it's kinda sad seeing the direction it went under Ubisoft. I saw a lot of my friends leave and never return when Ubisoft came in. I wish Ubisoft took more action to take care of it's players / servers / issues than exploiting us for money. Only reason I'm playing nowadays is to accomplish my one goal of making a WOTD. Seeing a video like this is also such a fresh breathe of air since most GT content is mostly gambling and profit videos. Great video!
I played that shit religiously in middle school. While I did look back on it with negative thoughts, I recently discovered a GT History series on youtube, which really brought back the nostalgia. Seeing these events being recalled as "ancient history" while I remembered living through that was something that I never expected to make me look back fondly on those memories. I don't regret my time wasted on that game anymore. While there were a lot of bad memories, there were also a bunch of good memories and friends I made there. Never gonna play that ass game again though LOL
Oh man this this fills me with nostalgia and unlocks some memories of being in school where all my classmates played this game. I can almost feel the carpet we had in the back of the class where many were gathered around, sitting or laying down on during recess and talking while playing
The amount of times the title screen gave me a heart attack back then… Oh the memories 😂 I’m still friends with my old Growtopia friends and we used to be SO POPULAR, mostly because my friends were close with the mods plus Phonecats (iykyk) I honestly miss playing the events, they were so fun 😢 This was super nostalgic to watch, very solid video!
Every time you hear someone talking about growtopia and actually knowing how to play the game it brings up those certain memories hidden in the back of your brain😢
Goddamn the nostalgia blast in this video, the music, the artstyle, genuinely iconic, I don't think I'll ever be able to forget this game for my whole life. Really shaped my childhood before becoming a teen/growing up, learning english/how trading works, spending crazy amounts of hours learning parkour maps for a couple world locks, clearing and selling worlds, finding cool/profitable names, farming for events, the carnival and harvest moon I think were my favorite, trying to trick people and being scammed in return, I remember my whole goal for a whole year or something was getting those awesome lightning eyes with those green coins I no longer remember the name of... I was never really at the top of the food chain, i remember getting the diamond world lock only a couple times, but I had my fun/highlights at the middle/lower classes, enjoying the grind of getting something cool once in a while while interacting with others. I remember recommending it to others in my class and getting a whole friend group addicted to it, and being scammed later by them(still absolutely upset about losing my first devil wings to them) was the most devastating thing that kind of ruined my irl relationship with them for months at school xD, it's just wild the amount of experiences I've had in this game and how many are engraved in my head, I don't think my old account is still up or even usable and I had multiple, but it's just sad to see what it has become, I dropped it right before/around the ubisoft acquisition, the monthly items and strange powercreep/economy that it kind of inflated/ruined, I wasn't a fan, and even though those friends tried to bring me back in at the time I just couldn't do it,
I have never watched your channel before, I dont know your channel or even knew of it at all, yet here I am. I played growtopia when I was very young, it was around a time that all my memories around then are very suppressed. I had fleeting memories of this game yet couldn't figure out the name, and here is your video now. I am so overwhelmed with mixed emotions, this game sucked in retrospect, but man... so many hours sunk into it
I honestly couldn't have said any of this better myself. Growtopia always will hold a somewhat special place in my heart, despite being the way it is. What sucks is that since they changed how you log in, I can't reset my password for some unimaginable reason so I guess my journey with this game is over, even if I haven't played it properly in a few years. I have so many fond but also terrible memories with this game, an account from late 2012 that I haven't been able to access for a few years now, and always wanting to get all those really cool rare items but could never get to anything cuz I was always so naive and trusted any random person I met. But I'll never forget that one friend who just randomly decided to give me access to his world and we built something cool together. I hope he's doing well, cuz he was the only genuine friend I had in this God forsaken game. Thank you for making this video, it was awesome to hear your, albeit very familiar, experience with it and I am glad I'm not the only one who's childhood was ruined because of this game.
hearing the soundtrack on the title card segments brought an even bigger wave of nostalgia few years back I logged on to see what's happening on it, the saddest part was seeing like over a hundred people I had in my friends list all logged off. I could remember atleast a few funny moments or interactions with each of them.
Growtopia was the game that taught me all about the economy and lots of business practices, because of this game. I decided to major in finance, kinda find it funny how a game can have such an impact on someones life
I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHOS CHILDHOOD WAS RUINED BY GROWTOPIA OMG. i got exposed to explicit content at 7 years old and predators and also got scammed so much i wish i never found it
Growtopia had me hooked for so many years as a kid, i'm super thankful for those memories. It surprisingly taught me a good handful of life lessons I still carry around with me. The concept of the game is really amazing but it's a real shame it went to hell as soon as Ubisoft bought it.
i've been playing this god damn game for almost 11 years (the current account i have turns 10 in about a month) the last few months have been just grinding away for the sake of playing the game "singleplayer" and farming because of nostalgia i also started writing down some statistics of stuff i do in the game to keep things a little more interesting for myself, and i'm just passing the time by keeping myself busy in the game the game started declining when ubisoft india came into the picture, but hey, at least the servers aren't so la--nevermind they're laggier than when seth and hamumu were still here lol getting random effects when you join a world with a chance of getting your account *completely wiped and reset back to the tutorial* (or so i've heard), spambots everywhere, casinos ruling the game and being basically the only source of profit nowadays, gambling, indonesians, rich people, we don't have people walking around with cyclopean visors and fairy wings anymore, we don't have people flexing their new legendary dragon or legend-bot, we don't have people saying how good a certain event is anymore, nobody talks anymore (okay maybe some do), it's all about profit profit profit, no longer about making worlds or building connections with people, making friends, etc. like-....TOWNTOPIA has been *DEAD* for almost...2 years? 3 years? EXPLORECITY has been a deserted wasteland for at least 6 years now, nobody even goes to COPANDROBBER anymore, roleplaying in this game is *DEAD*. the few world locks that i have, and the like... mid-single digits of farm worlds that i do have, are keeping me afloat in this ever-inflating economy. sure, it takes months to break through all like 70k laser grids and 30k chandeliers, but the payoff is really nice in the end. i'm even trying new methods of "lazy profit" or "lazy farming", i'm making an atm farm, paying for it purely with gems i make _from the atms_ or from farming those laser grids and chandeliers i even rediscovered i have some high tech blocks and started farming those too for a chance for a kerjigger (which i doubt i'll ever get one lol) but yeah, the game has had its ups and downs, people joined, people left, i still miss the days of phonecatss, shadowsurfer, herovange, etc, the game is different nowadays, but it still holds a very large and inflated place in my heart. i love and hate growtopia, but i just can't stop playing it. sorry for the rambling but yeah those are my two cents on this game.
I just remember making a new account to this game after being inactive for 6+ years and the first thing that happened after I got my account created was I got banned for 300 years, so yeah gt kinda fell off
i quitted 2 years ago just logged in to check whats up with this game, and bro... my 3 digits worlds is worth alot now and most of my items are hella expensive now, even my heartbow is 1dl each! i bought that for 200/350wls iirc back then to decorate my world, now its worth over 200 dls. my friends that still plays that game is now selling dls for real money which is fair ig. ill try to have fun playing it again, probably will quit next week
@@linearnorth1233 i made a decent amount of money selling dls, around 31 usd which is alot in my country helped by my friend. Also bought rayman because yes then i quit
@@linearnorth1233 and yes it is fun to play around, gacha'ing stuff. But if i were to play again as a noob? Nah the grind isnt fun anymore, the game is different now
Fellow long time player here :) In the video you said that the game puts a heavy emphasis on socialising and economy, but in my opinion the social aspect of the game has basically degraded into nonexistence, making the game just a glorified economy simulator. The biggest problem (besides the horrid decadency of the playerbase) has been and is server-side, the servers being unable to withstand the "community", making the gameplay almost unbearable. This game definitely taught a young and innocent me a lesson about communities built on greed instead of trust.
i have to much to say about this game right here man. i started playing in 6th grade when the game was run by seth and hamumu it was pretty fun the community was really active, the world buy and sell was full all the time (with real people not bots) everything was just a good economy. but then down the line ubi got ownership of the game and a whole bunch of people from different continents came in the game, started hacking and stealing peoples accounts. i was still playing the game durring that time and my account didnt get hacked so i thought everything was fine but last year when i was farming my account got hacked, when your hacked devs cant do anything about it and everythings just gone, so yea years of sweat gone. i was just starting to actually get rich in the game which is crazy.. i had like 4 bgls and like 7 more including my fit and some other things worth a lot.
I remember playing GT as early as when the nyan hat existed. The seasonal events were very fun and grinding was pain ( i was lazy before i guess). Then there were giveaways and other stuff. What made me quit was just being unable to keep up with new content popping up, fluctuating economy where I really couldnt get any items that I want (again, too lazy to grind for those af), and also repetitive grin that doesnt end
Went back to the game because of this video and what a THROWBACK, holy crap. I only have like just shy of a BGL's worth of items in my inventory, rotting around. I'm surprised as to how degraded this game is now, but admittedly if Seth and Hamumu didn't sell their game to Ubisoft, I can only assume it could be already worse than the job Ubisoft is putting up. I hope this game gets better in the future..

Yeah that's why when im older and i need to work i don't surprised cuz i know what struggle to get something that you want
Ah yes, the game that developed my sense of economy and my ever growing issue of trust. Great video!

@@applechrisjr5934 thats probably more of a financial issue than trust issue considering its 20 bucks

Definitely same for me
This game taught 12 year old me shrewd economic and business practices with the added bonus of severe trust issues. Yet, this game still holds a special place in my heart.
Could've also mentioned how so damn volatile the market was. There were so many times where I'd be flipping a certain item and not even 12 hours would go by and it would either skyrocket in price or plummet.

I quit due to the incompetency of the dev (Casinos,Hackers,Scam etc etc) Fun game tho, probably the best one if it weren't for all the problems
[Edit 2: I forgot to mention this, but those players that rent a room can get a remote from the Magplant, which is what they need to place a farmable block.]
Players who rent would benefit from gems, while the BFG owners benefit from getting WLs from those players renting a room, and an easier time to amass their farmables, to then make more farm worlds or sell those excess seeds for even more profit. Essentially, GT has also become more corporate than ever before lol. You probably caught up to this, even tho I said all these already, but it might still be worth leaving this for anyone who didn’t.
i remember getting scammed, crying then quitting for 5 times before quitting for good lmao
dude.. SAMMEEE
i got scammed a few times, managed to figure out that in those dropper type games you can actually get profit from them if you fake hesitating to drop a lower tier lock and pick it up fast, they will then give you a wl to gain your trust, here's where you just dip.

growtopia either make you a business man or a gamler.
Both
No scam drop wl
It made me a beggar and a farmer.

I mean "grind for grind" games are fine themselves as long as you understand it as a time spender rather than a second life with responsibilities.
Seediary days...
This game brings out the worst in people for how innocent it looks on the surface,
I at least had a good send off, I donated all my stuff to a random person in a trading world and they looked so happy despite being doubtful at first.
At this point, they already gambled all of ur stuff and quit the game

This game truly was a unique experience no other game gave me, and it was for several reasons.

That is the doom of sandbox games, the feeling of pointlessness.

Thats it

Cult classic that instilled the core values of outscamming the scammer
I remember almost getting manipulated into sending illicit pictures of myself to someone after being friends with them for months, all the way back when i was still in elementary school. This game was awesome.
So THAT'S HOW THE GAME IS CALLED. I remember playing this so much for some reason, that I don't even know.
I remember playing it for a bit and just messed around with my friends for a few minutes, kinda curious to play it again

Every time you hear someone talking about growtopia and actually knowing how to play the game it brings up those certain memories hidden in the back of your brain😢
you're not alone. I remember everyone tryharding this game back in grades 2-4, now im on grade "10"
This game was so silly bruh 😭😭 it makes kids do wild stuff. I'm so sorry to anyone I scammed.
I remember recommending it to others in my class and getting a whole friend group addicted to it, and being scammed later by them(still absolutely upset about losing my first devil wings to them) was the most devastating thing that kind of ruined my irl relationship with them for months at school xD, it's just wild the amount of experiences I've had in this game and how many are engraved in my head, I don't think my old account is still up or even usable and I had multiple, but it's just sad to see what it has become, I dropped it right before/around the ubisoft acquisition, the monthly items and strange powercreep/economy that it kind of inflated/ruined, I wasn't a fan, and even though those friends tried to bring me back in at the time I just couldn't do it,
This game teaches me that gambling is NOT an addiction but an investment
I have never watched your channel before, I dont know your channel or even knew of it at all, yet here I am. I played growtopia when I was very young, it was around a time that all my memories around then are very suppressed.
I remembered playing this as a kid. It was fun
hearing the soundtrack on the title card segments brought an even bigger wave of nostalgia
few years back I logged on to see what's happening on it, the saddest part was seeing like over a hundred people I had in my friends list all logged off. I could remember atleast a few funny moments or interactions with each of them.
The flashbacks I got at 1:43 was so bad I really don’t wanna remember those days 😭
i got literal chills when i heard the music, you've brought back both memories and nightmares from my childhood and i despise you

Ahh yes a classic that I never played again
was very nostalgic to me as i've always played it back then, but will never ever consider going back due to the state of the game now
Growtopia was the game that taught me all about the economy and lots of business practices, because of this game. I decided to major in finance, kinda find it funny how a game can have such an impact on someones life
1:44 When that ptsd hits 😂😂🙏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This godforsaken game and graal were my mandatory character development
I remembered playing this with my brother in 2019. But now this game is so trash because the inflation.
I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHOS CHILDHOOD WAS RUINED BY GROWTOPIA OMG. i got exposed to explicit content at 7 years old and predators and also got scammed so much i wish i never found it
man i hated growtopia now, i feel like its a huge social experiment to test human GREED! Enough is never enough.
Same, I had to quit years ago, it was just not fun anymore, atleast I managed to sell my bgls 😂
Growtopia had me hooked for so many years as a kid, i'm super thankful for those memories. It surprisingly taught me a good handful of life lessons I still carry around with me. The concept of the game is really amazing but it's a real shame it went to hell as soon as Ubisoft bought it.
The game that make me learn about capitalism and The greed of mankind
Wow, I made a video about Growtopia like 3 days ago and today I wake up and see that you made a video about it 2 weeks ago.
Great video btw
i've been playing this god damn game for almost 11 years (the current account i have turns 10 in about a month)
the last few months have been just grinding away for the sake of playing the game "singleplayer" and farming because of nostalgia
i also started writing down some statistics of stuff i do in the game to keep things a little more interesting for myself, and i'm just passing the time by keeping myself busy in the game
the game started declining when ubisoft india came into the picture, but hey, at least the servers aren't so la--nevermind they're laggier than when seth and hamumu were still here lol
getting random effects when you join a world with a chance of getting your account *completely wiped and reset back to the tutorial* (or so i've heard), spambots everywhere, casinos ruling the game and being basically the only source of profit nowadays, gambling, indonesians, rich people, we don't have people walking around with cyclopean visors and fairy wings anymore, we don't have people flexing their new legendary dragon or legend-bot, we don't have people saying how good a certain event is anymore, nobody talks anymore (okay maybe some do), it's all about profit profit profit, no longer about making worlds or building connections with people, making friends, etc. like-....TOWNTOPIA has been *DEAD* for almost...2 years? 3 years?
EXPLORECITY has been a deserted wasteland for at least 6 years now, nobody even goes to COPANDROBBER anymore, roleplaying in this game is *DEAD*.
the few world locks that i have, and the like... mid-single digits of farm worlds that i do have, are keeping me afloat in this ever-inflating economy.
sure, it takes months to break through all like 70k laser grids and 30k chandeliers, but the payoff is really nice in the end.
i'm even trying new methods of "lazy profit" or "lazy farming", i'm making an atm farm, paying for it purely with gems i make _from the atms_ or from farming those laser grids and chandeliers
i even rediscovered i have some high tech blocks and started farming those too for a chance for a kerjigger (which i doubt i'll ever get one lol)
but yeah, the game has had its ups and downs, people joined, people left, i still miss the days of phonecatss, shadowsurfer, herovange, etc, the game is different nowadays, but it still holds a very large and inflated place in my heart.
i love and hate growtopia, but i just can't stop playing it.
sorry for the rambling but yeah those are my two cents on this game.
@@guest-eg3zx it's only fun with friends but then you will grow bored after awhile...
Omg bro pro player
smh noob why sell buystone smh
good edit bro keep up the good work big gangster(w video layout) im glazing
GROWTOPIA VIDEO ESSAY
i have to much to say about this game right here man. i started playing in 6th grade when the game was run by seth and hamumu it was pretty fun the community was really active, the world buy and sell was full all the time (with real people not bots) everything was just a good economy. but then down the line ubi got ownership of the game and a whole bunch of people from different continents came in the game, started hacking and stealing peoples accounts. i was still playing the game durring that time and my account didnt get hacked so i thought everything was fine but last year when i was farming my account got hacked, when your hacked devs cant do anything about it and everythings just gone, so yea years of sweat gone. i was just starting to actually get rich in the game which is crazy.. i had like 4 bgls and like 7 more including my fit and some other things worth a lot.
Great video filled with nostalgia!
no matter how sht the game is, there is always a special place in my heart for it man, so much memories. 😞
Real.
back in like 2013 every boy in the school was ultra hooked, this went on for so many years. Legendary stuff
Punch build grow more like hack scam csn
1:44 Holy damn, that music hit me with nostalgia so much!
0:21 PEAK MENTIONED RRRAAAAAAAAHHHHHH 🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖
You mean valorant or tbc
@@v.a.l9408 tbc ofc
youtube really wants me to watch this
they know i want to forget this game exists
Insane
jimp!
The game that formed part of my childhood, now it's just dog Schnitzel
I miss OG Growtopia so fking much, it was peak, I could play it 18hrs aday rn please
