@AviatorsGarage I believe its steering bar i believe that's what it's called. I live up north (Massachusetts), and originally, I thought it was because of the cold weather. I'm planning on taking it in soon for service to just make sure. The raddle is very short and doesn't last. But I was just wondering.

I have a 22 Tundra, Love it! But yes my new engine will be in next month. Not selling. My 25 Grand Highlander Limited will be delivered next week; for the wife. Buying at sticker price. I've seen some dealerships adding $5,000 to the sticker price. They can't keep them on the lot. In fact, every one that is in transit is sold already, just like Highlanders. We are replacing our 18 Highlander, which has been the best, most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. I'm in Pennsylvania. Great channel/videos! Thanks

Great video, I appreciate you describing things you've experienced with the car. I'm currently in a Honda CRV and looking to upgrade to this so this was helpful to view. I think since this is Toyota's newest flagship vehicle there's some kinks that need to be worked out but I'm hoping the 2025 ones and so on fix these problems so they're not reoccurring. Overall, I'm still looking to buy a Grand Highlander because of Toyota's reliability and safety. A question I have is do you have any issue with the sunshades on the 2nd row windows? I've seen some videos of people saying they get stuck but I'm unsure if that could also be user error or if it's a problem with the vehicle.
Thank you for watching and taking the time and giving me feedback on the video. We have had zero issues with the sunshades. I actually haven’t heard any reports at all of them getting stuck whatsoever. They are definitely a necessity for the baby. But I think it’s a smart move that you’re waiting for 2025. Hopefully all the kinks are worked out, and Toyota keeps their reputation for safety and reliability. They have had some hiccups with the recent generation of vehicles this go around.
@@AviatorsGarage That's great to hear. I have 2 little ones so when I saw the sunshades I loved that Toyota thought of this for people with kids or even just to have for your passengers to be comfortable. I watch lots of car enthusiasts so I've seen them talking about how a-lot of Toyotas recently have had some trouble, but I know that Toyota will fix the issue just as they did with stop-selling the Grand Highlander fixing the issue and then reselling them again. Looking forward to more videos, thanks!

Knowing what you know now about the Grand Highlander, Would you buy it again? Thanks for your videos, I've been looking for a Limited Hybrid and they are hard they are hard to find.
Well, to be honest, that is probably the best question I think I’ve ever been asked. So hindsight being 2020 we definitely needed the space and that’s why we traded in our 2018 Highlander. Our family was growing, so we thought it was the best available option. There are a lot of great things about the car itself, such as the space and the little creature comforts such as the moonroof and the captains chairs that we have. So far, it has been a reliable vehicle as opposed to other Toyota models, such as the new tundra where the engines are failing. The only close option that I understand is offered by Lexus, which is pretty much Toyota, but that comes at a different price point. My wife is happy and overall the long road trips are easier to manage with more space. I think we would buy a grand Highlander again no problem. However, I plan to continue to check in as the mileage increases on the vehicle. If we start having significant problems, then I’m pretty sure my opinion will change. Thank you for the amazing question!
Thanks for the video! I just learned how to turn it on with the key fob cause they didn't show me that in the dealership 😂. We have the Limited trim with Hybrid Max and we just love it! Super quick and stable for a car this big. Max MPG I've reached in Eco mode has been 36.3 (just once cause I jave a very heavy foot 😅). More compliments than complaints so far. I have experienced the black screen glitch sometimes but just when I start the car and it eventually turns on the screen before driving so for me I associate it more like a lag at startup. Only major issue I found so far and in which I filed a warranty claim in November at the delearship was due to rust below my third row and I'm still waiting for Toyota's response. So you may want to check your interiors (I found the rust on mine while taking out the spare tire and it's pretty built up). Other than that, pretty great SUV so far.
I recently traded in my 2019 Acura MDX for a 2024 Grand Highlander. After one month of use, I traded it in for a 2024 Acura MDX. The main reasons were the following: 1. We paid around $52k for the GH. After a while we realized it wasn’t living up to its price tag. The hood wobbles even when stationary in traffic and the car panels all felt very flimsy. 2. The vehicle felt under powered. Coming from a V6, you feel the difference. The GH struggles and is loud from a hard stop. Once you’re in motion, the driving experience improves. 3. Had it been priced closer in the $40k’s, it would feel like a much better deal. Once I traded the GH for the Acura MDX 2024, I immediately felt the difference in going back to a v6. The drive is much more quieter, smoother and upscale. The engine doesn’t struggle to get up to speed. The GH was my first Toyota and overall is a nice vehicle. Hearing the motor struggle for what I paid was the main motivation for trading it in after just one month of ownership. ALSO, I was the 2nd owner of the GH within the year of its release. 🤔

@AviatorsGarage Our current workhorse has been a 2013 Mazda CX5. Bought it as a certified pre-owned in 2015. The only 2 issues we've had with it were the alternator and the AC. Both were covered under the extended warranty.

I have a 2021 Kia Telluride. I have thought about going to the Grand Highlander, but I have held up because of the higher price of the Grand Highlander, and I am not a big fan of Toyota's infotainment software. I have a question about the navigation system. Do you have to pay for a subscription to use the built-in navigation system?
@@jimbrown7082 to my understanding, you do have to pay for the subscription after one year, which is terrible. I obviously don’t pay for that. My wife uses android auto and I use Apple CarPlay with Waze. We don’t use the hotspot either since our phones can handle the hotspot so our six-year-old can watch his iPad while we drive. I’m not a big fan of all these added on subscriptions after you purchased a vehicle. It seems like all the manufacturers copied Tesla. Great question and I appreciate the comment.
I know. We didn’t buy it for big family. Mine is not Grand, just regular Hybrid. We bought it because it’s comfortable for a long trips and day to day drive. Not too big, not too small, reliable and dependable
I'm curious about the remote starter. I think the subscription after the free trial period is a big SCAM. What do you think? I also noticed that when opening/closing the sunroof, there's no one touch operation. That's really annoying holding the button.
@@AwesomeJoe007 yes total scam on remote start Via the Toyota app. We still have remote start via the key fob. We don’t pay the Toyota app subscription. As far as the sun roof- we have to push the button twice for a “full closure”. Yes can be annoying if on the go quick. Great question!
My GHHL 2024 came with a free 3 year subscription. Sure I paid for it - had no choice. Mine came with so many extras that I really didn’t need. But at the time back in June 2024 there was not much choice. And only two weeks later I was notified about recall.
When you go through the car wash and the sensors go crazy and all the cameras pop up…there’s a small icon in the bottom right of the screen that mutes all the sensors until you finish the car wash. We freaked out when it first happened to us! But ever since we found that, no issues

No INCORRECT!!! THE NEW TUNDRA ENGINE IS FAILING. (2022-2025 MODELS). Look at my video again. I said TUNDRA. The grand highlander engines haven't had any engines reporting failure as of yet.
The vehicle is great, but you should trade it in for a Toyota sienna it’ll have more room and if you get a 2023 and down, won’t have the new entertainment system which you won’t run into problems with
@@AviatorsGarage oddly this is on Canada website. looks like gas and hybrid max have all the extra terrain modes but not regular hybrid - All three powertrain options come with three Drive Modes (Sport, Eco, Normal) to make driving more engaging - while Multi-Terrain Select with Three Modes (Mud & Sand, Rock & Dirt, Snow) are offered on the gas and Hybrid MAX powertrains for even more on and off-road capability.
Interesting- giving real facts to other people about our experience has nothing to do with not appreciating the car. My wife loves it. I think it’s great for my family. I’ve worked very hard to afford what I have. Don’t get it twisted.
Based upon your review I have decided against the Grand Highlander since I love the styling except the oversized front grill. Toyota has lost their way which the Honda Pilot with it’s V6 is a better choice. The Cabin Booming is due the lack of sound deadening insulation as a cost savings. I would trade it in for a Pilot before Honda eliminates the V6.
@@TheAutomotiveReview awesome! Enjoy the pilot! Wife loves the grand Highlander over the pilot. Won’t be able to trade it in. But we will do a 15,000 mile update.
I have a 2020 pilot exl with nav and res .I absolutely love my pilot and the pick up on is great .I'm not sure honda will get rid of the v6 they still haven't jumped on the timing chain or port injection or cvt trans for the pilot .which almost all manufacturers have already jumped on the cvt and port injection and timing chains.the 24 25 pilot new engine design the took vtec away but still no cvt or chain .they will lose sales moving away the v6 .
Hello. Thank you for that informative video. Wondering if you can do a video showing the cargo space bedind the second row and compare it with your old Highlander.
One more comment on the cloud based Navigation system in the Toyota, it’s only good for 1yr from purchase date. After one year you will need to subscribe, or it will simply be a blank screen when you select a map. That to me is insane….
The wobbly hood is a 5 minute fix. It’s adjustable under the hood. Literally less than 5minutes. You want to complain about thin panels (lots of makes n models getting this way) it’s due to the cafe standards. Your government at work
I'll try it. I'm not sure that it will do anything for the flexing of the hood at 60 plus MPH since this adjustment is for the front support of the hood. The wobble is in the back position of the hood by the windshield. I have no problem being wrong if it works though. But I will definitely make a video showing the results. Thank you for posting this.
I’d love to see y’all move the captain’s chair with the front forward facing car seat on to access the back… Nobody shows if it’s doable on a pinch to squeeze an adult woman back there without removing the car seat in the middle… 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤷♀️😅
Bought a 22 toyota platnium highlander with the last v6 they made because i didnt want an under powered turbo. It drives like a Lexus. Toyota needs to back to the naturally aspirated v6. Way more reliable and all the power you need.
Totally agree, however the turbo 4 has been around for some time in the Lexus IS models and it’s been very reliable. I’m more concerned about the new transmission (8 speed automatic) than the engine itself. As of now power hasn’t been an issue with turbo 4. However I’m hearing reports of the new gen Tacoma transmission failing and supposedly the grand highlander has the same transmission. I’ll update at 15k mileage. Thanks for the comments.
We’ve put ours in Eco mode and it’s gone up to 21.9. I think if we drove slower, you may actually see you over 23 miles per gallon however on today’s freeways I don’t think that’s possible.
The 4 cylinder was and is a horrible engine choice, it gets bad gas mileage, it's unrefined, it vibrates too much, it sounds awful, and it works too hard to get up to speed, turbos don't last, and I don't want a hybrid, it should have a V6
@@jdm_dude9575 I agree to the V6 but all those 4 cylinder statements are not correct in my opinion. Zero vibration, it’s been around since 2006, it has no sound lol (it’s a 4 cylinder) doesn’t work hard with 8 speed transmission. But yes I didn’t want an untested hybrid either. Thanks for watching.
@ this is not an engine from 2006, this engine has only been around since 2023, and respectfully after driving it and knowing people who own one, it’s a horrible small engine compared to the 3.5 V6, the 2.4 turbo vibration goes up into the steering column and you only get 19 mpg and the engine sounds broken especially when you step on the gas and try to up to freeway speeds, it stresses and works too hard to get up to speed, that turbo is not gonna last, Toyota really dropped the ball, it should at least have the option of the 3.5 V6 like the Lexus TX 550h+
I don’t know what’s going on with your friend’s car but we don’t have any of those problems whatsoever. I do wish there was a V6 option like the 550 but it is what it is. We have more room now. The 8 speed transmission definitely makes up for the power. It does get up and go. It’s really not that big of a deal. If you want to race car, go buy a supra. Then you can complain about the BMW engine in it. And yes, this four-cylinder turbo has been around for quite some time. But you can continue to have your opinion and I appreciate you watching. We are getting 21.9 miles per gallon. So your friend sounds like he needs to take his car in to get it worked done. I bet you they actually like driving it.
This engine has been around since 2010 after I looked and did my research so I spoke for 2006. The turbo four-cylinder has been quite reliable among Lexus and Toyota models so it’s really not that big of a deal now the one engine that is having problems is the twin turbo V6, which isn’t all the tundras and they’re blowing left and right and I will agree to everything you say about the tundra having serious issues. As of now we have 10,000 miles on our grand Highlander and it’s been fine airbag recall key fob recall and I believe there is an update to fix the info entertainment software so it doesn’t do this weird reboot while driving. I’ve had tons of reports from people who drive the hybrid Max and say it’s very powerful so tech technology is changing. I do know from my own experience. I probably will not be buying a new car for myself for a very long time because I believe it is a waste of money however I do want my wife to drive something that she feels comfortable and safe in and the grand Highlander is it. She didn’t want to drive a minivan. What do you do?
@@AviatorsGarage the 2.4 from 2010 is not the same as the 2023 2.4 turbo in the Grand Highlander, it may be based off of it, but the application is pretty different, also the engines are different for the hybrid and non hybrid models the one I’m talking about is the non hybrid, the 2.4 turbo sucks, it’s so unrefined, it may not be slow but the engine sounds stressed to get up to freeway speeds, and you get 21 mpg is not much of a difference between the 19 mpg I got, it’s all in the same ball park, at the point it gets the same mileage as the 4.0 liter V6 from the 4Runner, the 3.5 liter V6 gets about the same if not better mpg, now if we’re talking about the hybrid it has the naturally aspirated 2.5 4 cylinder, and of course that’s quick cause of the electric motors assisting, otherwise the 4 cylinder is an awful small engine to put in a good sized suv that needs a V6
Please feel free to ask questions about our Grand Highlander Experience!

Going through car wash, what do u do with the 360 cameras?
I have the mirrors retract using the button on the driver door panel. The sensors go crazy… I haven’t found a way to turn em off lol.
When you go through the car wash and the sensors go crazy and all the cameras pop up…there’s a small icon in the bottom right of the screen that mutes all the sensors until you finish the car wash. We freaked out when it first happened to us! But ever since we found that, no issues
Thank u
I have the same issue with my car radios RAV4 2022 also
Hopefully there is an update to fix it
I’m curious to see if you mention the reported wobbly hood panel on highway…
@@sw6155 check out my playlist- I’ve mentioned it in a few videos. It’s definitely exists. Not a big deal in my opinion.
As a former Grand Highlander owner, I can confirm that the hood wobbles. Also the panels on the car are very thin and flimsy.
Hold the traction control button for a few seconds and it hould tell u on the dash it's off.
@@dp8935 for?
I agree with you last in early year it’s was happening to me too my 22 tundra Ltd TRD went dark for about 2’ now ok I like Mr Scott K too
Mr Scotty rocks. Wish he did more fixing videos. He’s gotten away from that. Did Toyota do you right with your 22? Thanks for the comment!

Did you ever consider a minivan with children in car seats with strollers to take along? Most people say their wife didn’t want to be seen in a minivan 😅
@@afzalshaikh2128 absolutely- my wife said the same thing!
Isn’t 24 the first year that they made the Grand Highlander?
Correct
Yes dealer
Will do
Price for the 2025 Grand Highlander Limited, Front wheel drive, sunroof, cream-color Interior and Pearl-White Exterior. Also base on your video the 2025 Grand Highlander engine is failing. Can you verify how true? Actually I’m so I interested in getting it. Definitely need your input. Thank you.
No INCORRECT!!! THE NEW TUNDRA ENGINE IS FAILING. (2022-2025 MODELS). Look at my video again. I said TUNDRA. The grand highlander engines haven't had any engines reporting failure as of yet.
I personally would replace the palisade with mazda cx-90. I think i like it even more than the grand highlander.2022 rav 4 owner here.
@@ni4nijustice855 great points, there are definitely a lot of options out there
The vehicle is great, but you should trade it in for a Toyota sienna it’ll have more room and if you get a 2023 and down, won’t have the new entertainment system which you won’t run into problems with
@@channyproduction4879 I love the suggestion, but the wife won’t go for it. She drives it not me.
hmm my limited only has trail instead of snow mode..I prefer snow mode since I'm in Canada but I use trail as my snow mode
@@idubbz interesting. Do you have a 2025?
@@AviatorsGarage nope 2024 limited hybrid.
@ interesting. Must be a Canada thing
Never drove a car that i was unaware of its worth . Must be nice

Thank goodness for apple car play and Waze!
The wobbly hood is a 5 minute fix. It’s adjustable under the hood. Literally less than 5minutes. You want to complain about thin panels (lots of makes n models getting this way) it’s due to the cafe standards. Your government at work
Yep, that’s the truth!
Yes sir no worries
How to fix it?
@@mph1363 th-cam.com/video/oR_M-ZZs2KU/w-d-xo.html
Great idea!
Thanks for the comments.
why are you driving and on your phone 😂
Go pro! You so funny!
#1!
I have 20.8 gas mileage
We’ve put ours in Eco mode and it’s gone up to 21.9. I think if we drove slower, you may actually see you over 23 miles per gallon however on today’s freeways I don’t think that’s possible.
Problems with a Toyota!!!! Never happen
@@markc7274 that’s funny!
