I have the HBF 514 Omron, which is pretty much this model I think. I like the many different features it has all in one, and I think its very handy just for the BMI and weight feature alone, but the muscle percent, fat percent, BMR, metabolic age, and Visceral fat functions are neat as well! I had an earlier Taylor BIA scale and the Omron matched within 2 % body fat of the Taylor scale, 15-16 on the taylor, 16 to 18 % on the Omron. Only draw back is the Omron doesnt give total body water, but that's only a detail some one needs if they are doing 3 or 4 compartment body fat estimation, so not necessary in non academic estimations. The total body fat on Omron can fluctuate a percent or so depending on hydration, but I average 17.5 % on the Omron, and this is within 1 Percent of ALL other methods I have done, when averaged out (i.e. 18 % ). I have taken 7 population BMI equations to predict body fat (Deurnburg, Gallagher, Heritage, Kagawa etc...), 14 circumferential equations, (DoD, Navy, Friedl,Vogel, Hogdon, Waist circ, Neck, Covert Bailey, YMCA, Katch, plus DXA based equations like RFM, BRI, BAI, Lahav etc), & 10 different Caliper based equations, (Jackson & Pollock, Durnin & Womersley, Sloan, Parillo etc) plus a ultrasound scan of my abdominal BF some years back was 19% (total body fat prob less for all regions averaged out). The viscral fat estimation I also find accurate, although I have never had a DEXA scan to compare all these numbers to be fair - but compared to other anthropometric estimates of VAT, such as Univ of Luxemburg's free online calculator, as well as the AVI, VAI equations and the BRI VAT mass estimator, I find the Omron gives a decent ballpark estimate of Visceral adiposity, the hidden fat that can be stored round the gut. Overall 5 out of 5 stars for the Omron. They make good bp machines too.
@@ChrisBassettTV You bet. I'd be interested to see what others found for accuracy, for BF and visceral % Omron BIA method compared to laboratory methods like DEXA ,MRI or Hydrostatic. But it def. averaged out close to all the cheap field methods and equations that exist online and in old books, caliper, anthropometiric, and body mass, and my one time ultrasound.
Touch the /SET button to turn on the power. Press the “down key” to choose between imperial/metric. All symbols appear on the display briefly, then the display changes to “0.0kg”. Wait until 0.0kg appears on the display. NOTE: If you step onto the unit before 0.0 kg appears on the display, an error “Err” will appear.
Thanks for how to use the scale! Just got this model after viewing this Omron scale on 'Shevrin Shares' YT channel : ''I bought 7 body fat scales....this is the best!' You can see how this Omron scale matches up against DEXA (X-ray scan), Body Immersion, Amazon Halo (Camera scan of how fat your gut, bottom is etc...), and Renpro scales and how accurate it is. All the scales were highly inaccurate, compared to DEXA, Halo was next, but for the scales this was the best, was pretty good and seemed to be consistent. Most people don't realise measuring the trend accurately is far more important than the absolute figure being bang on or not.
Hey Kirchner! 1. Lift the hand unit out of the display holder 2. Hold down key a few seconds until “lbs/kg” blinks on display 3. Tap down to select lbs or kg (imperial or metric settings) 4. Press set/mode to confirm the change 😁👍
Hmm… I don’t know if you can calibrate the scale… what I would do if I think the weight is off is take something you know for sure what the weight is (weight lifting plate, dumbbell, gallon of milk) then subtract the difference between actual and calculated weight, then take that number off when you weight yourself. For example gallon of milk weighs 3.78 kilograms but scale says 2 kilograms. Next time you weight yourself add 1.78
Yeah It can be a pain, you’ll have to reset it from the beginning and go through all the steps again… the scale is very particular and if you go out of order it gives that message
For me, it comes down to accuracy and ease use. I like the idea of both upper and lower body electrodes for readings. What I DO NOT WANT is another phone app that I have to use. so sick of everything needing an app to use. thank you for the information, this will be my choice.
Nope. It’s just important to make sure skin is touching metal. So both hands and bare feet. It sends a small electric current through your body from the controller (hands) to the scale (feet)
@@reynacarrasco2139 hey Reyna! I used it with clients when I was personal training at the YMCA. It was a good place for starting measurements as well as at the middle and end of training. I’m sure there are more precise machines but this scale does a good job

I can’t remember exactly but I think it was something along the basic steps.. To change the display from pounds (lbs) to kilograms (kg) on an Omron body weight scale, follow these general steps. Keep in mind that the specific model may vary, so it's advisable to refer to the user manual for your particular scale for precise instructions. Here is a general guideline: 1. **Turn on the Scale**: Step on the scale to turn it on. Most Omron scales automatically activate when you step on them. 2. **Locate the Unit Change Button**: Look for a button on the scale or on its underside. It may be labeled as "Unit," "Mode," or have a similar designation. I believe this was actually in the menu as an option.. 🤔 3. **Change the Unit**: Press the unit change button to toggle between lbs and kg. You might have to hold the button for a few seconds for it to switch, depending on the model. 4. **Check the Display**: After pressing the button, check the display to see if it has changed to kilograms (kg). 5. **Turn Off the Scale**: The scale will usually turn off automatically after a few seconds of inactivity. If these steps do not apply to your specific Omron model, consult the user manual or visit the Omron website for model-specific instructions.
It’s not that detailed. It will only give body fat percentage. It sends an electrical current through your body, then depending on the resistance (higher body fat allows electricity to pass through easier)gives an approximate measurement.
Hey John! Looks like the height settings on the scale are only from 3’4” to 6’6 3/4”…. Looks like you are 2” too tall lol. I’m willing to bet the max height settings should still fairly accurately measure your bmi. 😁
I have my personal training certificate and I tell my clients body fat percentage cutoffs vary based on factors such as age, gender, and fitness level. However, generally, for men, a body fat percentage over 25% is considered high, and for women, a body fat percentage over 32% is considered high. These percentages may vary slightly depending on the source or specific guidelines being used. You can also use a BMI calculator (body mass index) however that doesn’t accurately measure muscle density versus fat mass.

Hey A Y! I think the model in the video can hold two spots (people) in memory…. I can’t remember how to do it though😂
Wil this work out the visceral fat?
It’s not that detailed. It will only give body fat percentage. It sends an electrical current through your body, then depending on the resistance (higher body fat allows electricity to pass through easier)gives an approximate measurement.

Your BMI is 28?! I was expecting 11 or 12. Now I don't feel like a slob 😂
😂😂
Serious downside is it doesn’t work well for people on under 7% body fat. It gives Error 4. “Outside of range,”
Time for a hydrostatic weigh-in 😁
Can it store crypto? Oh no then it's nothing for me
😂😂
I am 18 and my scale is calculating my body age 53 years like 💀
Ouch 😂
BRO NO WAY IT SAYS THAT IM 13 % body fat
😂😂
Hi
😁
Bro this is not accurate measurement
you need BODY FAT CALIPER
😂It’s good enough to ballpark…. Yes, of course caliper is good too but hydrostatic would be best
