He isn't like Bear grills, he's not an adrenaline junkie, he IS a survivor. YES!!!! FINALLY SOMEONE DOES IT!!!!! I did this in middle school as part of a science fair (boiling salt water and condensing it with a tube), and everyone criticized it because there was still a bit of salt in the water so it still wasn’t drinkable (LIES!!!!), and I said you needed to boil it 2 or 3 times to completely eliminate the salt, but they said that it was going to have salt no matter what because the tube collected salt and re-salted the water vapor, and I ended up loosing to some asshole with a stupid rainbow *PLANT!!!!* (Sorry for the outburst. Watching someone prove an idea that everyone laughed at years ago resurfaced some repressed emotions)
Didnt you pretty much just make a distillery? I distill myself and you can totally seperate saltwater with one. Ive done it with tap water and what comes out tastes like bottled water.
@SaltyBrains you would just need to segment the base of the stalk and dip it into different pools of colored water. Its simple but has a flashy result.

No, charcoal filtering will not remove salt from water. Boiling the water once should have been sufficient. He probably had some salt residue on/in his bottle or lips that he could taste as no salt should carry over when it is distilled.
Consider what salt is, NaCl or sodium chloride . Your talking about trying to create a filter that is going to trap One molecule , sodium chloride but let another Molecule, H2O or water, flow easily through. It’s like trying to separate out all the Brown M&Ms from a five pound bag. It’s not impossible to do this, it’s more or less what reverse osmosis is, but to be able to do this using primitive techniques and scavenged materials is impossible we simply lack the ability to hand make a screen with gaps small enough to trap these unwanted particles and allow the drinking water to flow freely
I learned how to make that kind of water desalinator in the Army. There are actually a few different ways to do it. This is the best in my opinion though.
Wouldn't putting black charcoal on your face absorb more light thus heating your skin up more? I could understand making the floor of the raft black so less light is reflected back up but i don't understand putting it on your face
I thought Survivorman do this and then I saw Ed do this and I was like is it possible so I took a big metal drum made the water start boiling and I had a plastic pipe going from the top to my water bottle containers and it worked I could not believe that
You should only need to boil it once as no salt should carry over. He probably had some salt water on the neck of the bottle that he could taste or from his lips or there was a salt residue left inside the bottle he drank from.
anything below sea level would be. If it were a rocky Island that got rain you might find some areas with fresh water. But they would have to be above the storm wave level.
Public "It can filter and remove the salt" Chef "Gimme the salt, is finished, the jar is empty!" People *Pee in the sea* Me "So how do you filter the pee!?"
yeah, a little salt is fine for electrolytes, as long as the water is about the same level of salt as a sports drink pack so around 600mg per 16oz or 500ml should be ok then , Im not an expert but seems like it is true.
Everyone ignores the obvious when it comes to water... leaves. Until you can purify enough potable water, you can inhibit the acceleration of dehydration by chewing leaves. You’d be surprised.

Keep pouring water over the plastic bottles so they don't melt
Ild use sand and a flat ended stick in the hole to drill through
boiling the water and collecting the steam is good but if you're taking the salt out you should add a small bit back in because you need sodium
