Still one of, if not The Greatest opening track on a debut album ever..... 55 years old and still gives me goosebumps. Hard to surpass such a masterpiece....?
It's not really a chord progression more one chord followed by single notes but the intervall is a diminished fifth, which is a tritone or 3 whole tones. Although it goes 1 - 5 - b5. It's also the blues scale. That keeps the regular 5 but adds the flat 5 as a "blue note" so by using both really he is in the blues scale. Tony liked to mix them up too, for instance Electric Funeral is in E minor (aeolian) but when the vocals come in he switches to the blues scale scale with the flat 5 almost similar to Black Sabbath 1-1-1-5-b5-4-3 while Black Sabbath is 1-5-b5-1 in G minor if I remember how to play it. A lot of it is like that mixing aeolian and blues minor scales, the b5 gives it a similar vibe as the b7 in the harmonic minor scale which became super popular in metal.
Ive been trying to learn this solo for over a year now. I can finally play it to speed! I am right handed and broke my hand so I had to re learn to play lefty. Four years now, I use Tony and Alex as my main influences to re learn to play. I figure If I can play thier music I can play anything.
Tony Martin era is underrated, it's finally on Spotify and I remembered that I adored the album. Eternal Idol is also great. 80s Sabbath is underrated especially after Dio. Also loved Born Again. So heavy.
That used to be the lore. "She appeared and was never seen again. So myserious" The photographer, Keith Macmillan was interviewed a while back by Rolling Stone, for the 50th anniversary of the album. He was credited simply as "Keith" in the album liner notes. He was a really young guy doing one of his first professional jobs. She was a model of some sort named Louisa Livingstone. She was 18 or 19 at the time. They did the shoot in the early hours of the day. It was freezing cold. He was throwing dry ice into the water to create the look of mist in the air. Apparently they took a number of photos. I'd like to see the others. He also claimed to have brought a taxidermy crow and a black cat to the shoot, and that in some unused shots, she was holding the black cat in her arms and they tried to get the crow to appear to sit on her shoulder but it didn't work out.
This riff is a piece of history 🤘🎸🤘
The song that defined a huge genre.
A seminal moment in musical history, the birth of heavy metal.
Totally Agree! " Oh Lord Yeah!" As Ozzy says in " WAR PIGS."
Tony is the invention of heavy metal
*Black Sabbath, Tony was a big part of it
Tony, Geezer, Bill. And there was a guy hanging out with them who thought he could sing, turns out he didn't.
@@gab.lab.martins he can sing, I love his voice, it’s what made metal
A great moment in the history of music. Black Sabbath rules!

Tony is a Metal God 🤘💯
Mars by Gustav Holst written in 1914 is the song he's referring to. The specific section starts around 4:20 in the song that inspired the riff.
😎🍁
TONY AWESOME!!!!
The Riff Master at work. And the millions he's come up with since then. Sabbath will always rule.
And Heavy Metal was born!
That Mars piece is really the first metal composition
There is quite a bit of orchestral music that has a metal vibe to it.
And heavy metal/hard rock was created.
I love both of the songs very much, they’re both so intense and moving in my opinion.
The Master Riff of My Favourite Band !!! Cheers to Ton and All The Sabs Members, Past and Present !!! Salud y Vida Pa'lante !!! Cheers and Life On !!!
Sabbath foreverrrrrrr 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

ΕΥΓΕ...
I heard the lady on the album cover was unknown. That true?
She's still alive and well
No, she was a model, the cover was shot in Mapledurham Mill in UK. Still the coolest album cover of all time
