Dir Sir, we are deeply impressed by your wandering rant regarding your cat. (RIP) we were so impressed we would like to invite you for an interview and cover photo for Curmudgeon Magazine.

Excellent tutorial series. Question: why don’t the nails split the wood?

These are very small nails. Only a qiarter inch in length. They go through a one sixteenth inch thick mahogany gusset and only three sixteenth of an inch into the capstrip. They only provide clamping pressure and do not destroy capstrip fibers like staples do. I hope that helps. 🙂🙂

@@19Cub It does, thank you. I’m looking at a Baby Ace project that has both wings damaged by someone cranking down way too hard on the ratchet straps as they were transporting them. I would love to get your expert opinion on them if there was a way to send you some photos.

Dwain: When I built my Corben Jr. Ace, I used little brass brads like those too. Had to hold them with tweezers or needle nose pliers. That got REAL old. The last set of ribs I made, I found a great little Senco stapler that shoots 1/4" staples. I can tack all the gussets on an entire rib in the time it used to take me to drive those dinky little brads before. I know....it's not as "old timey" and authentic but boy, does it work slick !

Makes me wish I had known Baby Cat. I think we were cut from the same bolt of cloth. May he rest in peace.

Dwain, I’m giving you a thumb’s up for two reasons; your story about Baby, which is similar to my story about “Muscles” (a rescue cat), and your political views of Harry Reid & Killary Clinton.

How do you keep the nails on one side from hitting into the nails from the other side? Do you stagger them? I miss baby cat now..thanks

I'm quite impressed with BabyCats political thoughts and involvement.. should've ran for office

Hi talruda, I have never had issues with the nails hitting each other. Those aircraft nails are so small that if they did come in contact it would simply veer off slightly. It just never has been an issue for me and I have built more ribs than you can shake a stick at and I am sure that the chances of nail to nail contact probably occurs every now and then. Great question though. Thanks for watching my friend.

Dwain Marcus thanks for the reply. I didn't know if there was a chance of splitting the cap strips.. I fly a Baby Lakes that I want to recover, I'm watching every building video out there and getting the itch to build something one day!

I'd sneak back in and hit all those joints with a dab on thin super glue after the epoxy sets off. Just some insurance.
