I fully agree......I don't know if this song will excel in a format like Eurovision. It does display what Stien as an artist is capable of. Her strength lies in "telling a story". She did a wonderful version of "De Leven" in Matthijs gaat Door. th-cam.com/video/Nhq1a6YvDhE/w-d-xo.html She succeeds in combining melancholy with hope....
I agree with your observation that it almost sounds English. I'm a native Dutch speaker, so I can understand what she's singing, but if you wouldn't listen to the words and just listen to the sounds, it almost sounds English in a lot of places. Her Dutch is very clear, so it's not like she's mumbling to obscure the language, but there's something about the phrasing and flow of the words that makes it almost English sounding. I don't know if this is done on purpose, since it's meant for an international audience. If so, it's done in a very clever way. It doesn't scream "Dutch". You could write lyrics and sing it in a way that has Dutch written all over and couldn't be anything else. But these lyrics and her delivery flow very smoothly. I think this helps not to alienate the international audience. Anyway, it's a pity not everyone can understand the lyrics. Reading the translation is different. Hearing her sing the words with that voice makes it very emotional. It touches your soul.
English translation The Deep Do you know the feeling That your dreams won't come true Are you ever scared It will always stay the same Because it's raining every day And I can't see anything You and me together, right? That would always be so Here in the deep, I keep hearing your name Oh, my love, what should I do I'm in the deep and I don't want to let you go I'm hiding under the table And I hope that you'll find me I've been waiting all night Oh, I'm acting childish I'm biting my tongue again And I know you do too But god, what else can I do When is it enough Here in the deep, I keep hearing your name Oh, my love, what should I do I'm in the deep and I don't want to let you go No, no, no, no Don't want to let you go Here in the deep, I keep hearing your name Oh, my love, what should I do I'm in the deep and I don't want to let you go 👣
The inspiration came most likely from a Dark place she herself has bin treated for psychoses and depresion thats why her eps were called e Antipsychotica (2017) en Lithium (2018) you can see in the video references and the song is made for all people who need music to help them to similar times.... thats why the dadada and the oooohoe its not only ment to be catchy but it seems to expresing a feeling of controle or losing controle in dark times or when you lose somebody are any other dark feeling. At the representation you could really feel that it was releave with a real emotion that finaly she could sing it.i love personally love songs written from a real experience they feel so real. ps there is a live performance at the moment available :mathijs gaat door is the programnaam on you tube.
She’s going to sing this live tonight for the first time by the way, so I hope you can check that out.

English translation
The Deep
Do you know the feeling
That your dreams won't come true
Are you ever scared
It will always stay the same
Because it's raining every day
And I can't see anything
You and me together, right?
That would always be so
Here in the deep, I keep hearing your name
Oh, my love, what should I do
I'm in the deep and I don't want to let you go
I'm hiding under the table
And I hope that you'll find me
I've been waiting all night
Oh, I'm acting childish
I'm biting my tongue again
And I know you do too
But god, what else can I do
When is it enough
Here in the deep, I keep hearing your name
Oh, my love, what should I do
I'm in the deep and I don't want to let you go
No, no, no, no
Don't want to let you go
Here in the deep, I keep hearing your name
Oh, my love, what should I do
I'm in the deep and I don't want to let you go

So many people dislike the daa- daa and aaahaaa parts so it’s interesting to see you guys didn’t😂
Thank you for your kind reaction.
Well I dont agree Many do like the dada in the song too We will see what it does do
The big majority of the people doing reaction videos seem to like that part. Only a few didn't like it much.
