First of all I am completely sympathized with the parents in their sadness and disappointment of how their dil turned out. However, I blamed the parents for their restlessness and disregard for their own independence and happiness. They should've known that their future dil would not be your average Hmong girl as it was told she did not want to do things in her own parents' home. Let's be honest, the grand child was almost drowned was the fault of the mil. My wife and I have 3 sons and my wife is already sad about not having a daughter whom she could confide with when I am gone. We are already prep for our old ages in that we will not be depend on our sons and their future wives. Typical Hmong parents. My parents wasted so much money on my brothers, my brothers have no respect for them. I resent my parents for refusing to support me in any way, financially or emotionally. They also made it clear they don't want to live with me. Just go live by yourself. This is the new generation of kids. They will leave you on the street (just like how their own kids will do to them also) so you just got to take care of yourself first.
1) Parents choose to support their children. There are no obligations from the kids. If you have a pool, you have to have several built in barriers to safe guard them. As parents, it’s our responsibility to raise our kids to become independent and successful individuals. Not raise them just to take care of us. Yes, EVERYONE should get with the program, not just the old farts! The old parents should live on their own until they can't anymore, and then it's either a nursing home or, for those lucky enough, live with a child who wants to and can take care of them. The sons should pay for their own bride and BOTH bride and groom should pay for their own wedding! The adult children should pay for their own children's daycare (very expensive) and NOT make their parents babysit for free! If the younger generation wants to live like Miskas, then they better get with the program too! It's much more peaceful, less drama, and a nicer experience when families do get together if everyone takes care of their own business, that's for sure. So that means once your 18 parents will no longer care for their kids, kick them out of the house, and no help them with tuition along with offering them money for a house, car, etc? It may be the parents that love and care that they cannot do that to their children and only expect their children to care for them in the end. First of all I am completely sympathized with the parents in their sadness and disappointment of how their dil turned out. However, I blamed the parents for their restlessness and disregard for their own independence and happiness. They should've known that their future dil would not be your average Hmong girl as it was told she did not want to do things in her own parents' home. Let's be honest, the grand child was almost drowned was the fault of the mil. My wife and I have 3 sons and my wife is already sad about not having a daughter whom she could confide with when I am gone. We are already prep for our old ages in that we will not be depend on our sons and their future wives. That said, this story does teach our Hmong community something about growing old with our children. Let them be on their own!

Typical Hmong parents. My parents wasted so much money on my brothers, my brothers have no respect for them. I resent my parents for refusing to support me in any way, financially or emotionally. They also made it clear they don't want to live with me. Just go live by yourself. This is the new generation of kids. They will leave you on the street (just like how their own kids will do to them also) so you just got to take care of yourself first.
1) Parents choose to support their children. There are no obligations from the kids. It’s stupid when you help your children then expect them to owe you for the rest of their lives.
2) Having a pool is a huge liability. If you have a pool, you have to have several built in barriers to safe guard them. And leaving small kids for 30 min unsupervised is a long time.

As parents, it’s our responsibility to raise our kids to become independent and successful individuals. Not raise them just to take care of us. It is our own responsibility to save up and prepare for our retirement, not our children. If we love our children, we will not be such burden. But hey, not all of us know how to think for the sake of our children.
Yes, EVERYONE should get with the program, not just the old farts! The old parents should live on their own until they can't anymore, and then it's either a nursing home or, for those lucky enough, live with a child who wants to and can take care of them. The sons should pay for their own bride and BOTH bride and groom should pay for their own wedding! The adult children should pay for their own children's daycare (very expensive) and NOT make their parents babysit for free! If the younger generation wants to live like Miskas, then they better get with the program too! It's much more peaceful, less drama, and a nicer experience when families do get together if everyone takes care of their own business, that's for sure. I find it ironic and a little sad when many younger Hmong people claim to want to live like Miskas, but they still practice dumping their responsibilities on their parents!
