Oh that's interesting. Wonder if it's any good compared to other higher level recreational methods tho. The best one so far that I found was viewing art which, I tested with a silver grand sculpture. The colonist fills their recreational needs within seconds which is honestly fun to watch.
Great tutorial! A couple of points to add: 1. Concerning the tree radius and meditating, if you're not playing a murder-munchkins scenario and you have enough space in your base to encompass the tree radius, you're better off not building around it. Normal pawns have lots to do, like building a base, researching, and other non-murdery things that Francis's band seems wholly unconcerned with, so you don't want to have your pawns meditating at the tree for grass AND meditating more for psyfocus. You also don't want to deal with their psyfocus meter tripping when they're halfway across the map and interrupting their current job, so it's best to get it done in one sitting (tip: set tribals' psyfocus target well below their usual level). It's also hard to come across enough gold to buy honor without a lot of casket-crashing, so the meditation throne route can take a long time. The anima grass gain rate drops to 50% at 12 hours per day, then to 25% at 24 hours, so unless you have pawns that you want to meditate all day (i.e. the less skilled) you're better off having a bunch of them meditate for 3-4 hours right after breakfast. Then you don't have to worry about picnic crimes, they'll get a rec boost, and they can do some chit chatting. You do waste some time walking, though, so make sure the meditation period is long enough. When you level up casters and want them at 100% 24/7 you can just increase meditation and lower that of non-casters. 2. Landscape around the tree for "beautiful environment" moodlets! Anima trees aren't affected by flooring and torches, so build a path, put out a torch for night owls, plant flowers around it (don't put paths or a growing zone over the tree, though!), and keep it clean. When you put down the frames for paths you'll get a red warning line, but that will disappear when the path is built. 3. Meditation fills the recreation meter but pawns will eventually get bored with it, so you might need an additional rec period if you want that lovely "rec fulfilled" moodlet. 4. Don't count on finding those animus stones as they're as rare as healer mech serum and super expensive. 5. Anima grass is long-lived, but it does have a lifespan, so if you don't accumulate and use it fast enough it will whither. 6. There's a mod for "invisible meditation spots" if you find the neon green hexes vexing.
I would caution against using floors for beauty, because floors can get dirty, and cleaning an anima tree that is far from the base gets time consuming. It can work if you have free time and extra manpower, but IMO you are better off setting up a single high quality statue next to the tree and accepting the negligible psifocus cost in exchange for pawn happiness. Yes, floors grant speed, but unless you have enough spare manpower to dedicated 1-3 pawns to cleaning, it's not worth it. Floors are a late game thing, not a mid game thing. Anima Trees have 0% flammability, so you do NOT need to build firebreaks for them. I learned this just now. Instead of having 2-3 pawns permanently out of commission meditating all day, I prefer to have all paws meditating at the same time for ~2 hours. It keeps all my pawns in the same place so they can help eachother when things go wrong, it guarantees social and meditation recreation early in the day, and it helps sync their internal metabolic clocks. This is less efficient than having just 2-3 pawns meditating for 8 hours because it means there is more total travel time, and it means my base is unguarded for ~4 hours at a time each day, so my method definitely has downsides. What strategy to use depends on preference and how far the anima tree is.
Josh, any details on anima grass lifespan? How long, is it affected by anything (being enclosed, roof), etc.? It seemed to be taking forever to grow in a base in my current playthrough (tree inside a big room), and when I looked more carefully, I was losing 1-2 whole patches a day. The % didn't go down at all, just the overall total. I couldn't figure out why but maybe lifespan is the reason.
@@markhyman4013 You can lose patches if there is a grow zone laid over it and over time if you're not meditating enough (the oldest grass could be decaying). So if you took a break from meditating for a while you could be seeing the oldest grass dying off. The Bestower needs to be delayed long enough to run out of food (stone door maze, obstacles, etc.) If the Bestower makes it back to shuttle, then runs out of food, it is possible for him to die inside the shuttle and tank your empire faction, making any empire on the map immediately attack.

Ah, the animus stones come from trading with tribal villages. I was wondering why I had yet to see any in my game, and none in FJ's current series. But I haven't been trading with tribal factions outside of the occasional caravan that shows up.
One other downside of Anima stones is that if you don't surround your anima tree with protection and place your Anima stones next to them for the bonus modifier, then when you get raiders, the raiders will attempt to break or steal the anima stones assuming that your anima tree is not protected with walls. So anima stones are kinda worthless unless you have protection around your anima tree (which is difficult to do because of the negative psy loss when you build within the anima tree radius.
This is not true. Raiders ignore Anima Stones., it's even mention in the in-game description for the stones. "Since they look like natural objects to unobservant outsiders, raiders will generally ignore them".
if one could implant and harvest normal eyes the ideology route would probably be the fastest in the style of this one woman from elden ring. but since that needs mods and bionic eyes are expensive, the tree is the fastest. also if do this animal insanity trick if you manage to rescue some of them afterwards you have a good chance to end up with more reputation than when you startet.

Meditation counts as recreation, so you effectively replace most their recreation with meditation. It's not a perfect one to one swap. But assuming you keep their bed close to their throne you can cut off a lot of travel time.
If you micro manage it each honour is 26 gold last I checked[it has been a while so may have been increased] but you can keep selling and going back to save a few gold

When the bestower passed out, i install a firefoam popper just inside the room and pop it and rescue the empire's crew. They does not - but everything that comes with it does. Oh I know this happened to me before but I can't remember what I did to fix it. Try removing the allow mod as I'm pretty sure that one causes the issue. Though it may be a setting within it.
@@FrancisJohnYT thanks for the response. I had some other mods on i thought I had removed. I had to start a new game as the last one was knackered after the removal.
Wtf is that thumbnail 🤣
Gonna watch later when I eat but thanks for the rimworld content lately. I'm sure it's hard work so thanks again so much. 😀
Hmm I don’t think the trick works anymore. My bestower always leave due to dangerous temperature. I get a notification of Quest failing and relationship diminishing
What is the relation between psychic sensitivity and psionics? Apparently it helps with heat buildup but I'm not certain.
Psychic sensitivity gives you more neural heat to play with, faster neural heat dissipation and some of the psy abilities affect you more.
@@FrancisJohnYT From the way its worded on wikis I've read I couldn't tell if it meant it would cause more heat or less! So thanks for the confirmation.
Would you mind doing a normal playthrough no challenge Exept 200+ difficulty and blood n dust or losing is fun? I love watching rimworld man
Wouldn't the Bestower dying from heatstroke damage the relationship with the Empire?
Yes, but just rescue them before they die and it ok u can rinse and repeat
They patched it in 1.3.3117
- Empire will now properly respond to player giving the bestower serious heatstroke or hypothermia or allowing it to happen
Not working anymore :( and they drop only 2
5:00 Not sure if still works, but past time i played the best Amount of gold to give them was 51 in exchange for 1 honor
That gives you 3 honor for 153 gold instead of 200
Did it change? If not, consider putting up a note in the video, só people don't give 200 and waste 47 gold
This was patched out last I checked, you have to pay them the full amount now.
you missed the part about how to have everyone with enough psyfocus AND also have a normal base running
Meditation counts as recreation, so you effectively replace most their recreation with meditation. It's not a perfect one to one swap. But assuming you keep their bed close to their throne you can cut off a lot of travel time.
Great video, did they nerf the psy link farming bit tho? I think I recall something about that.
I really should get the royalty DLC
Never waste time if it is something rimworld related... Buy it right away... 😎
@@rhmagalhaes you're not wrong! 👍🏻😂 You know what, I'll treat myself.
I wonder how long till they patch out that neuroformer exploit heh
If you micro manage it each honour is 26 gold last I checked[it has been a while so may have been increased] but you can keep selling and going back to save a few gold
I think the psylink neuroformer bestower farming strat has been nerfed.
I did the same and they turned hostile to me instead.
Weird, did they get burns or get hit by some fire? Did you strip them?
@@FrancisJohnYT Nope, I've managed to get it to work, but around 50% of the time the Empire becomes hostile.
And no, u didn't strip or set them on fire.
@@acheron16 Never happened to me :O
Fun stuff! thank you for your work!
Very handy guide, thank you!
so does this trap still work with the last update?
I have heard that if anything happens to the bestower's the empire classifies it as hostile action, but I have not tested it. So most likely this has been fixed.
@@FrancisJohnYT Thanks man. Also, I love your vids
@@FrancisJohnYT it does work but the bestower only brings 2 neuroformer even though my colonist is a freeholder with count ceremony.
@@andidarmawan565 Ive tried it today and it doesnt work. Error message appears and says "The bestower is leaving due to life-threatening temperature." and you get a relationship penalty with the empire, in my case this was -62. and the guy left
@@bugrilyus yes, their AI became more cautious. The way i did it is building the wall 2 tiles thick, when the bestower is inside the room i 99% build a stone wall to the entrance, throw a molotov toward a pile of wood inside, construct the wall and let them get heatstroke while repairing some of the wall. When the bestower passed out, i install a firefoam popper just inside the room and pop it and rescue the empire's crew.
I used 9 tiles of wood pile, each stack have 150hp regardless of number of wood in a stack so i used 9 wood for 9 different stack, 1 wood each stack.
Does someone know if psylink levels on your pawn are taken into consideration when the strenght of raids is calculated?
They does not - but everything that comes with it does. What I mean is that while psylevels doesn`t add value directly to the pawns, the things you will need to have in order for them to be useful are going to drive it up a lot. Eltex gear, animus stones, high quality statues... Only ascetics are capable of avoiding all of that.
Is this outdated or did you totally forget that art worship has the highest psyfocus possible
Totally did not cover it, all of my experience up to that point was with a single extend playthrough. All tribal so no art focus to play with.
@@FrancisJohnYT oh fair enough man
Great video eh
Good and helpful
Bruh I've never seen a animus stone >:0
I think this no longer works
Man I gotta stop using useful pawns as my wizards. Meditation takes such a long chunk out of their day. They stop doing their work.
That would be my only fear, wasting time on meditation. But if you go with throne meditation and max it out it's not so bad. Nature is just the worst for time wasting. I'm going to have to do some experimentation with art but until you get a legendary statue I don't think it's to good.
9:00 hmmmm interesting
