They formed in 1966 and went on to become one of the top-selling acts of 1967, charting their only five top 40 hits in the U.S. that year.
The Buckinghams play "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy", a jazz song written in 1966 for Cannonball Adderley and which appears on his album Mercy, Mercy, Mercy! Live at "The Club". The song is the title track of the album and became a surprise hit in February 1967.
"Mercy, Mercy, Mercy" has been re-recorded numerous times, most notably by The Buckinghams, who reached number five with the song in August 1967, adding lyrics to the tune.
