So I wield my bike into his garage and he’s working on it and I’m fixing to his house! Barter is the best!I know the 650 R is a way better rig but I’m just getting back into it so I’m content for now! Bad ass bike my friend!
I remember watching a video called tarafarma or summ like that in the late 90s with Mike Metzler and the Metal Militia. They clocked an xr650 like that at 100 mph skippin across the desert. Awesome build man. Congrats on the first start.

Where did you get the petcock rebuild kit and what is the part number? The rubber goes bad quick because of the ethanol in the gas. I actually had pieces of rubber get in the carb and hold the float pin open intermittently. Caused gas to come out of the overflow. Took me a while to figure it out as the gas would pour out sometimes but not all the time.
Just a word of advice, I wouldn't stand on the peg while kick starting it. That is a good way to bend the kickstand tab on the frame and it will fall over. I know many ppl that have had that issue. It's a real shitty situation having to get one welded back on. BTW glad to see yet another Big XR getting sumo's (have an XR600r supermoto myself)

Great vid man, hope you torqued and put loctite on those coil harnass bolts. My brother's Kawi 750 vibrated them loose and now it's sitting dead in the shop. Entire coil ripped to shreds. Becareful bro's, maintain your engine properly and ride safe :)
I have a xrr that is converted into a Baja bike . For a little more hp try s 96-97 xr400 cdi box . It has more advance in the ignition timing curve . Put some vents in the air filter side cover. I have a Hot Cam stage 1 in my bike and it runs good but on a sumo you might want a stage 2.
I had one of these as my first bike! Had a 24L acerbis tank and a stage 5 elka shock with custom spring and redone front forks, mine wasnt a supermoto tho
I've never heard another 650R in person, and the camera never seems to pick up all the engine sounds, but does it have a super noticeable bearing or timing chain noise? Mine has a hell of a rattle to it, but never any change in severity or degradation in performance, so I just figured a loud motor was part of the charm. I'm not a big dude, but my XR is usually two kicks on a cold start, one with full choke to get it's attention, then a second with the choke off to ride off into the sunset.
On the topic of wiring, I have both rewired a motorcycle and built my on PC, and I have to agree. Rewiring a bike is MUCH more simple. I think the main reason people say it's difficult is because there are just so many wires, and I find it's best to pick a spot and just work through it one wire at a time.

I had 2007 converted to supermoto...loved it! Got tired of kick starter after a couple years and sold it. Should have kept it, such a BEAST!

the magnetic drain plug gives you less weight since without magnetic plug u have the oil filter but u can throw it away if u have a magnetic one
