    For a person who doesn’t solely review fountain pens, this was still the best fountain pen review. I like your curation, I’ll check the other stuff, and things!

    For those of us who are not familiar with ink capacities, a typical long ink cartridge will hold about 1ml of ink. The short ones and the convertor will only hold about 1/2 ml . So we are talking about a pen that can hold the equivalent of two long plus one short ink cartridges. That is amazing. You have a very original style of pen review. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

    This is one of the most elaborate reviews of the Pilot Custom 823. Great job!
    Your concerns about stripping the threads of the blind cap are legitimate and something people should be aware of - especially if they disassemble their pens.
    A metal TWSBI wrench can bend the threads of the plunger, creating sharp edges that'll wear down the blind cap threads pretty fast.

    Great review of the 823, best in class - thank you! After spending a couple years on the proverbial fence, I came across a deal I couldn't pass up - I'm stoked to be receiving this exact pen tomorrow.

    This review stand up to the rest of time. 2022 and there is still correct and helpful as I unboxed my Amber 823. A lot of tips and advice about filler. I have a few Custom 74’, but so glad I bought this. I’ll have to clean and store my Lamy Studios, 2000,Twsbi’s and even my Pelikan-this pen is my Holy Grail.

    If you want to feel the paper with your nib, try Sailor nibs. They're really smooth but offer a nice feedback so that you feel the paper. I can't really describe it.

    I really like your reviews and i'm happy to see that people still find joy in the art of handwriting! just one little critique: I often find myself having to skip parts of the video because you keep repeating things you already said. like you told us far too often in which colors the pen comes, how many ml of ink it can hold etc. Don't get me wrong, it is very useful information but I think it would make the videos more enjoyable if you cut out some of the redundancies.

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube
      @stuffandthingsyoutube  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some people have horrible attention spans, so it helps to repeat important information, but I'll keep your critique in mind.

    I have it in Smoke too, which is now available in US. I got a good price, from a US seller, because I bought 2 other pens. I’m still on the fence with the vac fill, I’m just not used to it. I do love the way this pen writes...but I’m finding it requires more lubricated inks. I’ve tried a few Diamine inks in it, and it’s too dry for my taste with them. So far I’ve had the best performance with the blue ink that came with it, and the inks from the Pilot Iroshizuku line.

    Wonderful review, thanks a lot! I am still trying to resist to buy this pen, currently 2nd on my wish list after Visconti Homo Sapiens dark age. I feel this 823 to be a lot more maniable than the Montblanc 149, I use one, it is an astonishing pen don't get me wrong, perfect as a signing pen but a little too chunky to write for any length of time, in my opinion at least.

    Hi Bradley, I have enjoyed your videos much more than review made by some "professional fountain pen reviewers ( guys that reviews only fp's ) " here on yt hehe. You have a quite good handwritting, I think you could improve it just by using a more finer ( japanese ) nib and a bit drier too. Smooth nibs are " fake friends " as we say in french. Finer nibs will give you more feedback but much more control too, it will help you to shape your lowercase letters with more precision. Try a Sailor Sapporo or a Pilot Custom 74 , both have 14k gold nibs and are relatively cheap. ( around 65 $ ) ;) But if you don't want spend that much just pick up a Pilot Prera. ;)

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube

    Hello: I love you video, I am a calligrapher and I have around 6 pens like yours, I learn to write with this pens, calligraphy in my school was a subject, I remember when I was in 3rd grade I had a Parker Fountain Pen, and I had to take the ink the same like the one you have in your video .
    Have a great day....

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube
      @stuffandthingsyoutube  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's so cool that you used fountain pens in school! The pen you used must have been a Parker Vacumatic.

    • @vielkahelenprincesseboli4383
      @vielkahelenprincesseboli4383 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vielka Helen Princess Eboli To tell you the truth maybe that was the Parker Vacumatic , I do not remember well because that was a long time ago, but I can not write if I don't have my fountain pens, and besides those pens, I have a collection of calligraphy, because some time I do weeding cards and anniversary cards with my calligraphy,the sad part of this is, with the technology, people do not need a person to do calligraphy, they only print the invitations and thats it...
      Well, happy talking to you ....
      I like a lot yours videos....

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube

    Hey Bradley! I'm trying to decide between a Fine or Medium nib 823. I've seen that the Fine makes an extremely thin line, perhaps a bit too fine for a pleasurable writing experience. According to your writing sample, the medium looks perfect, but that's on Rhodia paper. How does this pen perform on cheap copy/everyday notebook paper? Does the line expand and bleed out/feather a lot?

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube
      @stuffandthingsyoutube  9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Phillip Haddad - It doesn't do well on cheap paper, but none of my pens do except for the few extra-fines in my collection. The Pilot Fine is very close to a Western extra-fine, so if you want to be able to write on copy-paper, that's what I'd suggest.
      Thanks for watching!

    Bradley, I love your amp stand! It's awesome! It's neat and compact. A lot more compact than mine. I just discovered your channel and was wondering if you smoke cigars, particularly Cuban cigars? I too collect fountain pens, actually I own a large collection of expensive ones, and a vast collection of knock off ones, of which many write even better than the "real" ones. I just realize we have a lot in common (I too love journals/agenda, guitars, cigars). Look forward to seeing more of your vids! Ciao!

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube
      @stuffandthingsyoutube  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      mibello aleman - Thanks for watching! I've smoked cigars, but I do it very rarely. I've never had a Cuban, but perhaps they'll be getting easier to find in the US now.

    • @mibelloaleman
      @mibelloaleman 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome! Yeah, I have true Cuban cigars that someone brought back from the Dominican Republic that were the authentic Cuban cigars (DR can purchase Cuban cigars) and there's nothing quite like - the best! But if USA/ Cuban relations go well, we may be able to buy them in the US (I hope since I'm down to my last 6 cigars out of 150). So, I hope that you can try one one day. Ciao!

    Hi there Bradley. You are a really good pen reviewer! Please do more. I have 2 questions. One for this Pilot and another for the Lamy. [1] Have you tried removing the little "travel gasket" on the Pilot plunger? It eliminates the need to unscrew by ~2mm or so and have constant flow. I did this with my Vac700 TWSBI and had no leakage issues when flying. [2] Is your Lamy the Makrolon material? Thanks.

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube
      @stuffandthingsyoutube  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Greg Siragusa - I think I mentioned the gasket in the video, but no, I haven't removed it yet. I may at some point in the future, but for now, I don't mind unscrewing the blind cap. My Lamy is the makrolon version. Thanks for watching!

    Over 200? I'll stick with my kaweco. I'm not poor by any stretch of the imagination but it seems a little unnecessary to spend 215 to 280 dollars on a pen.
