i recently tried drawing in the og mac paint and i wouldnt call the result great especially since it got me banned from tumblr because of an automated system misidentifying it as something illegal lol
but it was still recognisably my style and i hope law enforcement enjoyed looking at a super low res doodle of one of my ocs
i consider substandard tools more of a way to learn than a way to show off since after that i ended up greatly improving my shading

It came out really good for just using kid pix, I remember trying to use that when I was little and being so frustrated, but it was fun.

This is maybe an odd suggestion, but I would like to see you take a stab at making a tileset for RPG Maker? Or maybe just a tileset for a hypothetical but non-existent game in general? I realize that spriting isn't really a different medium from digital drawing perse, but rather just a very non-traditional goal for the end product that (usually) suggests a particular set of constraints. But nonetheless, I think it would be intriguing to see you take a crack at it if you ever felt like it.
Regarding your assertion to certain media having certain strength and weaknesses - I would like to offer an alternative means of framing I picked up from a book, which I will cite. The means of framing from the book proposes that we ought to think of all media as being akin to materials with affordances. In the same way you can work with or against the grain of wood when carving it, so too could you work with or against the specific attributes of video games or movies or acrylics or kid pix. These affordances might suggest that we do one thing or another with the material, and it is very possible that we could make something weak and splintery by working against the grain, but there's nothing to suggest that we absolutely shouldn't, or that there's objective value to going with or against an affordance. So it's the same general idea you get from framing it in terms of strength and weakness, but I prefer it because it's a more specific metaphor, and because it does less to suggest any idea of an 'optimal' choice.
(The book is Writing for Games: Theory and Practice by Hannah Nicklin. The specific section I got this from is "Games Are Not Special," on page 11. Highly recommend you read it, if only because she explains this idea much better than I do!)

wonder what you could do with a later version of kid pix? i had kid pix 3d on the primary school computers growing up and i remember the tools being pretty zany. would definitely provide more options to work with and work out how to utilize
