I once fell asleep while driving down a highway at 19 y o, woke up about 30 feet from a pickup truck braking in front of me. Parked at the nearest wallmart parking lot and slept for 3 hours before finishing my drive. Never again have I gotten behind the wheel if I felt tired.

Starting school later will not help. Kids will simply go to bed later. Instead - encourage folks to go to bed earlier.
Once of the worst sleep periods I had was just after getting out of the Army in 1968. I took a job as a computer operator for a large company. Operators worked rotating shifts: Week one was 8AM to 4:30PM, The next week was 4:00PM to 00:30AM, Third week was Midnight to 8:30AM. The fourth week was 'garbage' week where all three shifts were mixed. It was a very difficult thing to do.

On the Bay Bridge accident, was the driver tested for alcohol?
