    Congrats on the little one!
    Glad to see you back. Great video, thanks for putting your own twist on it. Always appreciate you taking the time to work through the problems, especially so others can stand on the shoulders of giant(s)!

    I agitated my nickel solution and it helped with keeping stuff uniform across the part…

      A great idea. I was debating throwing a few bubble stones in the bottom at some point to help keep things moving.

      I use a small fish tank air pump. Works perfectly

      Use a Heating/Stir machine , I got mine on Amazon for $35
      I use Beaker’s 500ml & that fits on hot plate area of machine, & a small magnetic capsule goes in the bottom of you solution. You can adjust your stir/agitation levels to your needs . As well as the temperature.

    Making my solution with 5% acidic white vinegar with or without salt and it only turns cloudy. Afterwards the green cloud settles on the bottom of the container. Any idea what I’m doing wrong?

    On bend lines for lasers I've found using a dashed or dotted line works well

      Nice, once I'm happy with the alignment I'll give it a whirl!

    Can I remove nickel without using electricity?

  • @samrodian919
    @samrodian919 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I stopped at 9.56. I'm not sure you realise it but you can strip the plating off of your pen 100 by putting into the plating solution and reversing the polarity, thus removing the plating from the item. Clean it back up to pre plating condition and do it again, hopefully with no imperfections. Hope this helps!

      Thanks! I actually did that a few times with that specific pen but still couldn't get a reliable bond (pretty sure it was before I discovered adding the copper plate before the nickel). That's basically how I 'electro clean' the parts, it's just reverse plating at a much higher current. None the less hopefully your comment helps someone else in the future having the same issue!

  • @minigpracing3068

    A couple things... The copper plate is generally a high fill plating so it can fill in some scratches. You should have more nickel electrodes in your solution, you may be getting shadowing on the far side of the parts. And finally, if you are anodizing aluminum, apparently nickel acetate can be used to seal the anodized layer, I need to read up more on this since I've only used steam or boiling to seal parts.

    Can you electroplate onto aluminum

    I just paused your video for a suggestion. As far as crease lines, you could 3d print a positive and negative mold that would crease all the fold points by a few degrees, not needing to score or even laser the creases. Think sheet metal press.

    • @CurtVanFilipowski
      @CurtVanFilipowski  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I like that idea...actually found out that custom card making people use weird ridged trays to keep their fold lines parallel...might have to bastardized a bit from both! I think your press idea would be the fastest.

    I am surprised you are not using sulphuric acid instead of vinegar? Have you tried it?

    • @CurtVanFilipowski
      @CurtVanFilipowski  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't, but if I do more of these in the future I will see how it compares!

    Hey Curt, very off topic but I was watching one of your older videos and noticed the roof seemed to be insulated. I am in a shed in south AL and even with 5000 BTU AC running 24-7 I cannot keep it cool after 10-11 am. You seem to be the man with a plan, any insights?

    • @CurtVanFilipowski
      @CurtVanFilipowski  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No idea, but 5K is a pretty low BTU output for a garage (unless your shop is 10x10). I'm using about 25000 BTU to heat my space in the depths of winter (which is 20x20).

    I enjoyed your video. Interesting process you went through to arrive at the results. One suggestion for future videos. Speak much slower. I had to constantly stop video and use cc to understand what you were saying. I look forward to your future videos.

    IF you fuck-up your Nickel plating - reverse the process to remove the Nickel plating and start over.
