  • How to replace the CMOS/RTC button cell in the HP Elitebook 2170p notebook.
It's nice to see a regular CR2032 button cell being used without special connectors. It's also nice that you can download the maintenance and service manual (filename: c03387961.pdf) from the HP website. TH-cam doesn't allow me yet to provide the link here.
You might be wondering why the title says "fast method" when the video is 15 minutes long. It's because if you follow the maintenance manual you'd also be removing the keyboard, audio board, speakers, power switch board and fully remove the base enclosure, WLAN module and WWAN module.

Danke. 🙏 beste Grüße. 🖖

Translation of your question (I can read German but not write very well): the guide worked for you but didn't solve your problem. You have the same model. When you turn it on you see the light for the keyboard briefly and then the fan runs permanently. I assume this machine isn't booting up and nothing is shown on screen. These symptoms do not indicate a clear cause. The fan running permanently indicates that the machine isn't booting. So it's probably not a display issue. Some laptops can seem stuck after a system change but just take really long, I've seen a laptop needing half a minute to display anything after a memory upgrade. So be patient. There are mini-pcie diagnostic cards, but the 2170p doesn't seem to support them: mine only ever shows 0. I tested my 2170p without memory: it blinks caps lock and num lock 3 times quickly and repeats this 5 times for 15 blinks total. Around the 6th blink the fan starts running. After the 15th blink the fan continues to run but nothing else happens. You can remove everything you don't strictly need: wireless cards, storage, battery to see if that makes any difference. If there is an issue with the center "smart" pin on the power supply, that could perhaps cause problems. If you have a working battery or alternative power supply, try those instead of the original power supply. But it's likely a motherboard issue, either a hardware defect or BIOS update gone wrong.

Hello @Alexis fixes I have an elitebook 2170p that doesn't power on, ND also doesn't charge when connected to power. I took it to a technician, he fixed it ND it worked for awhile, then stop, now they said it's the power ic. The laptop just sits, can you help?

What does "ND" stand for? If the technician is right and an IC is damaged it gets complicated. A replacement IC may be expensive/difficult to source and replacing an IC in a laptop requires specific skills/equipment depending on the IC package. Unless you are capable of doing the replacement yourself, oftentimes it's economically more sensible to replace the entire motherboard. Or to buy a new (/second-hand) laptop.
