This performance hit me emotionally too for the same reasons. I looked up from the inset performance video and saw that the lovely lady watching with me and myself were both almost in tears at the same time. Very emotional performance. Heart was perfection on this. And seeing the emotion and the memories behind Robert Plant's eyes..... Wow. Just wow.

Regarding Led Zeppelin's originality or not: throughout the ages, especially with blues, but also in folk and many other genres - songs were past on to others, year after year, rarely with credit to the previous. It was just the way of passing songs on to the next generation. In modern times, certainly every band has borrowed from what came before. But also, certainly credit should be given. The young and brash Zeppelin rarely gave credit, but later they did. But in any case, Led Zeppelin always made it there own and brought the songs that were passed down through the ages, to a new level - a level that no one else could have done. And by doing so, they brought attention to the originals from 50 or 100 years ago, that would have been lost to history. They indeed were the greatest rock band in history.

He hates Led Zeppelin? I think he may have to sleep on the couch for a while till he comes to his senses. Ann & Nancy were heavily influenced by Zeppelin and it shows in some of their original music. They've covered a number of Led Zeppelin songs over the years, I actually saw them in 1977 and they did "Rock n Roll" during the encore. It was the day Elvis Presley died and they dedictaed it to him. Ann Wilson has such a powerful voice and it lends well to this song. I've watched this version a number of times and I choke up everytime, especially at the end when Jason Bonham, his father John was the band's drummer who passed away in 1980 I believe, looked up to Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones.

This tribute makes me tear up, too...but not for the same reasons as you. Plant in particular is, IMO, genuinely touched by a great tribute from artists they know and respect and who are clearly taking the music very seriously and respectfully, and also by the fact that the late John Bonham's son is playing drums in his father's place, wearing a hat like his father wore, and the choir wearing the same hats in honour of John Bonham. It was a very classy tribute and a great honour, and it chokes me up every time.

Well, the band was not thinking that actually. They were watching a dear friend give one of the most powerful tributes to their life works. They were well aware of her vocal chords. Back in the 70's she was hands down (in my opinion) one of the best female singers on earth. The girl could WAIL!!! Here is some proof: th-cam.com/video/PeMvMNpvB5M/w-d-xo.html
Of course, Robert Plant also had a pretty good set of pipes. You mentioned his sad face, it could be a bit of sadness there because he was watching their original drummers son play the drums for this song. The band didn't know Jason Bonham would be in attendance. He surprised them by showing up to play this song. Amazing tribute!

@@IYOU Yes, Jolene is right, there are other vidoes of this with different camera angles during the show and you see the tears welling up in Robert Plants eyes while he's watching. Led Zep always appreciated Heart for the respect they gave their songs, also from what I believe, Jason Bonham told the band he couldn't make the event but he surprised them by appearing wearing his dads hat. Robert and John Bonham were close and so Robert wasclose to his best friends son Jason, he must have been feeling so much pride that night. Also, brilliant performance and arrangement by Heart.

The only people who call it “stealing” don’t understand the history and context of blues music. Covering music and referencing other work is a long time blues tradition. Blues music goes beyond lyricism, it’s about feel and what you bring to it, which is why the original blues artists themselves handed songs down each generation. Virtually all of the British blues-rock bands of the late 60s (Cream, Hendrix, Stones, Peter Green’s FM, Bluesbreakers, etc.) covered material and yes, sometimes without giving credit. Even the second wave blues greats like BB King, Albert King, and Muddy Waters covered music from first wave greats (yes, sometimes without crediting). They weren’t “stealing” they were paying homage to their influences. In the end, out of Led Zeppelin’s 90 studio recorded tracks, only 10 are covers or have referenced material (far less than some of their contemporaries) and all of which has been credited since the late 80s with back proceeds given to original artists. Lastly, music copyrights were almost nonexistent prior to the 90s, LZ gets vilified for doing what everyone did only because of the proportion of royalties.

If only the not needed back up singers had vanished, then Ann ripping this to pieces would of been fully appreciated , as it has been for 40 years. There is a reason Hearts sisters were chosen to do this, they have been grooving Zep Live for those 40 years with the complete agreement of Zep. You need to find their renditions from the Late 70's on.

The charge that Led Zeppelin based some of their songs on blues classics without originally giving any kind of songwriting credit to others is true. The charge that they "just ripped off other people's songs" is ludicrous. I would ask people to listen to something like the Blind Willie Johnson version of "In My Time of Dying" and then the Zeppelin version. The level of musicianship in just their arrangement of that is world class. Or Muddy Waters' "You Need Love" and then "Whole Lotta Love". It's kinda hard to argue that those two are even the same song...

You need to watch Led Zep do this live back in their heyday....
This performance is most excellent and I get tears in my eyes watching it...
"BUT", Zeppelin live in their heyday is "Supernatural".....
It's beyond words, belief, and description.....
I guess the word is "Incomprehensible"...
    That...is Zeppelin live..."Incomprehensible".....

lol i didn't realize that was you singing at first. I was thinking. Who is doing the back up vocals? lol Until you spoke, I had no idea. You should give Pink Floyd's Great Gig in the Sky a shot. Not listening to it but singing it. Think about it...lol
