What on earth is Damian doing owning this weird quirky orange and blue IWC? It makes absolutely no sense! It’s not a collectible or rare watch. It’s bulky, basic and garish. But for some reason, it holds a special place in his heart. And it’s got nothing to do with its ecological credentials.
The Ingenieur Mission Earth ‘Plastiki” was built to celebrate an innovative boat made from plastic inflated bottles that crossed the Pacific from San Francisco to Syndey in 2010. It’s not a well-known model, in fact almost no-one knows what it is. But that just makes it more interesting - and boy does this watch have a story.
So join TheWatchGuys this week as we look at the history of IWC and the Ingenieur, and discover why this watch is in the collection, what’s special about it, and whether it’s a keeper. And it’s not just another Rolex or Patek. So that’s something.

Another watch, I now 'Need' - absolutely love this one. Great vid as always Damian!
Just bought the IWC Big Ingenieur 7-Days in mint condition. These, with your,s are the last excellent IWC's.
When people start realising that GG did the redesign of the IWC ingenieur, that watch is going to the moon!
I have the ingenieur 46mm mission earth on the bracelet, what a piece it is, you certainly know its on
Everyone was upset at me when I added an IWC to my collection, they said it was an insignificant brand that would not retain its value…… Now I can show them your video and validate my purchase by saying”watch connoisseurs buy IWC watches!”Great video!thanks again
Another great episode Damian, really appreciate the time and effort it must take to create such a comprehensive review of one of your watches . This is a stunning piece , love the blue and orange combo 👌🏻
Thanks, Terry
great watch. Wish IWC would relaunch the Ingenieur line with integrated bracelet again.
Big IWC fan, don't own one currently but had an aqua timer a few years back that I've always regretted selling.
Thanks for highlighting the Inge. I own a 3227 Ingenieur and I think they are underrated and great value. Always feels special putting it on my wrist!
Yes, something completely different. Blue and orange do not appeal to me and this one is no exception. Thank you for sharing. You certainly have a wide-ranging collection.
I own an “Aquatimer 2000” in the collection… love it, my low profile favorite beach piece
Thanks for this upload really nice design and color combi
Hmm, another watch for my wish list. I remember looking at a different Ingenieur at Tourneau many years ago, but this blue/orange combination is the nicest one I've seen.
There is a guy nearby that is selling a 46mm plastiki white dial. I am really tempted although the 5k figure is enormous for my standards. So I am going video after video trying to convince myself to buy it, or not. In reality I wanted a more down to earth price wise Ingeniuer AMG but these have really gone up. On the other hand the Plastiki is readily available almost nearby and it looks great. The new Ingenieur is 10k+ which means that the older models are not a bad deal at half or 1/3 of the price. Unfortunately I can't try before I buy and I am wondering how enormous it would look on my wrist given that I normal wear 39m-42mm watches (e.g. anything from a Speedmaster Automatic to a Breitling Colt GMT). Decisions... !!
You are right about the blue and orange, I love it……
Really enjoy this off piste watches. Anyone can buy Rolex’s and Patel’s but nice to see something different.
Liked this episode and the IWC but the wrist watch check did steal the show for me personally.
Great Video, great content! I'm currently on the fence of getting the Mission Earth more common black dial. Thanks for this informative video.
Great vlog great watch nice story. Enjoy
Hit another out of the park! Great story and episode. I get what you mean about the watch. It’s story while very cool. There is just something about it. I love it. The more I look at it , the more I like it. I hope you get to enjoy it for a very long time. All the best !
Glad you liked it, Seth
That’s a great looking watch, not really an IWC fan but I would wear that
It's great looking at such an amazing collection, but I'm glad you're sharing some of your more attainable pieces too.
Cheers, Craig
@@TheWatchGuysTV Thoughts on the Tissot PRX powermatic 80?
Just got myself a IWC pilot Chronograph. Lots of detail. Dress up or down. So far so good
Good taste in watches. Happy new year😎
Thanks, you too!
Fantastique cool looking watch
You must have a huge collection Damian . What I like is you definitely buy what you like even if this isn’t conformist . Popular unpopular who cares its about watches that capture the imagination and interest you and that’s how it should be .
Another interesting video Damian!👍 Stunning looking watch! Makes the AP look rather dull imo.
Who doesn't like orange and blue? It certainly stands out. Be wary of the rubber straps over time. They can simply break without any signs of wear. Almost lost my AP that way.
Big IWC fan. I have an (inexpensive IWC pilots chrono) which is oft worn. It’s a brand I’ll look at again.
As a new watch collector, these videos are great. I find myself becoming more interested in the history and stories behind the watches. Thanks Damon.
♥w♥o♥w♥!!! This channel desperately needs Promo'SM!!!
Fucking horrible looking junk, mind you, yapping about Rolex all the time does get a bit repetitive.
Lovely to have your intelligent balanced view, Geoff.
