Agreed, I'm not a Russian or Putin apologist, but I'm in full agreement with Sachs/ Mearsheimer as a fairly educated person. I think any seriously educated person with some understanding of history and the ability to consider complex issues, would not view this as a one-sided hostile Russia Aggression issue (as the Wester media portrays it).

The American University speech was indeed a luminous high point in foreign policy addresses by a US president, and JFK's ability to negotiate the presence of warmongers around him was of critical importance then and has volumes to teach us now. Thank you for mentioning Vasili Arkhipov, a hero indeed.

As a German, I was and am closer to the crises and events than the average US citizen and will continue to be in the future. After all, Ukraine is in Europe.

It may prove that the real reason for those two countries to join NATO has less to do with the fear of Russia attacking their own territory than - what is evident if you look at a map: surround Russia with a string of states that can be counted upon to be hostile to Russia in case of full scale war.
And that is not promoted by Finland or Sweden but concocted somewhere else.
