people do in fact take alliances seriously. in fact sometimes ill completely throw a game for my ally by attacking a big guy attacking them or ill give them my land even if im winning. just for added fun

I hate when people break their alliances for no reason. Although, sometimes I have myself broken alliances for my own gain, but I've also been in the situation where I illogically sacrificed myself for my ally, so I feel you. 😂😂

i actually prefer the full send game mode my self because it goes a lot faster. in this you have to sit there forever while no one does anything and then you get ganged up on despite being bigger. with full send on people will just give up and you can easily take em out and grow. idk full send is just faster

Fullsend gamemode favors the extremely large players. The large players because smaller players will fullsend them instead of fighting them with others which allows the biggies to expand quicker.
Fullsend favors the somewhat small players because the average /slightly above avg players can get their game ruined if they attack a small but well fortified fullsender. Deterrence.
This becomes a game of "how can I exploit everyone's fullsends to quickly gain land and troops?"
Non Fullsending favors the middle of the pack. The upper sized players are naturally ganged up on and removed by alliances. The smaller players are also pushed out fairly quickly. This turns into a giant strategy game of "how large can I get without everyone toppling me?"
Both are very strategic and fun. I think fullsends win honestly because most of the non-fullsending traits happen anyways in late game, while adding some extra strategy at the beginning. Non Fullsending can occasionally turn dull because it stalls out: 3-4 people stuck in a position if they attack first the other 2-3 gang up and lose.

Taking alliances seriously reinforces their value the same way that the crown fullsending reinforces their security. Some percentage of people need to do stuff like this for people to consider those risks before they act which is how these "mechanics" work. Though it does also happen to incentivize just not taking alliances
