To anyone job hunting in Germany, don’t let negative comments discourage you. As a tech recruiter who moved here from South Africa in 2019, I want to share a perspective: being single doesn’t mean you have to settle for just any offer, and the same goes for job opportunities. Facing rejection doesn’t mean there are no jobs out there; it just means the fit wasn’t right. Just as people have preferences in dating, companies also have specific requirements for who they hire. I reject many candidates every day, often because they don’t meet the job criteria, don’t align with the company culture, or don’t know how to present their strengths. Many candidates, including German applicants, simply apply to roles that don’t suit them, and like dating, job hunting is a two-way street. If you send out 100 applications without understanding the role or the company, you’ll get very good at getting rejection. You do not need a Phd to understand this. On one hand landing a job in Germany isn’t easy, which is why YT channels like this one can offer helpful insights to achieve your goals. On the other one, German companies also need to improve in a lot of areas... so ask yourself honestly: is Germany the right fit for you? If you can’t handle rejection from recruiters (or honest feedback) and adapt to the job market here, it may be tough to succeed. But remember, there are 194 other countries where you can try your luck as well. Just as finding the right partner takes time and effort, so does finding the right job. So learn from Jen and Yvonne and keep it up :)

I am in germany and the biggest barrier is German language. I recently graduated and I can confidently say that over 70% of the jobs that are even technical and non-customer facing thus far are requesting for C1/fließend. While similar titled roles even in the same company are ok with English in the Netherlands branch. Much recently I saw a job that outright stated (not on job seekers visa).I am starting to wonder if this is an attempt to push people out of the country.

I shifted to Germany two months back for my master's. I have three years of work experience with NodeJs and Golang at two different good startups in India. I also know ReactJs and have done an internship in the same. I have been applying to work student jobs for the last month and have only had one interview. I applied to about 60 companies with no luck so far. One of the reasons I could think of is me not knowing German. But, besides this, I can't think of anything else as to why anyone wouldn't want to hire a 3 years experienced person for almost the bare minimum hourly wage(that's what I saw they were willing to give in most of the werkstudent jobs).

    • @Gwarzonicus

I think there is a bit of recession now to be honest, I have been working as a werkstudent with service company myself and my boss who is German cannot find new contracts and wants to close down. This video is perfect for me!
I'm American and I recently graduated from a Software QA Engineer bootcamp, and I have a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing. I've been applying, and applying some more, to jobs like crazy in Munich and Berlin (all over, Germany, really) and I've only heard from two places. One said that I lacked sufficient German skills, which I understand, and the other one I just submitted a recruitment test for today.
Thank you for sharing some websites to check out - I hope they'll prove to be beneficial! I've only been using LinkedIn for the German market, and recently signed up for Xing, so I'm stoked to have other platforms to look at.
I know that you highlighted that if we have less than 2 years of experience it'll be SUPER difficult to find a job here, but I've got my fingers crossed that some company will take a chance on me and provide me with the opportunity to impress them.
Jen - do you possibly have any software QA engineer resources/connections that you'd like to share. I know you were/are an engineer, but maybe you've got some contacts in the QA field as well.
Thanks for making all of this great content, by the way! I'm applying for the Chancenkarte visa based on a recommendation from your other videos. Have a great day!

1:57 "currently hiring, at least they have open positions" unfortunately open position doesn't mean the company is hiring externals, or even hiring at all. There are a lot of vacancies(fake job openings), which are not/will not be filled due to different reasons:
    1. companies are just waiting for the unicorn engineer, even better if agreed to work for lower salary
    2. the job will be filled with internals, the vacancy is job for bureaucracy
    3. it's a ghost job (companies just gather CVs and data of candidates)
    4. others (I will just copy paste from wikipedia: inflating statistics about their industries, protecting the company from discrimination lawsuits, fulfilling requirements by human-resources departments, identifying potentially promising recruits for future hiring, pacifying existing employees that the company is looking for extra help, or retaining desirable employees)

Even if you easily qualify for a blue card, as I understand it, you can’t get it until you are in Germany with a job offer. And to get it you have deal with the Auslandsbehoerde which can take months to even get an appointment. So that means a company has to wait an indefinite period of time before you can start. Why would a company do that when there are other German applicants who can start tomorrow and speak the language? Even as a senior devops engineer with C1 German, I’ve been told by colleagues working in Germany that I would have a hard time getting an offer because there are lots good people looking for work. And even if I did, just the move itself would be super expensive since I wouldn’t be able to work right away. So it is possible but very difficult.

I could remember 2 or 3 years ago most of the companies were begging for a developer but nowadays a lot of layoffs are happening here, as a result, a lot of experienced software engineers are competing in the market to find a job, even with lower salary.
Most of the vacancies are not real. I have seen many vacancies for over one year, the companies just putting the vacancy them rejecting everyone.

@@simplegermany You completely overlook how mentally draining it is to deal with unprofessional interviewers, a lack of transparency and feedback from companies, and constant rejection. You unnecessarily set people's expectations too high. This will cause more harm than good.

@simplegermany Sorry. Everybody who applies for Job will do with right and positive mindset. My only suggestion to my friends or people who are outside Germany not to leave their current job and come here based on Job Seeker Visa . They will have a lot of struggles. Your video portrays wrong messages to the people without the current reality.

@@simplegermany I saw Volkswagen , Bosch, bmw, Siemens . Guys VW just closed 3 plants for the first time in Germany and now trying to fire 10000 people, you think they are still hiring? Same with others you put in list.

3 years in Germany. If you're a senior software engineer, earning in USD and having a good lifestyle, you ain't missing anything. Research the bad stuff, read about the reality of Wohnungssuche, Schulplatz, Nachbarin Karen, all the insurances and taxes etc. If you still want to come in, congratulations, you're 5 years behind on your German progress. Viel Glück!

That's totally true, but if you are not a senior and looking for an affordable place to stay in the center of Europe, Germany is a nice option with a wide job market. The main barrier is language, but you may be rewarded with German citizenship after 3-5 years. And it may be worth it before you get a nice offer somewhere else after becoming a wanted developer.
But moving to Germany as an already successful English-speaking engineer is ridiculous especially if you are not working for a German company.
