    Excellent video! I was going to upload mine, but you basically covered everything. Although I want to mention two things, (1) you do NOT need to remove your air filter and hose, you can just break open the filler bolt with it in place (20" Socket Extension will give you plenty of room to break the bolt free), (2) you should probably open the filler bolt first so the fluid flows faster from the bottom and doesn't create a vacuum effect.

    FYI, the drain plug on my '09 is on the passenger side...confused the heck out of me for a minute. Thanks for the video, the rest of the info is very helpful.

    I'm the original owner of a 2007 Ridgeline, now with 105K miles. As shown you don't have to remove the air filter box or air intake hose to reach the fill bolt, but having a skinny, long funnel makes the fluid change a snap. Honda recommends always changing the two washers (gaskets), but many DIY owners find that unnecessary. It's still good to have spares. BTW the refill capacity is 3.3 quarts, not 4.

    Thanks for taking the time to do this short video on transmission oil change. I just bought a 2007 RL and want to catch up on the maintenance. Wasn’t sure if I would have to drop the trans pan to do it. Thanks Honda for giving us a drain and refill plug! Your video was much appreciated

    Thanks Cuptain85. Very helpful. I like how you mentioned that it would "be easier" to do it on stands, instead of "being necessary", and how you specifically said, "in order to gain some room" about the air filter cover, rather than saying something like "you can't possibly do this without removing the air filter cover". That sort of attention to detail is lacking on many other videos I've seen. Probably because people don't really pay attention. ;)
    This video probably saved me $100

    Thank you for the kind words. Might I add that having the truck on stands makes the videoing process MUCH easier, also!! Glad you enjoyed the video and found it useful!

    Be sure you can loosen the filler bolt before draining the ATF; mine had been tightened without using a torque wrench and was partially rounded off; consider purchasing a replacement filler bolt before starting. You can replace the ATF using the dipstick tube but it takes a bit longer and a real skinny funnel. Regarding the replacement volume, I measured the drained volume and replaced the same. Also, if you use a long neck funnel and a long ratchet extension, no need to fiddle with the air filter housing. My Ridgeline had about 78000 miles and looked like the fluid had never been changed so I did a 3 volume exchange which I considered good insurance against premature failure.

    very good and detailed video. I will have no problem changing mine. you might have commented that the 4 quarts only replaces that which is drained. I intend to do this at 10K intervals.

    It was impossible to get a good camera angle of the work being done with the air filter box in the way. Plus when a few seconds of work provides copious amounts of space, i have found that it is more usual than not a wise investment. Good point about removing the fil plug first. An added bonus to that is that you won't have an empty transmission if you are unable to remove the fill plug or one reason or another.

    The transmission fluid drain plug moved from the driver's side to the passenger's side in '09. A drain and refill calls for 3.5 quarts, not 4. Honda recommends installing new crush washers on all drain and fill plugs once they are removed. It is also recommended to use a torque wrench to apply the proper torque to the plugs instead of guessing or getting them "tight enough". It is not necessary to remove the engine air filter cover. The fluid change can usually be performed without jacking.

    So the 2007 Honda Ridgeline does not use a transmission filter ??

    • @cuptain85

      It has one, but you have to disassemble nthe transmission to access....so it does not have a serviceable filter...

    • @cuptain85
      @cuptain85  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There wasn't any problem. Just scheduled service.
      There is, from my research, a "lifetime" filter that requires the transmission to be removed and disassembled for access.

  • @nishvut7030
    @nishvut7030 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    hello, is there any automatic transmission service for ridgeline? i heard there are special set of parts like filter, o-ring and honda genuine fluid etc all in one box? does it really exist?

    • @cuptain85
      @cuptain85  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      nishvut the filter is inside the tranny...like you would have to remove the tranny and disassemble it. I advocate for using all genuine Honda fluids. Thanks 🙂

  • @cuptain85
    @cuptain85  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Honda calls the tranny filter a "lifetime filter". It is not necessary to change it, although it is possible. The transmission is required to be removed and the case opened up. That is why I did not change the filter! I will also add that my truck had approx. 115,000 miles at the time of this first fluid change and still doesn't miss a beat!

      You need a US Gal, which is a bit under 4L however if you go to a honda dealership they sell it by quarts. Be sure to buy original honda fluids, specially for the differential and transmission.

    What's your opinion regarding 07 ridge line reliability? I have a 03 civic with 200 thou k and she's still golden. I have a opportunity to get a 07 ridge line with150 thou on it. How's the reliability and does it stack up to other Honda products?

    Don't be a dummy like me and pull the wrong drain plug. There's a plug on the other side on the bottom of the trans facing straight down. That's the transfer case fluid. I drained it and flooded my at with new atf fluid then took a 200 mile trip 😬 AT overheated and I almost ruined it
