      Its my understanding that you can't fully drain the tranny with just the drain plug. Numerous places discuss replacement of fluid 2 or 3 times to essentially totally dilute and drain the old fluid with new. Some places recommend driving as much as 100 mi between replacements vs just a few miles. Either way seems better than never changing - like myself who only recently learned of the need to replace. At 67K I hope I'll be ok.

    • @Syntheticoilprotection
      @Syntheticoilprotection  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can do one drainant fill or multiple it just depends on how clean you want the fluid personally if it was my car I would change the transmission fluid once and then come back after 500 miles and do it again if I own the Honda and then at that point if the fluid looks the way I want it then I would stick with that if it's still dark I would do a third drain and fill.

      It's always good to double check it with the lookup guide because sometimes they update the technical bulletin.

      @robertcarrillo788 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's kind of weird because my brothers Odyssey Manual calls for Z1 which the Red Cap Amsoil ATF would work. But Honda replaced the Z1 with DW-1 and the Amsoil recommendation is the blue cap fuel efficient ATF. Really weird.

      Correct they update technical bulletins all the time so sometimes they'll take the older specification and update it to the newer one and that's common for fuel efficiency and different dynamics of that nature.

    • @Syntheticoilprotection
      @Syntheticoilprotection  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most of the Hondas are a basic drain and fill there is no filter that comes out like most pan drops It's just a 3/8 drive where you can drain it and fill it for most of them also the CVT's that stands for continuously variable transmission those are a drain and fill as well. are very similar as well.
      Most of the general motors vehicles have a filter and it's always good to replace the gasket. Also Mercedes transmissions have the filter that's replaceable as well.

    You’re supposed to put nothing but Honda fluid in these transmissions

    • @Syntheticoilprotection
      @Syntheticoilprotection  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is correct You need to have the proper specification as long as it meets the Honda specification you can use any fluid however using the 100% synthetic will make a huge difference You'll have less wear less friction less heat or transmission will shift better You'll get better fuel mileage and most importantly your transmission will last exponentially longer.

    I completed the transition of my 2001 Honda Odyssey from Honda ATF-DW1 to Amsoil Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid. I did four 3.5 quart drain and fills over a five week period and now I have 90% Amsoil ATF in my transmission. Even though I was good about draining and filling with the Honda ATF-DW1 twice a year, the tranny did jerky early and late shifting. Now the shifting is smooth and solid - sometimes even brisk. The Transmission seems to slip less when I'm going 55 mph and I hardly have to press the gas peddle to keep it at 55. With Amsoil, you pay more to get better protection and a better experience. The flawed design of the 2nd Gen Odyssey transmission calls for a solution where I might need to pay more to get it to last longer.

      @Synthetic Oil Protection I found out that my regular independent mechanic uses Amsoil ATF for his customer's transmission drain and fills because it is one of the few after-market ATFs, that is not from the original auto manufacturer, yet does not create more problems than it solves. Amsoil ATF is a safe bet for my independent mechanic to use in his business.

    • @Syntheticoilprotection
      @Syntheticoilprotection  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question on certain vehicles there is a pan you can drop and then there's a filter in there with magnets some vehicles have no panda drop and you'll notice a lot of the Hondas especially the CVT transmissions are all a drain and fill.
      It just depends on the vehicle and the way it was made.
      I really like the Hondas because it's real easy to do the transmission drain and fill.

    my honda ridgeline got 26000 miles is safe to do that ? i lot people said that on this point it's better to leave as it's is that true?

    • @Syntheticoilprotection
      @Syntheticoilprotection  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I mean if you leave the transmission fluid without changing it eventually the transmission will be wrecked anyways so in my belief it's always best to change it because that way it can be cleaned and shifting better.
      If it was my personal vehicle I would change the fluid every 30,000 mi on something like this.
      It just depends on if you're towing or what type of driving conditions you're doing.
      The transmission fluid change as you'll see here is pretty simple so it's definitely worth doing and will increase your car's performance and longevity.

      Yes I have used it on many Hondas and every time it's a smoother faster shift also quieter less vibration the difference is 100% synthetic and also the modifiers are higher quality and that's what allows the friction modifiers to work better.

      @@Syntheticoilprotection How has your Ridgeline held up after switching to Amsoil? I began transitioning my 2001 Honda Odyssey to Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid. I just drained and filled 3.5 quarts. I'll do the drain and fill three more times in the next six weeks. Sometimes I have misgivings about doing this because I'm so indoctrinated about using only genuine Honda ATF. Part of this transition will include installing a transmission cooler, that I have already ordered, and installing an external in-line ATF filter, since my 2001 Odyssey has the OEM ATF filter inside the transmission.

      @@Syntheticoilprotection Thanks for the feed back on Amsoil. The main thing I am looking for with Amsoil is longevity. The second generation Odyssey transmissions don't last past 170k. My previous Odyssey transmission only made it to 128k. I'm hoping Amsoil ATF will help my Odyssey Transmission last past 250 k.

    • @Syntheticoilprotection
      @Syntheticoilprotection  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The crush washer is okay to reuse as long as you put it on the same way it came off.
      Most of the pans are all aluminum also the threads are aluminum you want to be very light most of those are going to be anywhere from 20 to 35 lb of torque.
      If you go really hard you can really damage it and strip all the threads out.

      Synthetic Oil Protection I know I took out the correct one, it’s the only 3/8 female bolt, but one thing I did notice is that it doesn’t have that magnetized end. It’s a short bolt and I checked inside to see maybe if it snapped off and is stuck in there blocking it and I didn’t see anything obstructing it. I’m thinking if I put a new magnetized drain plug on it it’ will maybe remove some metal shavings that could be stopping it from flowing. And thank you for the video and speedy response! If you have any more suggestions for me I’ll greatly appreciate.

Would the Amsoil Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid help ths Camry to shift more smooth and predicable as well as increase he life of the transmission?

    • @Syntheticoilprotection

      Yes most likely there could be something wrong with the transmission but most likely it's just the fluid is thick an oxidized so by changing the fluid it will definitely make a huge difference as long as there's nothing physically broken inside the transmission.

      @@Syntheticoilprotection The past owners seem to have been attentive with oil changes since, the car does not seem to be leaking oil or burning oil. But, I wonder if the car ever had an ATF fluid replacement, or drain and fill, since the car left the factory in 2001. The ATF is somewhat clear brown, not opaque brown, on the dipstick, and not a hint of purple. The Toyota branded Dexron III is saturated Magenta/Purple. I bought five quarts of the Toyota branded ATF. I'm going to get the Transmission and Axle Differential current with new Toyota ATF, for now. Then, over the next nine months, I'll search owner forums and owner groups, on social media, to find some solid confirmation that using third party full synthetic ATF is a right move with these Camrys. If a Toyota transmission can drive past 350k, just with using Toyota branded ATF with regular fluid replacement intervals, it’s possible that The Amsoil Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid could make the Toyota Transmission last forever. After looking at the Camry owners groups, a little bit, the owners are not aggressively seeking ATF alternatives as you would find with the Honda owners.

    Is synthetic good for high mileage. I heard it works as a detergent and will unclog seals that have worn and will start leaking

      The only time you don't want to do a flush is if you have an oil leak.

    Honda spec call for a full Synthetic Transmission Fluid that meets Z1 rating (1st generation Ridgelines 2006 ~ 2014 ) and or BW1 rated fluid (meets or exceeds 1st & all 2nd generation Ridgelines ) Ridgeline owner should read the fine print ratings on the back of any full synthetic ATF before buying it 👍

    If I’m changing my drive shaft propeller , how much quarts should I put back in ? Should I completely drain it from the pan after putting in the new drive shaft and before I fill it back up? (2010 Honda Ridgeline.

      Yes I would just do a full fluid change.
      This will give you the fluid capacities for your specific vehicle also it'll give you the products.

    Please research h the proper procedures. This isn't it...the transmission fluid at operating Temps to promote draining. The also the fluid need to be at operating Temps to get an accurate level reading. Then the whole procedure needs to be done at least 3 times.
