You've given me more help than you can imagine - my tying has improved significantly by watching and imitating your tying techniques - I just wish I had your control over the materials you use - they seem to know just where to go and what to look like,
Davie, I had just been at the bench before turning this on, and I just threw a piece of that synthetic raffia in the bin. Got it out, I got it from a shiny raffia ribbon I bought a while back, unrolled it is more crinkled but translucent. I couldn't think of how to use it as wings without it failing quickly. I used it on a few spinners and gave them out. They were well received. Now I will use it to tie some of these. Great fly, I can't use uni thread and split it. It's not my eyes, I need a bigger loop than I can get. I am no where near as sure fingered as you. I am improving and am happy with my progress. Thanks to you, and other tiers that take the time to teach. All the best to you, Sean
You're an inspiration Davie. I really am going to have to get some basic kit and have a go at tying my own flies. I don't have any illusions mind you. You have such skill you make it look easy. I know one or two who've tried and failed miserably. You make this look so satisfying. Thanks so very much. Robin.
Thanks Dave, I take one pattern at a time and try to master it, well, accomplish it. You sir have Mastered it for sure. Now to the bench to "accomplish" this one.
Hello Davie. Great looking caddis pupa mate. Where could a guy get some of that slf dubbing? The fly shop around here dont seem to carry it. Could use your help my friend. Best Regards, Ken
Hello David, you are truly an artist. Thank you for sharing and educating us amateur tyers I am particularly fascinated by your use of organza. can you share specifics? vendors, sizes, thin wire or other... thank you.
Hi Jim Doherty, I'm glad you enjoy watching the videos and that they are helping you in some way. I have attached a link to the 10mm organza ribbon that I use but it's not the company I bought mine from which unfortunately I've forgot who it was..There's many companies that sell it so I'm sure you'll find one...Many thanks again for the kind words... Wires...UTC, Extra Small and Small which I use mostly Threads...Uni-8/0, UTC 70 and Danvilles Fly Master are the ones I use on almost all my flies.. Davie I always have trouble getting fibers ESPECIALLY hackles wound up into the eye.I try to push back while winding and just run the hook in my finger.
HI Davie! Indeed really nice fly. Just curious to know how you fish with this one? Just below the surface in a dead drift? Or do you fish it above surface like a dry fly? Or upstream like a nymph? Thank you in advance and continue to send us great videos! Merry Christmas!

Hi Leo Foley, I bought many of the packets of SLF over the years so I have a good selection of colours.. Hi Everyone,
Many thanks for the kind words, it's a very easy fly to tye and worth having in your box in different sizes...
All the very best Davie
where do you get you materials?
Stunning - and SO clever. If you're missing the transparent raffia, some loosely spun trailing CDC inserted at the same stage, looks very plausible.

So interesting to see all the different textures and colors go together to make a great looking fly.

The clear raffia looks like it might make good spinner wings. Have you ever tried it for that purpose? Thanks for all your tying tips.
Harold
Hi Harold,
I've never used it for spinner flies, it may be worth a go as it certainly would look good....

HI Davie,
