I bought this same hitch for our 5th-wheel rv and we love it. 2 of my friends who are thinking of going ft rving like us, I've sent this video and I let them know I have it. It's been 2 months for us....awesome, it really performs smooth. No issues
As an Engineer and looking at this, there is NO WAY I'd ever use this hitch as a rail connected only where the middle has no support. I would only trust it using the gooseball connection setup. Downward pressure tests are cool, but have you tested it by placing pressure on the back and the front? If someone towing a trailer rear ends someone, the 5th wheel is coming toward the truck and dependent on the speed, the force applied to the rear of the hitch can be massive and the energy dissipation will either snap the ball off, but most likely the hitch welds will fail first, then ball failure. I tend to favor how German Engineers use a design philosophy to make structures as weldless and seamless as possible.

I have a 95 ford with this hitch. I pull a 30’ camper. We have had ours for three years and I love it. I pull it out and hang it on a bolt on my wall in a stud. Easy to take out and install.
Had my Anderson Hitch for two years and I Love it. Would never go back to the old greasy sloppy chunk chunk style. Blessed.

It really does work that well. I pull a 28’ (small) fifth wheel with a crew cab, short bed super duty. It literally takes 10 minutes to install/uninstall the adapter, leaving my truck bed clear for…a truck bed. It does require a gooseneck ball in the bed of the truck.
Downward weight is one thing. I want to see a horizontal pull front and back on the ball

I would like to see testing under heavy braking. Have been hearing of this system clasping under heavy braking. Don’t understand why the text is just showing pin weight limit. That much weight shifting under braking would give much easier.

I’ve heard the same, but yet to see any proof from those that talk about it. Therefore, I use it to tow my 5th wheel with absolute confidence! Until someone can show me what they’ve “heard” then I’m not interested.🤔
I had a rail mount Anderson system that had faulty welds, it came apart luckily in a rv park & also destroyed my tailgate. The pieces that went into the bed rails are the pieces that had poor welds. So beware of the rail model!

Dear Anderson Ultimate hitch company... got a question for you ...considering buying a truck with a flatbed type bed with a recessed goose neck ball ..is there any way to use your system with this set up without modifying the truck hitch ??
Yes they have a hitch specifically for this.
Downward force isn’t my concern, bad or contaminated welds and possible corrosion in and around the welds.
what is the shear strength of the ball? like you would see of you had to stop your truck and 5th wheel abruptly in traffic.
For anyone wanting to know this information, this is from Anderson Inc, customer service.: The ball is made of 7075 aluminum which has about 120,000 pounds of shear strength.
How are you going to make them to set in all vehicles of every Style make and model

What is the trick to get it to disengage to unhook. Brand new and just brought it home and will not disengage.
Will take my air hitch over this any day. Anderson is a good concept but no way the ride will match that of a 3 bag air hitch.
My question is I have a trail air pin box on my 5th wheel with a auto slide hitch I would love to get rid of the auto slide and get the hitch you have. Can I use your hitch with my pin box?

Andersen Hitches You are very welcomed. I have my WD anti-sway hitch installed an about to head out on my first trip with it. Like the fact that it is so lightweight compared to the others and is of excellent quality build. Instructions were very easy to read making the install a cinch. I really owe it all to your dealer in Pensacola, Florida that got me set up with the appropriate length shank. The guys at Carpenter's Campers were knowledgeable and helpful.
***update***
Made a 400 mile trip with it all hooked up. Made a big difference on the sway experience when a fast moving vehicle whiz by pushing me over then sucking me in on the backside. Porpoising was minimal compared to as before. Fairly quiet. I give it 5 of 5 Stars.
hello I am getting a 2016 Ram 3500 Limited with Rambox. I am getting the Jayco Eagle HT RLTS. will this set up work? I know they dont recomment fifth wheel with rambox but im convinced it will work as other have it working with other hitches etc.Can you PLEASE put my mind at rest. thanks..
If you convert a 5th wheel hitch to a gooseneck, are you not supposed to use safety chains???

As far as Safety Chains: If you plan on traveling cross country and you want to make sure you are in compliance with state laws that vary from one state to another then you should install safety chains.
We know that California, Indiana and Texas have safety chain requirements. Indiana safety chain laws are usually only enforced for commercial applications, but they informed us that if the hitch was a ball type, chains were required. Many states do not require the safety chains, which is why they are not included in the initial package (cutting out extra cost for the majority of customers).
We do sell a Safety Chain kit -part # 3230- that retails for $59.99. It includes the chains and bracket hardware necessary for installation.

Seems to be large amount of doubt about “shear” factor of the unit. I worked in steel foundry and know about downward and upward force, ie , tensile strength. But what about the forward/reverse shear factor?
why not add a gooseneck adapter to your fifthwheel ?
Apparently travel trailer frame manufacturers don't recommend using a gooseneck hitch because of the additional stress involved in that setup. Apparently it adds leverage to the frame in a bad direction. This setup keeps the connection and leverage in about the same place as a standard fifth wheel design.
Haha I love how the guy they show towing with traditional fifth wheel is pulling himself back in forth by the steering wheel making it look like its 100% worse than it really is. I tow a 53' tri-axle race trailer with a Mega Cab Dodge Ram Cummins and have never run into any back and forth motion this guy had. Did he properly secure his load, have a seizure or just act like a moran?
Hi James. My load was secure, I was not having a seizure and I am definitely not a moron! For nearly all of our testing with the Ultimate Connection we use a 44 ft RV weighing 23,900 lbs (4,450 tongue) and we make sure the load is balanced. There is a section of road near our factory with railroad tracks and some big bumps right after them. It makes for great testing. When I go over that section with other brand 5th wheel hitches I can usually count 4 or 5 'bounces' after each rise before returning to neutral. With the ultimate Connection there is only the initial bounce and then it returns to neutral. With so many variables out there, not all truck and trailer combinations have issues with bucking/chucking, but customers who have had issues with it in the past and then have switched to our system, have reported that their bucking/chucking problems are a thing of the past.
+Andersen Hitches, you totally were acting lol, when you pulled yourself back and forth by the steering wheel to act like the trailer was causing you to move. But if it was the trailer shaking you out would have also moved the truck keys.
Mike Barker hahaha I had to watch it again to see it. That's true the keys didn't move much...I noticed in my truck the keys move more than me. I couldn't help but also talk to profession haulers using the pick-up style haulers and they brought up a good point, the higher the ball or hook up to your trailer the more unstable the truck gets, especially when up or down grade. The closer your point of contact with the trailer is to your axle is the safest and most comfortable the ride. Makes since when you think about it....take a square block for example, pretty stable right...yes...so now take a rectangle set it vertical...not as stable...they all said the same thing. You will have more bucking or lifting of the front end lets say if you are pulling a heavy trailer over a speed bums or go extreme and say a curb... The higher the ball or fifth wheel from your axles are, the worse your tow will be.
So what keeps the fifth wheel to ball adapter form just swiveling around the king pin? I guess just the weight of the trailer....Kinda sketch if so....
Better yet the one that adapts on top of the goose neck...there isnt anything to keep it from turning or rotating in the bed of the truck unless I missed something

On the version that connects to the ball in the bed, where do the lateral forces transfer to? A rail setup transfers forces to the frame under the bed. This looks like it is sitting on top of the bed.

@@jrvera7955 Lateral forces cannot transfer to the ball directly under the hitch. That's why they are called 'lateral'.
Or you could just use one of those adapter kits that allows a 5th wheel to hook up to the already existing gooseneck ball In the bed...

On your crush test it was just for down pressure!! We go through woods & rivers if we drop it in a hole is it going to collapse trying to pull it out that would put more pressure on the back two legs ?
Good question Michael. While we have not done 'official' testing of 'sideways' forces, we have tested sideways pulling during on and off-road settings. Since the pyramid design is so extremely strong we are confident that you should have no problems. As of this writing we have not heard of any issues regarding sideways forces. However, as with any hitch on the market, excessive forces in any direction that exceed the weight rating can cause possible problems.
Also, that rear post started buckling at 63K. Not much of a difference, but in the interest of accuracy, I'd fix the video.
I have one and I believe in it....but this test means nothing. Downforce will never be an issue. Forwards and backward plus side to side during a crash would be the concern.

It's rated for 20000lb on rail mounts or 24000lb on a gooseneck ball with 4500lb of pin weight. It should support all double axle fifth wheels and most triple axle fifth wheels. But don't exceed the rating of your truck or currently installed hitch rating.
How strong is that pin coupler. Looks weak.

Anyone considering this hitch should know they will not work with the Tail-Air pinbox AT ALL. You have to buy a lock out kit that stops the trail-Air from moving. So Whats the point? I have a new Andersen and for that reason alone I would never recommend.
I have both. Guess which one has a lot of “bucking”??????

Looks can be very deceiving! That's why we made the crush test public. With over 8,000 units on the road today, I can tell you that it has performed better than we expected. So much so that in April of this year we announced our own $5,000,000 warranty to back it. I would NOT recommend this hitch.
I was involved in an accident last September 2020 where a minivan failed to remain stopped at a stop sign. I was traveling at about 40mph when I entered the intersection. I was operating my Chev 3500 while towing my Cyclone 3100 5th wheel. My 5th wheel was secured to my truck using the Andersen Ultimate 5th Wheel Hitch Gooseneck Mount. The hitch was purchased two years ago.
The minivan driver pulled out and struck my truck in the front right wheel. The minivan rotated and the back of the minivan struck the right front on the 5th wheel. The 5th wheel broke free and fell ontop of the truck bed and then collided into the back of my truck.
The hitch connection ball sheared off at the top of the base. The hitch base was bent and deformed. If I had been using a conventional 5th wheel pin hitch it would not have broke. The impact was not that great. Both the truck and the camper were removed by standard tow vehicles and could have been driven away, of course if the hitch was still intact. I engaged and lowered the front jacks on the camper to raise it off the truck. I then drove the truck out from under the camper so the tow could remove them.
If the hitch did not fail there would not be any damage to the back of my truck or to the bed, but as such there was. The damage caused my 2013 truck in near perfect condition (stored winters) with only 38,000 miles to be classified by the insurance as totaled.
I am so frustrated. And to compound the frustration the Andersen warranty was voided because it had been involved in an accident.
It was fortunate that the accident was not worse for me and that the camper did not roll. The cost to repair the camper was just under $8000.
I bought the Andersen Hitch because it's was very light and easy to install and remove. All I can say is buy a conventional pin hitch.

@ 2:07 you talk about loose connections on the B&W. None of those joints should be loose. The bolts holding the rails in should be tight, as are the assembly bolts. The mounting pins, My sister has that same setup. She has put 250,000 miles on it and hers are not loose. Neither she nor I have any slop in the kingpin assembly area. @2:13 you show your driver bouncing around. My 03 3500 GMC pulling my 38 footer at 16,000 doesn't ride like that. My sisters 06 Dodge 3500 pulling a 32 foot 14,000 rig doesn't do that. I'm sorry but you're exaggerating big time. You're bouncing around, but your keys barely move.
Next up, Where are your safety chains? Get caught using a gooseneck adapter in PA or Ohio, and you will be leaving your rig on the side of the road till you get safety chains.
The other issue is, your moving the hitch point back several inches. that transfers weight to the back axle and off of the front axle.
As for your crush test, mount that hitch on a 45Degree angle to simulate side loading you could experience in a crash. Lets see how well it stands up then.
I have seen too many of these hitches fold, dropping the 5th wheel onto the bed of the truck. No thank you.
I own one myself and I see a lot of them around I have never seen 1 fold up as you say .
Junk that thing will snap off in a collision for the money buy steel hitch who rates them clearly not ntsb

Still cant get over at 2:12 how the keys in the ignition dont move a bit but the guy at the wheel pulls back and forth acting like the truck is "Bouncing" while the camera guy is moving the camera not so steady...Commented on this a long time ago and one of my buddies saw it recently and laughed saying the same thing....Good try though Anderson

I would not trust a ball type hitch for towing a large 5th wheel.. use what the trailer was designed for..5th wheel..the only reason why fifth wheel hitches get loose, and noisy is because of lack of maintenance from the user/owner..5th wheel has been used by semi trucks for decades. it's a proven design.

When the original 5th Wheel Hitches were designed for RV trailers decades ago, they did not have the heavy RV's we are seeing on the road now, so to keep up, they had to constantly beef the hitches up, making them heavier and heavier. We set out to use modern technology to design a light weight hitch that could be installed or removed by any one - even a 10 year-old! Not only did we accomplish that, we also made it extremely safe and improved the maneuverability. The only negatives we seem to hear any more are from people that haven't actually tried one out yet.

mebe2k You are correct in one sense, but semis also use pintle hitches too for dollies in doubles and triples, would you use a pintle hook to tow your fifth wheel? Also Gooseneck trailers which I have towed some 40' PJ's with more weight on the deck than the largest fifth wheel campers out there I can guarantee that use a ball and I can attest to the reduced chucking with them too they are much nicer to pull heavy with so really your argument is completely baseless. Now if this system meets the specs they claim and its been tested and proven then whats the issue?
No thanks. I’ll stick with my B&W Companion; a true 5th wheel hitch that I can also install on my own. This one has too many potential failure points for me. Looks flimsy as well.
@@robbiejk9613 Your Andersen will fail and damage your truck/RV well before my Companion would. Look up all the documented Andersen hitch failures and let me know if you’re still confident in them. I’ll take my “rusting hulk” (which isn’t rusting, by the way) over the inferior Andersen any day.
