  • Came across this working Spirit memory expansion for the Amiga 500, and decided to replace the crusty battery with a new one.

They spared no expense with all the sockets. My original cheapo' RAM card had a mish-mash of brands and was almost impossible for 15year old me to repair.

I can remember that this board also broke for me. But back then it wasn't the lack of battery voltage that was to blame, but another error. If I had had a schematic I might have been able to fix the error. Do you have any idea where I could get a schematic? Many greetings.

The board design is actually pretty simple. The data lines and address lines are going to be going to the same place as an a501 release 5. So grab the a500 release 5 schematic and the last page with the schematic for the a501. That should help you.

    What about a schottky diode?

Just about any diode would work here. The voltage drop from either type is acceptable - the RTC circuit is not fussy. Factory a501 memory expansions use zener diodes for the RTC power input. Actually, I usually skip all that and use a rechargable 2032. An exapmle of this is coming soon to my channel.
