I am so much more appreciative of the instrumental take on this production after watching this.
( my favorite part is the tuba chorus. 😁)

"[B]ecause part of the reason you become an actor is to disappear." Totally get what he's saying with this, but I feel like he goes a lot deeper with it and it bothers me. I've said it before but, particularly from like 2004-5, it comes across in the interviews that he undervalues his talents and abilities a fair bit and that line just doesn't sit right because of it. Obviously don't know the guy personally, it's just an observation/impression and could be miles wrong.....just wondered if anyone else had noticed a change from the earlier talks he'd given??

In interviews that I've heard Raul do he comes across as very humble, very generous and very open to trusting those he is around. To get the most out of any performance an actor has to trust those around him. The directors and the actors play a big part in how each does their role and what that can give to an audience. That ability to trust is great and leads to great performances, but there has to be a time when you have your guard up to protect, not only yourself but those who are most important in your life. In today's society you just can't trust that what you say will come across to others the way you want it to. And also today there are way too many people that can't distinguish the actor from the man. Raul is no more Bobby than he is Jonas Nightingale or ADA Rafael Barba or any other part he has played. When I was a kid many, many years ago, I would glue myself to the TV screen, or buy the latest teen magazines looking for my favorite actors. I never dreamed that there would ever be a day that I could see them live, talk to them or get a picture with them. In today's society and technology we can do all those things. It's amazing what we can learn about our favorites. Life isn't private anymore for anyone, especially those in the high profile careers. Gosh, I can even google myself and find out things I didn't know, remember or really want others to know. I don't think Raul undervalues himself or his abilities as much as he is just a very humble person and realizes that he didn't do anything alone. I think any of us probably see ourselves less than how others see us, because we do know our own vulnerabilities and weaknesses. I'm sure there are many actors, after doing a scene, come off thinking they could have done it better. If we all saw ourselves and each other as God sees us, we would live in a much better world. I think Raul is amazing and hopefully one day I can see him live or even meet him. It's probably not likely being that I'm far from New York and not exactly financially able to go, but seeing Raul live in a show and meeting him would be on my bucketlist. In the meantime it's awesome to have twitter and youtube.

I think when Raul openly came out as bisexual in 2006 and admitted he was dating a man, his whole demeanour changed. After 2006 he's very relaxed, he's not as serious as he is in so many interviews before this. I think, he's said he struggled for years with who he should be. I think that finally becoming who he was released the stress, tension, and false pretense, it's a defense mechanism and he seems to drops all of that after 2006.

I read an article where he said a lot of people got hurt by that interview and he said more than he intended to. He says here that back then he thought reporters are your friends but they definitely aren’t. He has also said he is through apologizing and explaining who he is. And really no one should have to do that. I do think he has a lot of guilt over hurting his wife though. He has just learned to be comfortable in his own skin.
