Let's settle this once and for all, while overtaking on a solid line is illegal, because the solid line usually indicates areas where it is unsafe to overtake, sometimes you as a driver can see that it is safe and you pass in such a place. At the same time, just because overtaking is allowed (broken line) does not automatically make it safe. If the oncoming or the vehicle you were passing has to make room for you, your maneouvre was unsafe, and therefore reckless. Many will also consider it reckless if there was a very short distance or gap between you and the other vehicles, either the oncoming or the ones that you overtook. Let's try and make the roads safer. Also, when overtaking it is sensible to use full throttle rather than overtaking half heartedly, and it's also good to overtake only when you can see what's coming, not relying on the vehicle in front. If they have to cut in at the last minute they are only taking into account the space they need andnot hte space you need. Finally if you're going to cut in front of someone that is already overtaking you better be going at least 20 km/h faster than them not to go and force them to brake because you can't think for yourself and only overtook because you saw them doing it, or because you felt you should be in front of them. Seems some Kenyans are as bad as Brits and think they have to be in front of the bus. I will say on another note, if the truck were able/allowed to maintain at least 80km/h there would be less of these dangerous overtakes out of frustration. So something should be done in that respect, since it seems widening the road/converting it to a dual carriageway is not in the govt's plans.
