    Killer sound!!

    Really nice sounding L102. Although it's a spinet Hammond and people usually want a bigger console organ, it really screams.

      Yep! for some reason it really does scream. In fact more so then any of my other organs. It's funny you know ...it still has original paper/wax capacitors that usually deteriorate and change value over time, resulting in worsening the sound of the organ making it sound dull or muffled. It's interesting too that every Hammond I've owned, sound a little bit different, even the same models. Say if you had 10 Hammond B3's all in a big room, I betcha they would all have their unique characteristics, and sound a little bit different from each other.

    Hello Sean. Amazing playing..I wanted to ask if I may, what is your setup from the Hammond to the Leslie? What ohm comes out from it 8 or 16? I just bought an L112 with a project model700 which is missing a compression driver and an amp. It’s got a Beyma FD-212 600watt crossover. If you’ve got some time to write back I would be grateful! I basically wired a quarter inch out put jacks to the speaker out puts and a one wired to the Leslie switch.... I built a box.. (Dr Fishsticks Leslie Box) It is basically a Leslie connector kit for a 147 type Leslie. Instead of wiring into the organ I made it external with an on/off switch. .. It has a AC cord to power the Leslie. 2 Female Jacks on the sides ...1 is for the signal from the organ or a keyboard.... and the other is for the Leslie switch on and off. I just plug 2 regular quarter inch patch cords from the back of the organ to the Leslie box......That way I can use that box on some of my other organs to play through that Leslie.... As for a Leslies 147 and 122s I believe the speaker and the horn are 16 ohm....as for your Leslie 700 I don’t know...It seems to be a different kind of animal... like some of the Rotosonic Leslie models...I don’t have much experience with them but heard they can sound great of you can do the modifications to make them a Single Channel Leslie with Single Channel organ......I found this guys video that he explains it ...I hope this helps th-cam.com/video/wSm6kohSdYo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=M2JrTm0bMxPg_ccc

    Sounds awesome! Im going to check out an L100 tomorrow. There's also an m100 nearby. From what I can tell people reccomend the m100 over the L. But honestly I haven't heard any m100 online that sounds anywhere near as good as your L100. Even compared to some a100 in terms of rock vibes. I was just wondering if you had any advice on which I should get? I will be using it for rock. Cheers mate! :) love the videos, I've had them on repeat the last few days

      Welp...hmmm?? There are a few things to take into consideration L100 vs M100. I will say they are different... The L100 weighs less then the M100. The M100 is considered the superior organ because of it's "Vibrato Scanner" and separate Reverb tube amp. You have real chorus vibrato in the M series. The amps in the L 100 are quite different. I believe the output signal is a lot hotter then any other one of my organs so it F___ing Screams! LOL. The L100 has a different Vibrato system that was less desirable "but".. there is a benefit from this.. if you don’t really care about the authentic Chorus Vibrato...If you just turn the Corus Tab on and turn off the Vibrato Tabs it acts like a mids and high end boost so the organ is not only louder....It cuts through any mix like a knife!.... I would be careful on what L100 series you are looking at. I know that the earlier models like the L101, L102. 103 etc have a regular volume pot in the Volume pedal ... The later versions such as L 111, L 112 etc...had alterations and "Updates" they had a weird photo cell Volume pedal that can be tricky to fix it your self! Other then all that if I had to choose between The L 100 or the M 100 I personally would go for the one that works well and needs the least amount of repairs....or to be brutally honest Get them both LOL...because they are Hammonds and are AWESOME! and you'd have the best of both worlds ....I hope this helps and best of luck

      Cheers mate! You're a legend. Picked it up today it's a 101. Thanks for the extra advice too on the models. Next thing I'll be doing is getting the mod and a leslie!

      What's the box you use by the way to run the hammond to the leslie? Also is the output you've got from the 102 just using the volume pedal output. Thanks again!... also, you thinking about doing any mods to it? Cheers

      @@jaredplant5547 Congrats on you’re L101....You have the exact model that Keith Emerson used in "The Nice" and "ELP". It doesn’t get more progressive rock then that! He played it through a Marshall when I saw him....... as for the Box. I hope I can explain this... You might have to do order a few parts to build it and do a little research like I did.... I basically wired a female quarter inch out put jack to the speaker out puts... and a one female jack wired to the Leslie switch.... I built a box.. ("Dr Fishsticks Leslie Box") It is basically a Leslie connector kit for a 147 type Leslie. Instead of wiring into the organ I made it external...The Box has a female 6 pin connector jack to plug the Leslie cord into the box that goes to the Leslie... an on/off switch. .. It has a AC cord to power the Leslie. 2 Female Jacks on the sides ...1 is for the signal from the organ.... and the other is for the Leslie switch on and off. I just plug 2 regular quarter inch patch cords from the back of the organ to the Leslie box......That way I can use that box on some of my other organs to play through that Leslie. As for doing any mods. I have heard of a mod for the Vibrato Chorus that can make it sound closer to the traditional " Vibrato Scanner types found in other Hammonds....but honestly finding the time to tackle it has been a bit challenging and have lot on the go LOL... besides now I'm having second thoughts on doing anything else to it. TBO I kind of like it stalk... just the way it is..... I'll tell you the story behind it......I bought it of this little old lady. It was her husband’s that past away, quit a few years ago. When I went to pick it up. She was so happy that I could play it, and that I appreciated it so much. She told me she dusted it once a week and would clean and pledge it every so often. She took care of it. as I was packing the organ out, she stopped me, and said " I almost forgot..I have the bench cover if you want. If not, thats ok. I made this knitted cover years ago that goes on the organ bench." ....Of coarse I said I love it and took it...Seriously that almost made me cry....I feel a big obligation to take special care of this particular organ. I think I'm not going to mod or mess with it too much...It's awesome and rips just the way it is....I have taken it out a few times to gigs and every time i put that bench cover on it..LOL I've been asked " what’s up with the grandma bench cover?" I just smile and say That's personal"

      Awesome mate. Really appreciate your reply. Stoked to hear that about the version I managed to pick up!
      I've been deliberating what to do with the leslie. Unfortunately where I am they are scarce and the ones that do come up are usually with a hefty price tag. Luckily I found a 770 recently. I would be interested in hearing your thoughts. I was going to get a 147 because tube is king in my mind but my tech suggested I get solid state and use a leslie connector kit to run the leslie from the tube section in the l100. Tweak the gain stage in the organ for that break up range. Be interested in hearing your thoughts. Really I want to get as close to your sound here as possible though
      I totally understand what you mean as well. I also bought mine off a very nice elderly woman who wanted to pass it on to someone who would use it before she passes. (She was a afraid it might end up on the street). I know what you mean about protecting the legacy of the instruments previous owners. Something very cool about that
      Thanks for that explanation on the fisthicks box type thing you made. Unfortunately I'm not sure i have the skills to build it. But if the leslie connector kit my tech suggested works with getting the tube sound out of the l100 I'll probably go with that. Look forward to hearing your thoughts. Thanks again

    @seangrieve8181 I got a L 122 in a garage sale. It's in very good shape, all original, tonewheel is ok but the sound is very low and faint. I replaced some tubes and cleaned the RCA inputs and connectors, but still the same problem... The volume/expression pedal makes no effect and the pedal drawbar makes a hum (constant note) when pushed. Any tips on why the sound is so weak?

    • @connor_flanigan
      @connor_flanigan ปีที่แล้ว +2

      that model has a potentiometer in the volume pedal. I'd check that first - the wires going to and fro.

    • @Bolation
      @Bolation ปีที่แล้ว

      @@connor_flanigan Thanks! Didn't know of that potentiometer. I'll definitely check that out 👍👍

    • @seangrieve8181
      @seangrieve8181  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah...I agree with @connor_flaniga's comment. I would start with checking the volume pedal...If I remember correctly ....you have to loosen some nuts or bolts on the sides of the pedal, from the front of the organ.Then take out the reverb tank to get at and remove a black cover from the back side, then It should slide out. Check the connections for sure. My L 102 had a really scratchy/dirty potentiometer when I got it. It probably won’t hurt to blast the potentiometer with some contact cleaner/ DeoxIT since your taking it out anyway... as for the hum in the pedal drawbar?? Is it like a AC or ground hum...or like a bass pedal stuck on hum?

    • @Bolation
      @Bolation ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@seangrieve8181 Thanks! I'll begin with the expression pedal and I hope that's what causing the low volume. I was afraid it's some random capacitor that I could not identify... I read in some forum that old paper capacitors in the amp may cause this. Did you have the same issue before cleaning/changing the pot? As for the pedal drawbar, no, it's not an AC/ground hum. It sounds exactly like a bass pedal stuck (definitely a note).

    • @seangrieve8181
      @seangrieve8181  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Bolation No I didn’t have the volume problem. I just had a really dirty potentiometer. Every time I'd pump the volume pedal it would sound scratchy and would pop and snap..I didn’t replace it, I just sprayed a lot of contact cleaner and worked it back an forth until the noise went away... In your case It sounds like maybe the mechanism is faulty and isn’t turning the the little gear on the potentiometer. If the signal is weak but there is no fluctuation in volume this might be the case...also just check all the wires and connections to make sure nothing is loose. As for the bass pedals sounds like one of the springs might be "detached" or something is lodged or caught between the bass pedal and the contact. There is a spring for each bass pedal. When you press down a bass note/pedal the spring raises the pedal back up. You might have to lay down or tilt it somehow to get under the organ to get access. This might be a crappy task. First I would just press down each bass pedal one at a time to fined out witch one is causing the issue ...or if this is even the case... Remember It might be time consuming but an organ can always be fixed up ..best of luck buddy. You got this!💪
