    I've must of watched this video now like 7 times..I am really trying to figure all this out and eat right. Been 6 weeks now, losted 30+ pounds, bmi of 44 to 34.       Hey bettina, my next video of part 2 explains it but basically just adjust once you've stalled for about 2-4 weeks. Give it some time. Average out your weekly weigh ins and take measurements. When it looks like you've stalled, drop calories by 200-300 give or take and or up cardio.

    I use “Lose It”, which is a calorie tracker. I’m a free member, so I haven’t subscribed to the app, but I love the amount of functions it has as a free member. It has this pie chart, which shows macronutrients, but as much as I want to... I don’t really understand it. Some people talk about macros and calories as if tracking them both are two different concepts, which I’m sure it is, however I’m just not entirely sure what that means. I hope watching this, helps 💖💖💖

    Brendan, I'm just going to throw something out there to you and I hope that if you have time, you'll look into it. You said that if a woman wanted to find her maintenance calories then she would need to multiply her weight by either 14 (the lower end of the 14-16 range). But if an overweight woman were to do that, she would be eating wayyyyy over her maintenance, For instance, say a woman is 215 lbs......215 X 14 = 3014! I guarantee you that if that 215 lb woman ate 3014 calories per day she would be only gaining bodyfat-not maintaining it because that's a lot!
    So maybe women need to multiply the weight of their LEAN MUSLE MASS by 14 instead. So going back to that woman who is 215 lbs. Let's say that she's 39% body fat - which means that she has 85.83 lbs of fat on her and her lean muscle mass is 131.15 lbs. Now if you multiply 131.15 (her lean muscle mass) by 14, you'd get 1836.1 cal-which sounds more like her maintenance than 3014 cal does! Also, if you were to subtract 500 from 1836.10 then her target deficit calories would be 1336 - which also sounds reasonable for weight loss than her eating 2514 cal a day (3014 - 500) and expecting to lose weight! So if you would, please look into that because we wouldn't want women to end up over eating because they're counting their fat in the equation! Thanks!

      Thank you for this! I am over weight and my calculations were coming up way higher than my intake at the moment. If I followed that formula I would def be gaining weight! Your way makes more sense

      MakeWayForCJ this video wasn't aimed at extremely overweight people and I can't remember if I included that part of my rambling into the video. I was REALLY bad at making videos early on lol so I'd ramble like crazy and have to cut out so much. I didn't even talk like myself 😂 anyway I should update this video because you bring up a fair point however here's what I would say in response to that. 1. If you're extremely overweight (27ish% body fat or higher for females/23ish% or higher for males) you shouldn't be counting macros. Losing weight at that level is extremely easy and after learning to work with clients pragmatically I find counting macros at that point in a fat loss journey overkill for no reason. You can simply give them a decently hard training program and have them do cardio while slightly modifying their nutritional habits and get them to more average body fat levels. 2. The problem with using lean mass with anyone who needs to watch a video on how to calculate macros is accuracy of estimating body fat percentage. Unless they have a way to get dexa scanned or dunked it may lead to a lot of complications. In a perfect world we would have a certified caliper specialist give them a decently rough estimate but most trainers suck and it wouldn't account for the obese anyway since visceral fat becomes a large issue. The aim of this video was to appeal towards the masses of those who are at the point in their journey where they want to fine tune their nutrition and don't know how to start counting macros. Also a HUGE point I failed to make explicitly clear here is it doesn't really matter how you find them, the trick is adjusting them! There isn't a single calculation out there that works for me for instance, everyone I've tried I end up getting extremely low levels compared to my arbitrarily active metabolism. I maintain on 4500 calories without cardio. So as you can see there are many issues with any calculation, not just body fat. That's why I really don't care for calculations. The best way is to just start tracking and adjust as needed. I just failed to make that point really clear because I sucked at TH-cam back then 😂. Anyway you raise some fair points. I'm going to try and sticky this response above for those wondering. I'll make a new video soon.

      I don’t think you mentioned that part in the video but it makes sense that you wouldn’t since you were new to TH-cam. If it’s any consolation, you weren’t awful in this video and you've definitely improved since then!
      Also, good point about the dangers of using lean muscle mass. I know my lean muscle mass but that's only because I have access to a DEXA but I need to remember that not everyone has one readily available to them so *Duh* excuse me on that one!
      Not counting macros when fat content is high is an interesting concept. I've never heard anyone say that before. You also said that when a person has such a high body fat content then “Losing weight at that level is extremely easy at that point". When you said that, did you mean that for both men AND women? I ask because it seems that even with having a lot of fat, women can sometimes face down situations where fat wants to hang on to us for dear life! LOL! I guess the best take away is that we should all learn how to adjust them…and I guess knowing WHEN to adjust them is important too - mainly because it’s pretty easy to get impatient with the whole process.

    Lovely video Brendan, thank you for sharing your knowledge on this, super helpful, just have one question... Could you share why do you calculate the fat and protein out of 3000 cals but the carbs out of 2500?

    So after watching, I still had a couple of questions. Can you help me please? Going off of Henry's Macros...you said he was at 60 grams of Fat, 60 grams of protein & 290 grams of carbs. Is that correct? 290 grams of carbs seems like a lot. And if so, is that what Henry would eat at every meal or is that his total intake for the day? Also, is he to burn 500 cals a day as well?
