Brian Shaw has 4 separate training days.
On Monday he trains his squat and performs different accessory exercises for his lower body.
On Tuesday he trains the overhead press and performs different accessory exercises for his shoulders, chest and triceps.
On Thursday he trains the deadlift and performs different upper back accessory exercises.
Finally on Saturday Brian Shaw trains the strongman events such as the super yolk, log press and atlas stones. This is Brian’s most important training day
Brain Shaw uses the spider bar and the cambered squat bar for similar reasons: they are easier on his shoulders and help him strengthen his upper and lower back

That was so interesting to watch them warm up. It’s such a technical lift, more like an Oly lift. Maxime almost looked uncomfortable at the really low weights and then seemed to hit a groove. Brian looked good early, seemed to hit a wall, and then figured it out and finished nicely (can’t believe he was able to press out the last one). Sam looked the best early on, just started to struggle once the weight really got up there. It was also interesting to see their differences in body structure and how they pressed. Sam (obviously smaller and more mobile in the shoulders) had a much more narrow grip and pressed it more vertically. Maxime and especially Brian were so much wider and it was almost like their arms are pushing “out wide” as much as vertically. I wonder how that changes it athlete to athlete?

    • @Aaronsolnelson

@@bobdole7292 what brian is doing is typically called a push press but its a behind the neck push press. A jerk is when you bend your knees before the push and then when the bar is on its way up you bend your knees again to get under the bar and catch it with straight arms and bent knees so you can then just straighten your legs which is easier so people do it to lift more weight overhead sorry if I over explained that

honestly I wouldn't train behind the neck presses if it wasn't a competition lift. My mobility is just not good enough so the risk to injure my rotator cuff would be way to high. Don't really see the benefit of behind the neck presses vs normal strict presses

Turned into a big ol bodybuilding sesh at the end there. What other sport has competitors training together weeks before a big comp? If Strongman blows up one day, I hope the money doesn't change this part of it.

It’s interesting that the weaker pressers are doing very well because they’re used to using their legs as the driving force where as the stronger strict pressers I think are struggling because they’ve been able to muscle it through.
We’ll see at wsm what happens.
I’m gunning for the pair of you to do well
